He’s coming back. Another year and he’ll be a 1st rounder for sure.. He’s still very raw and he’s improved so much in terms of matureness, shot selection, and overall leadership.. Next year he’s taking Cincinnati to the NCAA Tourney as ATLEAST an 8 seed.. Just watch

He’s going to be an All-American and 1st round pick. Next year.

He’s a talented scorer and he’s also an underrated and intense defender. He’s not a great pure shooter, but he can get hot and make shots from all over the court. What he lacks in leaping ability he makes up with heart, length, and quickness. He’s going to be a 1st option scorer in the NBA. Just watch.

I’m sorry, but that’s ridiculous. He was able to dominate in highschool ’cause he could just bull his way to the basket and overpower people, but it’s pretty obvious he can’t do it in college so he sure as hell won’t be able to do it in the league. He’s not that quick, can’t shoot that well, can’t jump [yes, I saw the dunk he had last month. One dunk on the break from a 6’5″ guard doesn’t mean sh!t] and has to DOMINATE the ball to be effective. He has his moments off the bounce but he has to dribble the air out of the ball to get anywhere. He’s basically a dying mans Tyreke Evans. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he winds up plaing his career out in Europe.

I disagree with you.. When you play at Lincoln.. Which is the TOUGHEST high school to play at in New York.. You learn to play very very physical.. He’s a player that opposing 2guards will be afraid to guard because he’s so strong and physical.. Put him down on the low block against almost any 2 guard in the NBA and he’ll break em down..

What??? Just ’cause you can back down 5’11” highschool 2-guards does not mean you can back down the average 6’5″ 210lb + NBA off guard. I don’t give a sh!t where you went to highschool, it’s not the NBA. If he were able to do it then he’d be doing it in college first, and so far he can’t. I can’t believe some of the nonsense I’m hearing on this kid.

First of all.. He played at LINCOLN… If you don’t know what that means, then you shouldn’t even be on this forum.. Lincoln plays one of the toughest schedules in the nation, he doesn’t play against players that are 5’11” he plays against the best shooting guards in the nation.. He completely trashed Devin Ebanks 3 times in his senior year.. Put that in for consideration.. 2nd of all, when you play at Rucker, like he did almost every day, you don’t play with 5’11” players, you have to guard 6’8″ players… You obviously don’t know about NY basketball.

Dude, I know about Lincoln’s history, but so far only one of their alums has had a good NBA career, and he was such a headcase he talked himself out of the league. I don’t give a sh!t what he did against Ebanks, ’cause he’s another overrated prospect, and I sure as sh!t don’t care how he did against playground players, no matter how catchy their nickname. The facts are that you say what he’ll do against NBA players when he can’t even do it aginst college kids. How else do I need to put it? Do you want me to spell it out for you? The New York hype machine won’t help against real ballplayers, and so far Stephenson hasn’t lived up to the hype. Face it: He’s a borderline NBA player at best and will probably wind up in Europe.

What do you mean he hasn’t lived up to the hype? People weren’t expecting him to go to the league after 1 year.. If you read his press clippings, NY is giving him 3 years in college.. 2nd of all, there’s no need to cuss or use offensive vocabulary.. 3rd of all.. He’s the Rookie of the Year for his conference so he’s obviously improving.

He’s the ROY in a down year with other underachievers. NY might be saying three years now, but I distinctly remember reading articles about him possibly going to Europe out of highschool. But, the interest from their side wasn’t there ’cause guess what? He’s not that good. He’s putting up mediocre stats against a relatively weak schedule. Guys who will “dominate in the league” generally come out of the gates blazing. He’s never more than smoldered.

“generally come out of the gates blazing. He’s never more than smoldered.”

That’s not true.. There are many.. MANY draft busts.

    Players that dominated college ball:
Troy Bell averaged 25ppg in 4yrs, where is he now?
Christian Laettner dominted Shaq AND Alonzo Mourning.. Now what?
Adam Morrison was deemed “a shorter Dirk Nowitzki”.. Now he plays whenever the Lakers are up by 20.
Mike Conley did very well in college.. Now he averaged 8-4
Jerryd Bayless averaged about 20ppg in his freshmen year, now he averaged 6-2 as a backup.
    Bill Walker.. 15ppg in college.

Just because you come out firing doesn’t mean you’re going to be an NBA star.

You missed my point entirely. I wasn’t saying big numbers in college guarantee NBA success. I don’t even know how you inferred that. I was saying that the dudes who do go on to NBA success generally start out standing out, not doing just average.

    Notre Dame
    UConn (Twice)

    Lost:
    Gonzaga by 2
    Marquette by 3
    West Virginia by 6

Who cares where anyone played high school kid….NBA scouts and GM’s don’t care, and 99.9% of college basketball programs don’t care. Saying that so and so will succeed in the NBA because of where they played high school basketball is absurd. It all comes down to talent and potential, Stephenson lacks the latter.

