When Lebron fouled out tonight there was a graphic saying it was the first time he had ever fouled out as a member of the Heat.. Looked it up and he’s averaging 1.9 fouls per game over his entire career.. Thinking about this as someone who plays as physically as him, how is this possible? He plays very physical defensively and on offense is not a passive jump shooter who only operates on the perimeter, he pounds down low, fights for position and rebounds a lot.. I don’t want to accuse of favoritism or him getting too much benefit of the doubt.. Or.. Does he play that clean? (I don’t think so at all, but I’m curious what everyone else thought about this…)

The fact of the matter is that Lebron is a great defender that plays smart defense, however stars get a little more special treatment than others, and that 1.9 average should be more around 2.5, or closer to 3, but that’s just part of the game, stars get the benefit of the doubt.

And he played a good game today, that double foul on him and Garnett was so BS, that even Garnett looked confused on why it was a double foul. I still think the Heat will win in 7, but don’t be surprised if these plucky Celts come back on Tuesday and take the lead, but even if Mimai gets past Boston, they have no chance against OKC or San Antonio without Bosh.

Refs deffinately give Lebron a bit of an edge, but what do you expect for someone being crowned as the best player in the world?  On the other hand, not all calls go his way as that last call where he fouled out was garbage.  He was posting up and Pietrus absolutely flopped, smh.

He’s not "crowned" the best player in the world.  He IS the best player in the world.  If you can’t wrap your mind around that obvious fact, you are lacking a basic capacity to analyze.  Lebron is as good as Durant on O and is a top-5 defensive player in the NBA (Durant is not).  The third best player is a notable step down from these two.  Whether he gets special treatment or not is another issue.  But there is no doubt: Lebron is the best player in today’s NBA.

If Rondo is denied the title of best point guard because he doesn’t have a consistent jump shot, then how can you guys consider LeBron the best player in the NBA? The guy has just as many holes in his game.

Go to espn.com and look up Lebron’s stats for the last five years.  Then compare against anyone else.  Then watch some film of LBJ playing all five positons effectively.  Then watch film of him playing shut-down D against several of the NBA’s most prolific point/wing scorers.  Then, smash your head into your monitor for failing to grasp the obvious for the last five years.

As for Rondo… a while back espn did some funny commercials about a hoops prospect that had it all.  He was amazing, except for one thing… when he’d shoot it was rarely even in the vicinity of the hoop.  My point: In basketball, shooting is really important.  At the end of the day we only track stats because we believe they lead to buckets or denials of buckets.  By NBA point guard standards, Rondo is a flat-out horrible shooter.  There’s a reason defenses sag to the ft line when guarding him.  He’s simply not an outside threat.  At all.

Despite that weakness, he may be the best pg in the game.  He’s #1 on my personal pg list.  He is the best passer.  He’s an elite point defender.  There’s no pg I’d take above him for a playoff run.  But for all of LBJ’s flaws, he doesn’t have any single flaw that stands out like Rondo’s shooting (although his shooting has actually been much better than normal this post season).

LeBron is really good at defending without fouling.  His superior athelticism and strength allows him to avoid blocking or pushing fouls and rarely does he leave his feet to early or reach for steals he can’t get.  Sure, he may benefit a little from superstar calls, but basically he is a really good defender who doesn’t commit any unnecessary fouls.  I was surprised to see him foul out, as it is just something he is good at avoiding.

Are you kidding me? Skip Bayless does it again, he’s ripping Lebron for not taking that lost shot, I mean really? Lebron was dribbling into a triple team! Stephen A is about to tell him off.

And I hate the plays Erik Spoelstra drew up at the end of regulation and OT. They just hung out around the perimeter and had no player movement at all. Erik Spoelstra is a good coach, but nothing more than that, you can’t have such stagmented plays liek those.

This goes back to what I was saying last year. Spoelstra is one of the worst coaches calling a play out of a time out.

I understand Spo is Riley’s disciple or something, but Riley should be coaching this team…
