he is the best player in the

he is the best player in the world per 46 minutes. kobe is top 5 but the best in the last 2 minutes. thats always been my argument. because i dont think lebron is in the top 5 closers in the game.

point is lebron is close but im still taking kobe until he proves to me he cant win anymore.

No he did not. Gasol was a

No he did not. Gasol was a legit player before he went to the Lakers. He had all the tools to be a star. He was a all star I believe. He was a top 15 guy then some players ( Garnett, Iverson, Duncan, etc) either got older or left the game. Gasol moved up

Kobe DID NOT help Gasol at all.

Check Gasol's stats before

Check Gasol's stats before Kobe not much difference except rebounding ppl faked on Gasol just because he played for memphis and he still led that squad to the playoffs three times. Considering his second options either were James posey or mike miller, yeah Gasol was nice way before he played with Kobe that was just his first time playing with actual talent when he joined the lakers

ya gasol was good before he

ya gasol was good before he went to la, he became top 10 playing along side kobe. and lebron makes his team better by creating open shots but kobe is just as good at it(he draws alot of double teams) and i think his leadership brings that team together way more than lebron brought the cavs together. its not a bad thing to be number 2 in the world. and if the heat win this year i think it will be enough for many people to say lebron is the best despite he will being doing it with 2 top 10 players. its all really an opinion because it is really close, and in my opinion kobe is slightly better.

Lebron is the most gifted

Lebron is the most gifted basketball player in the world definitely. Just by hearing about his physical abilities you assume that he is great and then once you see his feel for and knowledge of the game its impossible to argue that he has the most gifts. gifts = talent. most talented player in the league = lebron james

What you make of your gifts is a totally different eqaution though

Kobe has taken his already amazing skill set and improved bits of his game each and every year he has been in the league. he keeps himself in top running shape and has brett favre like durability. Although kobes athleticism is starting to decline and it was never at the same level as lebrons anyway he has still has the edge in greatness because of his unrivaled competitive nature and his refusing to lose. Kobe is on a level with with only a handful of athletes ever when it comes to competitiveness and that is what sets him above lebron.

Lebron- Stats, accolades, and highlights. all great in their own right

Kobe- Championships. speak for themselves.

I hate the championships

I hate the championships argument because even for great players like Jordan he still needed Pippen and Phil for every championship he's won. Same thing with Kobe there is a reason he basically begged Phil to come back because he knew he couldn't win without him. Kobe would not have won his championships without shaq and Gasol. In the NBA one player can seriously change the dynamic of a team, but in the end the better TEAM always wins.

Call me out on it, but I bet you if the heat's big three are healthy throughout the season they will be holding the championship trophy this year.

Kobe did help Gasol and so

Kobe did help Gasol and so did Phil Jackson...they help anyone who plays for them, but Gasol was an allstar calibur player before ever suiting up with the Lakers.

As for Lebron this is the year he should take the crown from Kobe without a doubt, but wether or not his maturity and leadership will ever be as good as Kobes is to be questioned.

So wait, because LeBron has

So wait, because LeBron has not won a title, he's seen as " He's a stats guy" but Kobe won with 2 players ( Gasol is top 10 and there's only one Odom in the NBA) that LBJ would DIE to play with and yet: People killed him for going to Miami?

Stop. You give LeBron a Gasol ( Hell, give him Amare Stoudemire or a Zach Randolph) they win a title.

its possible that lebron

its possible that lebron could have won with gasol but i also think kobe could have won with the cavs team this year. whats wrong with saying lebron may be slightly less of a player than kobe. its not a knock on lebron at all. i just think kobe has maximized his game whereas lebron has relied on his athleticism more and has been less than stellar at certain aspects of his game.

Lebron is better in some way.

Question. If the Heat offered L.A. Lebron straight up for Kobe, how fast does L.A. accept that offer? I say immediately and they are faxing over their signature before they even hang up the phone.

But maybe you argue that is only because Lebron is several years younger than Kobe.

I don't think so.

I don't think so. Williams-Kobe-Moon-Jamison-Shaq? That team would not have won a title. I think they probably got past Boston but not Orlando IMO.