You are severely underrating him. In HS he played against people taller than 5’10”. Lets be serious here. He played at Lincoln and he played in more than enough AAU games and all-star events, so he’s played against guys that are college players. He hasn’t really shown the attitude problems most thought he had either. Wait until next year when Deonta Vaughn graduates. You guy will see just how good he really is..

Alot players have decent production like Stephenson did as a freshman. I think it’s stupid to say he’s not going to be a great player in the NBA because he averages 12 ppg and 5 boards and a 1 stl while also having a high level of potential. He’s got the ability to be a great post-up player on the wing, he shows good playmaking ability for others and if Cincy didn’t continue to let struggling Deonta Vaughn be their PG (he’s really more of a SG) he’d show it alot more. He already makes a bunch of moves alot of NBA players can’t make. He will have a Tyreke Evans-esque wingspan, which always helps make up for a lack of leaping ability and he’s already got solid quickness and explosive strength. He’s more of an NBA player than college player, when looking at his strengths. He does need the ball in his hands to be his best, but do you remember Tyreke Evans before he was a starter?? His production was about the same as Stephensons..What’s the difference in Stephenson and Evans as freshmen?? Besides the fact that Stephenson has a better mid-range game?? You guys will see next year I guarantee it….

New York is very over hyped….CASE IN POINT SEBASTIAN TELFAIR. It is no longer the mecca of basketball and Michael Jordan grew up in NC….

With the internet there is no longer any mecca of basketball, moves are updated daily.. AAU circuits go across the nation, I am sorry to say that the competition is gone. I am native of Jersey and we have far more better players in the league right now compared to NY. Jerzy is the mecca, so far you wont find a superstar in that area but you will get yourself alot of stars…..

    LAST NY LEFT
Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, Andre Blatche ( And he was upstate), Ben Gordon

Someone start a post on the best states producing nba stars in the NBA …. I think D.C.. and Chi Town has taken over

I agree though that lance is on tyreke evans level but evans has the long cross over and akward high release which allows him to get his shot off…….Compare Jamal Crawford to a stephon marbury….He has the quick NY cross but evans is so long with his handles it is very deceptive and he uses his body so welll. We will see he should at least make the league than it depends on situation

Ray Allen played highscool ball in South Carolina

      Carlos Boozer played in Alaska

      Brandon Roy played in Washington

      Richard Jefferson played in Arizona.

David Lee played highschool ball in Missouri.

Where are you getting your info from? Boozer played for EBO in AAU, but other than that I don’t understand how you could be so blatantly wrong.

First of Lance had a good year for a freshman, no he didn’t dominate but he had a good year ROY in the Big East.
The Big East is tough and who ever thinks it’s not doesn’t know NCAA ball or is a hater. I think he will be a pro and a good pro. He can handle the ball real well, he looks bigger than 6’5″ long arms.He is very competitive, he matured a lot this year. He won’t be a star but he will be a starter in the NBA.
If you watch him play you could see he still was stronger than most 2 guards he played this year in college and he will only get stronger and bigger.

NY tri-state area does have some good players still but Texas, Chi, area have passed NY, B-more DC and N Carolina is coming up, and Cali has the most talent coming out right now.

man everybody is competitive, in the NBA

Lance Stehenson is going to be the next Turner, unathletic bulldozer

I can see it already Lance Stepheson like Turner will be shifted to point guard

to maximize his “athleticism” and lead to media outlets overrating his limited mismatch ability at the next level

heck why not get a European point-forward like Bjelica

they’re taller and just as “athletic” as Lance/Turner

the standards are sinking 4 real

I was wondering that as well. Turner has proven himself to be the best overall player in the country, can get [and make] his shot whenever he wants and makes his teammates better. I’m not sold on him being a star at the next level but he’ll definitely be a contributor on a winning team. He and Stephenson play absolutely nothing alike.

    1. David Lee and Ray Allen were born in cali.. That’s where i got it from..

Boozer, Roy, and Jefferson played high school ball and were from Cali.. The college doesn’t matter.. LeBron could have gone to college in Alaska, doesn’t mean he’s from Alaska..

Tell me some players from NJ.. And if NJ was the capital of basketball.. Why don’t they have any good College or High School or NBA Teams?

    L.A. Lakers (NBA)
    USC (College)
    UCLA (College)
    Stanford (college)
    Cal (College)

Cali is the state with the most NBA players, with Illinois and Texas coming in second and third, respectively. It’s just silly to me when someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about tries to come across as an authority. Also, I think where you grew up should count as where you’re from, not where you’re born. It’s like an adopted kid wouldn’t call the people who gave him up his/her parents, you know?
