Tobe BryantParticipantI’m gonna get negs, but I must speak the truth! The length that everyone drools over in LA is vastly OVERRATED, especially without legit perimeter threats and a solid PG! Kupchack needs to see the league is being taken over by youth, athleticism, and explosion by the backcourt. Pounding the rock inside seems to be what they need to do, but that doesn’t help if you can’t convert and teams are fast breaking on LA, like last night with Miami, against Portland, Denver, the Clippers. Shooters and slashers help out bigmen by creating rebounding opportunity and weakside second chance scoring. They also make the opposition reluctant to double bigs and have single coverages on them.
Scratching the triangle really makes things a little slow as well.

delfamParticipantso those two titles the Lakers won were for no reason then? Length isn’t that important during the regular season but in the playoffs when defense picks up you need easy baskets. When your shots not falling you need to be able to throw it instead and get easy points.
You might be right for the regular season but the playoffs are a differenet thing.

JoeWolf1Your point seems to be different from the title of your post. I agree, the Lakers need to make a move if they want to compete at a higher level in the playoffs this year.
Length is not overrated though, it makes a big difference. What you’re playing at a high level, any little advantage is a plus.

Tobe BryantParticipantI should be specific and say the lack PF agressive guard play or perimeter scoring outside of Kobe keeps the Lakers at low energy and won’t compete at a high level.

TallmanNYCParticipantUmm, look at all the recent champions and tell me about how length isn’t important in the NBA. Yes, the Lakers are appallingly slow on the perimeter. It is bizarre that Derek Fisher starts or frankly still has a job in the NBA. The Lakers could replace him with most of the D-leagues Guards and I suspect it would be an improvement. But having legit post precense is still very important.
Great statement game last night by the way. Lebron’s run down block was rediculous! But most importantly Lebron was saying "I don’t care about your 40-point games Kobe, even sick I’m better than you."