LeBron would have won 70 games with Gasol. He won 61 and 66 with Mo Williams as his #2.

They most definitely would

They most definitely would not have gotten past the Celtics with Kobe, he did worse overall against the Celtics than Lebron or Wade and he was the only one with 2nd and 3rd options in Gasol and Artest. Who else did Lebron or wade have that actually stepped up for them? When Durant has bad games he had Westbrook who stepped up for stretches against the Lakers, neither Lebron or Wade had that last year.

LeBron

So Malone isnt top 5 or 6 ALL-TIME because he had the misfortune of playing in the Jordan Era? Same goes for a lot of all-time greats.

You put LeBron on that Lakers team and they probably crush that 96 Bulls team record.

I do not care what anyone says, that Cleveland team SUCKED. Mo Williams? Delonte? Hickson?

think about it rationally the Cavs were great because they made wide open shots until it counted. Lebron averaged something like 43 points against Orlando that year they were eliminated and something ridiculous against the Celtics this past season.

Kobe went 6 for 24 in Game SEVEN in the Finals and the Lakers were so strong they still won. What do you think happens if Lebron goes 6 for 24. They lose 10 out of 10 times. The Heat will win a couple of championships, Lebron has probably the BEST sidekick since Kobe was one to Shaq. They also have a 20 and 10 3rd option.

If Mike Miller and Eddie House can hit OPEN shots they will win multiple titles.

How did Kobe make Gasol better? He was averaging 20 and 10 in Memphis and sprinkled a couple assists in there too.

Lakers got lucky Memphis gift wrapped Gasol to them. They probably dont win without him anchoring the middle for Kobe.

Well if Kobe is so great what happened from 2005 to 2008. His team was trash. He had to average over 30 for his team to be a 6th seed at best.

So if he wins two more he's better than Jordan too right?

Lets face it you need a good

Lets face it you need a good #2 option to win an NBA title these days, Gasol doesn't negate Kobe's accomplishments, Pippen didn't negate Jordan's and Kareem and Magic didn't negate each other. Since when does playing with Pau Gasol make Kobe less effective?? You know if Kobe was on the Cavs team he would be putting up bigger stats. I love stats, don't get me wrong, but Kobe's Bball IQ, the way he adapts and learns, and his competitive nature make him the best player in the league IMO.

gasol was a solid player before he got with kobe, and yes he did lead his team to the playoffs, but everyone seems to forget he never even won a playoff game before he went to the lakers, they got swept everytime, so yeah he is much better with kobe

I forget who said it but it

I forget who said it but it was a good point that lebron led the league in 4th qtr scoring because people always say he isnt a great closer...He had some less than stellar nights against the celts but kobe had a horrible night in game 7 too...He had other people chip in for him to win the title. Lebron had the same kind of woeful shooting night...difference is...Kobe had an elite team...while lebron was trying to lead the subpar to the promised land

lebron did deserve his last 2

lebron did deserve his last 2 mvps so bringing up stats isnt gonna prove everything becasue i agree based on stats lebron is the best. But there is more to stats that kobe brings and that is why is the best player in the league. He does what it takes to win. Also, kobe got off to great start last year for like the first 6 weeks and most sites and fans considered him the favorite to win mvp. He then hurt his finger and had to tape it up and then his season went into a tailspin of inconsistent shooting nights. Lets see where is at now that he has had a summer to rest.

