JaeEvolutionParticipantI think Lebron is more athletic, he could honestly suit up for an NFL team next week and play for them because he is so big, strong and fast.

Malik-UniversalParticipanti was watching the vikes game against detroit in week 3, and one of the announcers said calvin has a 44 inch verticle which is insane!!

BasterdInABasketParticipantI immediately thought it would be Lebron but…
Calvin Johnson 6’5 240, 4.33 40 yd dash, 10.23 100 yd dash, 11 foot broad jump, 43 inch vertical
Id either have to see Lebron on a football field or Calvin Johnson play basketball. Johnson probably has him in those last four but James has about 3 inches and 20 lbs maybe on Johnson

aamir543ParticipantI think James has more like 35 pounds on Johnson, they say he weighed in at 274 at training camp last fall.
As far as pure athleticism, Johnson, because he hasn’t gone eight 82 game seasons going up time after time after time.
I am not trying to say that Football players don’t take physical punishment, cause they do, but I think Johnson has round about 115-120 games since high school while James has played more than 600.
I know this isn’t fair, but you’d have to think that not playing in the playoffs a lot, and not jumping repeatedly plus not bulking up like a body builder is why Johnson is more athletic, but that doesn’t take anything away from James.
Plus, on Wikipedia, it says that Johnson had a 44.5 inch vertical at the 07 combine. Boy got hops!

IndianaBasketballParticipantIF you were to compare James and Johnson side by side, James wouldn’t look 35 pounds heavier. Johnson actually looks bigger bulk wise to me.
I think that’s what makes James such a unique athlete… He carries his weight right. On paper, you’d think he was built like Karl Malone, but then when you see him… He looks lean, yet bulked up in the right areas.
Both are freaks… Physical marvels, but James came into a league full of grown men as a 6′ 8" 240 pound (with no collegiate or NBA level weight training yet) 18 year old… And he was the best athlete in the league from day one. That man is blessed.

PlatParticipantIt’s pretty close and both are physical specimen, the only way to really tell for sure is if Lebron played some football and Megatron play some hoops, and proceet to go through the "eye test". On paper, Johnson has out of this world combine numbers but we all know how athletic Lebron is, but then again Johnson is wearing 20 lbs of equipment on him too.

TRC1991Participanttough one. ill take lebron, i can see him being an outstanding NFL wide receiver with his awareness, athletic play-making ability, and confidence… megatron is a boss though

mikeyvthedonParticipantThey are the two freakiest athletes/physical specimens at their respective position. Megatron has taken a step to possibly becoming the most dominant receiver in the NFL with his ability to take down jump balls. 8 TD’s through 4 games is just ridiculous, the guy is I believe the most dangerous redzone receiver in the game. Still, I think that most people hit it right on the head when they say that LeBron is more than likely the better athlete.
It is kind of crazy, I mean, their are a lot of basketball players who could possibly turn into great football players, and I know a lot of football guys can hoop. But, I think that LeBron would have the ability to dominate either sport. His agility for a person his size is out of control. Much like Indiana was saying, he carries his weight well. Could people not see LeBron possibly being just as dangerous, if not more so, than Antonio Gates?
It really is a different type of athleticism to play both sports. It is difficult to quantify and the vertical jump plus the running ability of WR’s in the NFL seem to be out of this world even compared to super athletic NBA counterparts. Nonetheless, LeBron James, for whatever he runs or jumps, seems to be an athletic marvel on any level. I would have a hard time seeing Megatron moving over and dominating on the basketball court, while I could indeed see LeBron probably being a high level football player. I guess from that angle, I find LeBron to more than likely be the better athlete.
It is very hard to quantify and it is something I have been thinking about lately. For instance, the Ducks signed a TE/DE named TJ Daniel yesterday, and I saw video of him as a basketball and football player. He is 6’7 and 226, plus over the summer he was tested as having a 4.78 40 and a 30 inch vert, which is excellent for a player of his size and position. Remember, Jeremy Shockey claimed that LeBron could only run a 4.9 40, which would be a tad slow, but I tend to think 40’s are not the end all be all of judging ones speed.
Daniel plays for Bishop O’Dowd, the same school as top HS basketball recruit Brandon Ashley. Now, I realize that TJ is not the athletic freak that Megatron is, he is not even a WR. But, I kind of believe that it would be very interesting to see Ashley, who is roughly the same size as Daniel, though much more fluid and agile, on the football field. It would be very interesting to see, and while I realize their is a lot going into playing receiver beyond raw athleticism, the same can be applied to basketball. Well, hope this at least maybe gives a different way of looking at things beyond the general combine numbers that are usually given to exclaim how athletic one truly is.
Ashley is #23 and Daniel is #4 when they are wearing white and #34 when they are wearing black.

sahrgobucksParticipantLebron James. Both freak athletes. But Lebron could dominate in the NFL and i doubt Megatron could do the same in the NBA.

mikeyvthedonParticipantYeah, I knew Brandon went to Findlay, should have said something about that. Just saw this video from last year. Do you ball as well? Well, I am hyped that TJ decided to sign with the Ducks! I know he plays TE and DE for you guys, but it seems like he is likely going to be on defense for us. We like our DE’s to be tall and fast, our current rush DE is a 6’7 and 230 pound converted TE named Dion Jordan. Dion did not seem to have as much muscle as TJ at the same stage, plus he came in to play offense, but he converted to defense just last year and it has been quite successful. I heard Dion used to play ball as well. Would love to know any info you have on him as a football or basketball player, not to mention anything on other possible NCAA prospects from Bishop O’Dowd. Happy that we have a future Duck from your school!

esperanzafleet69Participantaamir543 i guarentee you that calvin has gained more weight just as lebron has… and as for punishment of playing an 82 game season, heres what calvin did for his second TD against the cowboys… much more punishment than lebron would see all year… but still, lebron is the better athlete.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubwV-KGIiTM touchdown at 3:25 in… slammed down.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantAnybody remember Matt Jones? 6-6, 240 lbs with a 4.37 40 and a 39.5 inch vertical. He was an incredible QB at Arkansas (would end up being taken in the first round of the NFL draft after being an All-SEC selection) and averaged 22 MPG, 5 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 1.4 SPG on the Razorbacks basketball team as well. One of the best athletes I’ve ever seen even though white guys usually get the "not athletic" label. Too bad substance abuse ruined his career.

aamir543ParticipantJust our of curiosity, has anyone ever seen an Indian guy with hops? Cause I know I don’t have any.

PlatParticipantTheres some indian dudes with hops where I live and play at, defintely not NBA level hops but they can jump nonetheless

M-DYMESParticipantAgain aamir, smh smh. Let the damn race crap go man. I know its not a bad comment, but it seems every other post has some racial implications with you.
