LeBron's athletic decline

LeBron's game is in disarray right now. He can't shoot. Can't drive. Even when he does drive, by no means does he have the explosiveness to finish with contact. He blew layup after layup today. His entire game is completely dependent on easy baskets. Orlando was turning the ball over left and right in the 2nd qtr and that's where he did his damage. They took care of the ball in the 2nd half and LeBron disappeared.

The toughest thing to watch is how much of a spectator LeBron tends to be during large portions of the game. He's FULLY AWARE of his shortcomings, so he just stands there and hopes somebody else has it going. This was the most ball dominant non-PG in the NBA from 05-10. Always looking to create. Always looking to make things happen. And now, if the opposition isn't turning it over, he just stands in the corner....hoping somebody else makes the shot or something easy comes his way. It's just sad to watch. He's so, so limited.

He's not even as good last season and overall, 11-12 would barely make my Top 5 seasons of his. 10>09>08>11>12.

This is off subject, but

This is off subject, but Dwight attempted *and* missed more free-throws than Miami's entire team.

This was LeBron's worst game of the season. Only 5 points in the second half. Inefficient game. 6 turnovers. Still almost pulled off a triple double.

I don't think Lebron has

I don't think Lebron has declined that much as an athlete, but I do think he's put on a little too much weight. If you watch him he can still get up ridiculously high and he is still one of the fastest players in the open court. But, he is carrying too much bulk to be as nimble as he used to. He isn't light on his feet any more and that makes it harder for him to penetrate in isolation situations.

That being said, he is still an elite athlete and is having an amazing season for one of the best teams in the NBA and is the frontrunner for MVP.

LEBRON HATE

LBJ is having his best season yo, hes shooting 55% from the field and just dominating most of his games...this was his worst game of the season, and he still almost had a triple double, this is no more than a bad game.

i agree with imyourfather,

i agree with imyourfather, its pretty clear after you watch some clips of his cavs days and his heat days that lebrons style of play has changed as hes bulked up. in the Cav years, he played a quicker and penetrating game in the half court but nowadays, he plays more around his jumpshot. Ofc hes still one of the best finishers but i wouldnt call him one of the best penetrators anymore. He used to be so much quicker but even now hes the best player in the league so i guess he just refined his game. On the other hand though he can't penetrate as well anymore which i think was one of the key things in his finals collapse, dwade didn't do well against dallas zone d bc he was a good shooter but bc he was quick enough to penetrate into the zone but Lebron couldn't do it and his shot wasn't right either. so i guess hes turned more from a sf/pg to a sf/pf

ummm...okay

Have to disagree as well.

(1) Might be his best season...MVP at the moment for sure.

(2) Had a bad game tonight for his standards...yet...still put up 19pts, 11reb, 8ast...Pretty GOOD bad night

(3) Losing his athleticism???...wasn't it like last month when he did this....

(4) SHEKIRU BOOM has the TOUGHEST avatar on NBA draft.net...that dude is SCARY!!!

Tomorrow is when John Lucas

Tomorrow is when John Lucas III gets payback and dunks over LeBron lol kidding but I think LeBron is having his best year so far. Definitely agree on the weight comment, it would benefit him to lose 5 maybe 10..

Not a fan of his but I will still admit he's MVP at this point and is having one of the best individual season ever!

I don't agree with Lebron

I don't agree with Lebron James losing his athletic ability now. He's not even thirty.

That being said, I feel when he does he'll spend more time playing PF. He's already spending less time on the perimeter shooting 3's and it's resulted in the highest rebound average in his career. With his passing ability, he'd be a great high post offensive option later in his career when his athleticism has declined...But I'm talking like 34 or 35 year old Lebron....Not now.

Another one game wonder judging

Wizard,

You have been on this campaign for a while. I have no idea how if you analytically judge LeBron James this season you do not think he is either better than or as good as he has ever been, regardless of athleticism. He is shooting 54.6% from the field. That is bananas.

Kobe Bryant had his most monstrous individual season in 2006 at the age of 27 and shot 45%. He was still incredibly impressive and on a team of nobodies, but my point is that LeBron shooting this percentage is excellent. Michael Jordan also won his first championship at 27, shooting 53.9% (while taking a larger load of the offense than LeBron). Seems like LeBron is not doing too badly this year.

At the halfway mark, Miami is 4 games ahead of where they would end up finishing last season. They are in the running for the best record in the league and LeBron is playing incredibly efficient offense and fantastic defense. In this rigorous, shortened season he does not have to have the ball in his hands all of the time.

You may have found it more fun to watch LeBron when it was he against the world, but he is more effective now and in a much better position to win. Your argument seems to be "reasons for LeBron's destruction", but he still seems to be playing basketball really well and managing to be as effective as ever. Saying LeBron is limited at this point in time may be your opinion, but he certainly seems to be having a season that dwarfs that of any other player in the league, on both sides of the ball.

So, keep on with this campaign and if LeBron "breaks down again," maybe more people will jump on the band wagon. Still, there is a lot more season and Miami is in a much better position than they were last year. I would say watch more Heat games, because LeBron has on the whole been playing fantastic basketball this season and if you wait for every bad game he has, you tend to have a bunch of really good ones in front of it to completely disprove your points.

It is also called learning to

It is also called learning to pick and choose your spots. It is a long season and Lebron has very little to prove during it. The Heat are so stacked they are guaranteed a top seed in the East, even without playing 100% every night. There is no advantage to winning every game during the regular season and then coming into the playoffs tired and hurt. Lebron knows that only injury can really stop him, so it is smart to be a little careful how many times in a game he puts himself 40 inches off the floor. That is a long way to fall if someone takes out your legs. So you can't do that on every play and still hope to have a 15 year career.

He can still put his head above the rim, we have the video, paradigm posted it. He is 6' 8", so the 10' rim is 38" above his head. I don't know how high Lebron used to jump, but he can clearly still jump crazy high; especially for a guy who is well over 250.

He's shooting 55% over the

He's shooting 55% over the season scoring almost 30ppg. Those are MJ numbers. I don't think many Swingmen in the history of the game had seasons like this. Kobe (one of the best offensive players ever) averages 45% over his career. Like seriously..

How can

How can quite possibly the most versatile player of all time who can easily, easily play four positions on offense and defense be so, so limited?