LeBron Stats

Really liked those stats Mr. Knick, I am really a big LeBron fan and those stats are quite impressive to me. To me, LeBron is close to being the best player in the NBA, usurping Kobe, but Kobe has one major thing over LeBron, which is of course the fact that he has led a team to a championship (two where he was the unquestioned leader, three where he was a major piece). You say that Pau Gasol has not gotten better playing with Kobe, that Kobe has not helped Pau. Well, I think that is bogus. Pau's stats may not have changed dramatically since playing with Kobe, his STATUS has. Was anyone calling Pau Gasol a top 10 player, or even close, when he was on Memphis? If Pau Gasol were still on a losing team, putting up these same numbers (I mean, I do not think he would be putting up numbers much differently on another team), how would he be ranked ahead of guys like Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire. Pau was also known as a soft player, and I feel like his attitude has changed, and while I do not credit that all to Kobe, as there are more factors, I think Kobe does hold players to a standard and they follow him. Honestly, it is similar to Michael to an extent. His percentages have improved dramatically, as have his rebounding numbers, and we also have more of a chance to see his tremendous court vision that was a footnote at Memphis. So, to me, Kobe has definitely helped Pau Gasol become the player he is now. Situation is a big part of where a player is ranked in the scale of the NBA. If David West were playing for the Sacramento Kings, would he have still made the All-Star team? Possibly, but I think Chris Paul had a huge part of his making those teams. Let's just say, if Pau Gasol had not been traded to these Kobe Bryant led Lakers, I think there is no way he would be ranked in the top 10 players in the NBA.

On a footnote, I was wondering if people had seen "Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals". Amazing documentary, those guys were damn amazing. HBO makes some amazing features, and this one was right up there.

I'm so glad the "LeBron

I'm so glad the "LeBron didn't have an elite team" excuse is over. I've never heard so many excuses given for the best player in the NBA. I've never heard so many excuses for a MVP.

Why wasn't Kobe getting that same excuse when Smush Parker was his starting point guard and Kwame Brown was his starting center? Medvedenko and Mhim were playing big roles. Bynum was still in diapers.

And anybody saying Kobe hasn't taking Pau Gasol's game to another level is delusional. Gasol was always talented and put up decent numbers, but he's a much better now than he was in Memphis. He's tougher, more confident and just mentally stronger. Gasol has improved big time since he was traded to the Lakers.

I find it hilarious that people seem to ignore the fact the Celtics didn't play well in game seven. The Lakers having a great team is part of the reason they won, but not the only reason. They won because Pierce shot 5-15, Allen shot 3-14 and Rondo missed plenty of shots at the rim. They won because the Celtics let up and got outrebounded by 13. The Lakers hung around and were able to win the game.

The Cavs were the best team in the NBA two seasons in a row led by the two time MVP and were the favorites to win it, but yet all we hear are excuses.

When you say STATUS dont you really mean HYPE? i mean isnt that the same thing. Now that he plays with Kobe he's better? So not playing with Kobe made him a worse player?

Gasol was who was before he got there.

mel, gasol was softer before

mel, gasol was softer before he got to the lakers. Bobby jackson called him out for being soft when they were teammates in memphis. Gasols first year in LA he got punked and was labeled as soft by everyone. After he had time to work with the lakers and kobe getting on him everyday as the teams leader, gasol has pretty much shedded that soft label.

Ok Kobe made Gasol better,

Ok Kobe made Gasol better, but Lebron was good enough to have Mo Williams be an all star and helped players like Varjao get $50 million contracts. When Kobe has won championships he has always had a decent team beside him let me see what Lebron does now that he has a decent team, I guarantee most of you will have no argument once u see how this year Lebron will look far superior to Kobe.

The 2nd leading scorer to that team Lebron led to the finals in 2007 was Larry Hughes. Where is he now?

The BIGGER question is what

The BIGGER question is what happened to Larry Hughes when he joined LeBron??? He averaged 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals the year before. Why didn't LeBron make him better?

You LeBron apologists can't have it both ways... In one hand, you cry about how Mo Williams sucks, but then in the other hand you talk about how LeBron made him an All-Star. NOW, if I was to flip that argument and say LeBron had All-Star teammates, you'd say "Well, Mo was an alternate."

Lebron didn't have a elite

Lebron didn't have a elite player next to him. Yet he won 61 and 66.

Kobe didn't have a elite player next to him. He won like 35, 42 and 45

Like I said in the past, you need 2 really good guys to win a title. Kobe has his and when he didn't he was nowhere near the guy we expected to be. He had a lotto team with Caron Butler and Lamar Odom, yet " Kobe is the best in the NBA?" come on now.

