Lebron reportedly said he should be defensive player of the year.  Basically saying that no one in history has guarded all 5 positions and he should be rewarded for that.  (Again, why does he say this stuff?  I think he’s great for the game but just keep this kind of talk to yourself..)

I’ve always thought the DPOY should go to the guy who anchors the best defense, kinda more like a defensive MVP.  Miami right now ranks 12th in defensive efficiency while the Pacers are leading the category by a mile.

If anything I think Lebron has fallen off a little bit this year defensively compared to the past 2 seasons and I would give it to one of the Pacers.

What do you guys think of Lebron saying this?  Would you be opposed to him receiving DPOY?

For the record, my vote would be Roy Hibbert although George and Stephenson are great defenders as well.  I think that defense would look a lot different without Hibberts length controlling the paint.

I know NO one can stop Durant, but it’s hard to hear him make such a claim so soon after #1 stating he needs help guarding Durant and #2 following that up by getting torched by Durant.

you are over exagerrating with the "torch". KD didnt torch lebron, he did have the better all around game that day.

what was ironic about that game was lebron actually outscored KD their last matchup.

Lebron should’ve won it last year. this year, not so much. i feels he jus thinks he should’ve won one by now for his great defensive efforts and versatility throughout his entire career.

         Yes KD *TORCHED* LBJ

& that stuff about LeBron scoring more is weak becuz they put up the stat that KD scored over 20 of his points w/ LBJ guarding him & LBJ only scored 6-8 of his points w/ KD guarding him

lol no,KD didnt "torch" lebron. you can over exagerrate as much as you want,it still wont be true.

KD switched off lebron most of the game. lebron was guarding KD more than KD was guarding lebron.

KD torched him. 32 points on 22 shots and 52% from field and 44% from 3 and 5 assists. He drove passed Lebron multiple times for fouls, buckets and assists. Now it is arguably the best offensive player in the league but he did torch Lebron. Not saying that should go against Lebron but after that Lebron should’ve kept this opinion to himself.

DPOY I think is coming down to Hibbert and Deandre Jordan but think Hibbert is quite far ahead of Jordan.

and lebron shot a better % from the field while scoring 34 points,2 points more than KD. he had 3 assists and for anybody who actually saw the game, they would’ve saw the Heat bricking every shot that game other than Lebron. hard to get an assist when you’re teammates are shooting horrible from the field.

like i said before, they were no " torching" going on. lol you guys can say it as much as you want,it still wont come true.

im also not saying lebron out played him that game cus he didnt, jus " torched" is a strong word and it doesnt apply here.

I think he could have had a case for the past couple of years, but I don’t see him adding a DPOY award to his resume this year. His career averages are down for blocks and steals as well. Some how as talented as LeBron is he is only blocking .3 shots per game this year. Roy Hibbert or Anthony Davis will be the DPOY this year.

Not this year.  I think Roy Hibbert has it locked up and has had it locked up since December, really.

The last two seasons, he had a really strong case and I would go as far as saying he got robbed from it last season, Tyson Chandler?  Really?  After the Knicks were 18th in defensive rating?  But I digress.

This year, LeBron has taken a step back.  The Heat in general have taken a step back on both ends.  They seem much more relaxed, I guess that’s what happens when you win back-to-back titles.

Speaking of which, if the Heat don’t play with the same intensity and chip on their shoulder that they’ve played with the last two seasons, they’re going to have a tougher time against the Pacers and I could see Indiana in the Finals.

He does his job on defense and it’s a plus that he can switch onto about anyone but no that doesn’t make him defensive player of the year.  I remember the first year he really committed to playing good defense, not just chase down blocks, and he was shutting some high quality scorers down but I haven’t seen him do something like that in a while.  If he wants to be DPOY he needs to hold good scorers to single digits and make the greats (Durant, Melo, George, etc.) struggle.

I think Roy Hibbert will win simply due to thats what they always do, give it to the guy on the best defensive team, ala Marc Gasol last year, even if they dont really deserve, which, to be honest, I dont think Roy Hibbert does. He is a good defender, not a great one. He is extremely slow, and his defensive defeciencies get covered up by how great his wing defenders are. On a pick and roll that Paul George/Stephenson/George Hill isnt defending the ball, guards take it right past Hibbert, not every time, but a good lot of the time simply because he is slow. I think Anthony Davis is most worthy of the award, but New Orleans struggles as a team will stop him from getting it because he hasnt been able to elevate them into an elite defensive category like the DPOY should be doing for his team. I think the nod should go to Paul George, he is the glue that holds the Pacers D together. Without him, I dont think they would be anything close to the defensive monster they are today, and I think they would still be relatively close if you subtract Hibbert.

Well according to Zach Lowe, who I trust 100%, LeBron’s been having a down year on D. But I think people give Hibbert too much credit for the Pacers’ defense, he plays alongside some good individual defenders and with a great defensive coach. Its not like he’s turned the Cavs into the #1 D in the league, he’s playing alongside Paul George, George Hill, Lance Stephenson, and the solid David West. That being said, he’s an amazing rim protector, if a bit lacking in mobility.

It’s gonna be Hibbert though, and I won’t be complaining.

And by the way, what a non-classy move for a 2 time champ and I believe 5 time MVP to publicly whine for a DPOY.

Going to go with a dark horse and go with Anthony Davis. Leads the league in blocks and is averaging a double double. He also has a sneaky 1.5 steals per game. Do i think he’s going to win it? No, but he has to be up there with a name you mention for winning it

I think some awards are given by long term recognition. Hibbert is a great defender and has been for the last 3-4 seasons, that’s why he’s going to win the award this time. Anthony Davis will get more consideration starting next season if he continues to put the same numbers.
