valentinetrade ,trade, trade is all you hear?
no one digs into LeBron contract 2 year deal made so he can get more money after 2 years with a new tv deal and a opt out clause after 1 year.
we all doubt LeBron is leaving after one year but nobody talks about him opting out. It has to be a reason he put the opt out clause in the deal it has to if hes not leaving then why did he put it in is the question ?
Lebron has planned in calculated this move very hard up until he wrote his essay weeks ago.
I think he stays in cle but opts out next summer to land a marquee free agents Marc Gasol, Love, etc or maybe even two if they move some of their younger player
moving bennet, tristan haywood ,and some non guarantee contracts moves them into the 15 million area andy v’s expiring contracts moves them into 24 million leborn opting out clears another 20 million so that’s 44 million atleast in cap room that’s another 2 max players.
this is not 2k ish or fantasy we have to sit down and think why did leborn put a 1 year opt out clause in ? this makes the most sense TO IMPROVE THE TEAM NOT LEAVE AGAIN!
love would LOVE it here and marc would fit in blatts systems well the cavs will be able to offer them both 18-20 million each and still be able to fill out the team. they don’t have to get marc it will be very hard to attain him hes loves Memphis but he also wants to win and can Memphis offer him as much and be ok with their future structure? if not marc someone else.
they will go after love. with all this money you wonder how can they sign LeBron back? heres how
3)
Non-Qualifying Veteran Free Agent (“Non-Bird”) Exception. A team may re-sign its own free agent who is neither a “Bird” nor an “Early Bird” player to a first-year salary of up to the greater of (a) 120% of the player’s salary in the last season of his prior contract, (b) 120% of the player’s applicable minimum salary for the current season, or (c) if the player is a Restricted Free Agent, his Qualifying Offer amount.
they would be able to sign LeBron back if the above is correct. they would be able to sign LeBron back.
what do you think the opt out clause is for we know he cant leave anytime soon that would be a huge blow to his career why come back to leave the next year in his essay he made it seem he wanted to end his career here and he knows its going to be hard but hes willing.
I think he will opt out next summer so they can corner the free agency market and keep wiggins, dion, and the picks. its a power move by LeBron and the cavs and with being with the same team two years in a row he can get that max deal he wants under the new tv deal.

TyroberParticipantLeBron opting out would still cause a cap hold. They wouldn’t have that space available unless they renounced his rights and if they did that they wouldn’t be able to go over the cap to sign him if they used that space on other guys. They would be left with exceptions and LeBron wants his max contract so that isn’t possible. I haven’t looked at the Cavs salaries to see exactly how much they could have, but Irvings max salary kicks in next year as well so that’s something to think about too.

ChewyParticipantplently of one year deals. It gave him the power to say who the Bulls kept and who they traded away. Lebron wants that same kind of power and with his ability to bring in free agents, I can’t blame the Cavs for following him.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Cavs should stay with what they have, or sign another cheap guy or two.
Next summer, go after Love and Marc Gasol. Play one guy off the other to get Kevin Love cheaper, or just get Marc Gasol who would fit PERFECTLY.
Trade their pick and the Heat pick to move up in the draft. Trade their second round pick for cash.

TallmanNYCParticipantIn 2016, when the league renegotiates its national TV packages, the league will probably make a billion more per year. Assuming the CBA still splits that revenue 50/50 with player salary, all of the team’s salary caps will go up by about $20 million per year (ticker prices and other revenue keeps growing as well), maybe more if the league keeps getting more popular.
At that point many teams will have cap room including, likely, the Cavs.
Lebron wants an opt out so that he can resign for the higher max salaries available under those higher salary caps. But even if he resigns for the max available, there should still be room for two more max guys on the team. Especialy if the Cavs aren’t cheap and are willing to go into luxury tax levels which will start about at $100 million level.

HitsterParticipantI don’t see anything sinister in LeBron having a player’s option for next summer. If we assume he opts in and then gets a new deal in 2016, as I read the current CBA, he’d be entitled in a certain percentage of the salary cap as his salary depending on his length of time in the league. This is what he is looking at in effect in 2016.
He would not just get the 7.5% yearly rise on a 5 year deal with his existing team, if this was the case he’d opt out next summer and sign a 5 year $120 odd million deal with the Cavs there and then.
Can someone confirm if I’m interpreting the cap rules right?