This is the year for me, LeBron had Mo Williams ( who I said in 09 was a #3 when he got ripped up by RAFER ALSTON in Orlando in game 3) as his number 2.

And Mr. Knick 32... I get a kick out of you. I laugh whenever I read your posts about how people just don't like LeBron right now. Do you realize who's the most disliked player in the NBA and who has been for some time??? Kobe Bryant. He was disliked even before the incident in Colorado.

Kobe averaged 35.4 points in 2005-2006, but finished FOURTH in the MVP race. Talk about not liked... Kobe hasn't been liked his entire career. And the reason is because he's the best. People can't stand him.

Larry Hughes was always a good scorer. That is a great question. I would just heep it up to the fact Larry never really fit with Cleveland and he never had that connection with LBJ I guess. That's one thing. Also, Hughes was a #3 guy in Washington to me. Plus- never trust those contract year numbers.

I never said Mo Williams

I never said Mo Williams sucks he just sucks in the playoffs for some reason I dont know if he can't handle the pressure or what, but he performs worse in the playoffs. Kobe's teammates actually step up I've said this already before, but for Kobe I remember Fisher, Gasol, Artest, Horry, Shaq, and Ariza stepping up to make big plays in the playoffs for Kobe.

Name me one player that has stepped up for Lebron when he's had a bad game in the playoffs

Kobe could not have won the mvp that year, because for whatever reason the NBA only gives the award to the best player on the best teams. Kobe was just the best player that year

I just don't understand. Do you really think that Mo Williams is a comparable second option to Gasol or a prime Shaq?

Obviously nothing is certain, but I feel fairly confident in saying that Lebron would have a championship by now if he'd played with one of those two.

Alright. I defend Kobe as well. I don't people saying things like "LBJ is a 2nd option" or "LBJ is the 3rd best player in the NBA". If someone said things about Kobe in his prime, I would disagree with them too. I don't play favorites IMO.

you cant compare lebrons wins

you cant compare lebrons wins in cleavland these last few years to what kobe won from 205-2007. Lebrons had WAY better teams then kobe did. And the 1 laker team that missed the playoffs was injured all-year.

I just don't understand the excuses... Cleveland had the best record in the NBA two seasons in a row... They were the favorites to win it. LeBron was the two-time MVP. The Cavs didn't make the Finals either season.

Then compare the 1st 3 LBJ

Then compare the 1st 3 LBJ seasons to Kobe's 3 years without Shaq then. There similar but LBJ was still young.

My argument in all this: You give LBJ a top 10 player with him, they win a title and LBJ is seen as the best player in the NBA. I feel even without winning a title and the fact that he already led teams to 60 plus wins by himself and with no #2 type player makes me believe LeBron is a better player then Kobe and if you gave LeBron a #2 player in the NBA, he would have similar, if not, better results ( stats, wins) then Kobe.

Lebron didn't make the finals because he lost to better teams

2008: Cavs lost to a much better Celtics team in 7 games, Kobe's team got beat in 6, and that Celtics team ended with the NBA championship

2009: Cavs had no answer for Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis and Turkoglu were causing mismatch problems that the Cavs could not overcome. Mo Williams also choked in that series

2010: The Celtics play a brand of defense that focused on Lebron, u saw what it did to Kobe, the defense the Celtics played forced his teammates to step up and make shots...they never did. That Celtics team was great too if they had Perkins and Ray allen made his open shots they wouldve beaten the Lakers in Gm 7

playoffs stats from last

playoffs stats from last season:

lebron james...29.1ppg...9.3rpg...7.6apg...50%fg

kobe bryant...29.2ppg...6rpg...5.5apg...46%fg

so lebron takes a slight edge in stats, but kobe shared the ball more and doesnt dominate it everytime down.

andxxx, celtics do play great

andxxx, celtics do play great defense, but lebron was constantly passing the ball off to guys without trying to go at it. He had a wide open 16 footer in game 5 and passed it up to andersen verjao to take an open 18 footer as the shot clock winded down. That was one of multiple plays that had everyone wondering what was up with lebron and the cavs owner saying he quit on the team.
