WinterSoldierParticipantI hope the kid uses the isolation well and works on his game without distractions. If he uses it right it could be a gift the teammates he has now are not winners they won’t be able to teach him to be a winner. I’m not condoning what he did in anyway but it could end up being a positive if he just takes a step back and focuses on the game.

Hype MachineIts cos hes a RAT
Once a rat snitch, always a rat snitch. The rep will never leave him. Neither will the boo’s.
He has 3 choices..
1) Embrace the Villian role…like Bill Lambeer
2) Find a nice quiet community in another country where basketball isn’t popular, and lead a life of solidarity. Wales perhaps…
3) Become the poster child for snitching, and join the production team of the TV show "Cheaters"…and continue his current lifestyle of ratting out other men. Hardly a respectable job, yet might as well get paid to do it.
Being respected by any other male on the planet isn’t an option.

ChewyParticipantcan teach him how much of a microscope every single one of his actions is as an NBA athlete (specifically in a huge media center like LA) then he should grow a lot as a player and a person. This is a kid who is supposed to be a team leader sometime down the road. Could be a good learning opportunity for me, once the story dies down and people start forgetting.

benny15Participanti dont think it will ever be forgotten, but as mopgrass has mentioned, if they keep on winning, people will start cheering for him again. kobe had one of the most publicized rape trials and people didnt forget but they moved on. chris webber’s antics as a wolverine will never be forgotten, but it dint stop fans chearing for him when he was making all-star apearances and all-nba rosters
time heals all wounds, including this one. weather or not thats with the lakers we can only wait and see

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantLet’s not overreact or pretend Russell’s career is over. There have been players who have been in much worse scandals than this and rebounded just fine. Didn’t Kobe essentially do the same exact thing to shaq after the Colorado incident? Even magic Johnson was booed by fans and considered a back stabber after getting westhead fired early in his career.
It will be tough on Russell for awhile but as long as he learns from this incident, stays out of trouble and ( most importantly) plays well this will eventually blow over. Maybe it won’t be completely forgotten but it will just be dismissed as a stupid mistake by an immature rookie.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantFrom this point on no matter what Russell does on the court, what he did will affect his career. Bad teams and desperate teams may give him a chance, but I doubt a team like Gold State or the Spurs what want to bring him in and give him a meaningful role.
He had better be damn good on the court from here on out, because otherwise any team will be hard pressed to give him any resembling a good contract. By what he did he severely hurt his earning potential and will it nearly impossible to be leader on any team which he plays for.

jabbar_medvedenkoParticipantAs a Lakers fan, I’m much more comfortable with a 20 year old doing stupidity like this and learning from his own mistakes than getting an ACL tear or something like that as was the case with Randle last year.
Okafor had a number of his moments this year and nobody said a word, Kobe had his shenanigans with the trial and bashing O’Neal,… you have to fight adversity and keep playing. And he was OK against Heat, so I’m fine.

SubZeroParticipantDo people actually believe he uploaded the video on purpose? What purpose would that serve? He’s not a snitch, he just did something really really dumb. Who knows how that video got uploaded, but I would bet he didn’t do it on purpose. If he’s that dumb to think something good would come out of that, he would’ve never made it to college

Magic JordanParticipantYeah he got booed which is ridiculously petty of the Lakers fans. For some reason, and I have no idea why but the city of LA loves Nick Young.
About half way through the first quarter the Lakers fans were again cheering for him, most are sheep and will forget quickly.
I was hard on him initially for putting himself in a situation for this to come to light. I don’t think he did it intentionally and you could tell he felt terrible about it and he should. Frankly I feel bad for the kid, anytime I hear someone say they feel sick because of something that they unintentionally did and are facing severe consequences for I feel empathy. Perhaps I am unique in this internet day and age where everybody is the judge, jury and executioner.
People are willing to bury this 20 year old kid right now because of this and it speaks volumes to where we stand as a society.
This will pass, this isn’t something that’s going to follow him around his whole career, though it does probably damper him for the next few months. He seems like a fun, light hearted guy, I would hate to see that light put out because of something that accidentally happened to the village clown Nick Young, as shitty as it may be.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI was AFRAID that the league was peaking.
Maybe it is.
Some posters on another board were actively worried about the NBA not being as good this year. BUT, it was a Grizzlies board and this year is legitimately (for the entire city of Memphis) turning into the Basketball Season From Hell.
