lakers fan beware
I hate to rain on your guys parade but, this is the LAST chance for LA to squeeze out a title from their current core, heres why: Andrew Bynum is a free agent after this season and it doesn't look like he will resign as he has shown a ton of interest in Houston and Cleveland, Kobe Bryants comments about retirement after his contract is up which only has 2 years left should be taken very seriously, I doubt Kobe will come back to a watered down team, ironically pau gasol only has 2 years left on his contract also and I know he wont resign after the scrutiny and trade rumors he faces every season. LA has no good young players moving forward, add in the fact that they don't have any draft picks in the near future makes them in win now mode. In 3 years this team will only have Steve Nash and maybe Kobe with no good young players going forward, and the fact that the clippers are rapidly taking over los angeles as a better team and culture fad(lob city). It's do or die now in LA.
It's all about the benjamins baby!
trading the draft picks for nash the vet pick up of jamison shows they are all in in the next years with this group if bynums not gonna commit too staying i trade his azz too avoid not dealing with the magic are dealing with drama gueen 12 its never really been mentioned but why havent the lakers asked the nets or even the rockets what theyd give for bynum if hes gonna leave why not get lopez brooks and all those picks for some one whos leaving im not saying thats a fair trade but its better than losing him for nothing
next 2 years are are all that matters for the lakers then it will be rebuild mode. We are aware of that
as for the clippers, they arent a better team yet and i doubt they will be better over the next 2 years. Even when they do become better, it will only be their city for rent as the lakers will always be LA's franchise of choice for the fans. Not sure what you mean by better culture, people are only high on them becasue they didnt suck for the first time in a while and its fun to see them make moves and compete.
Llperez the clippers are a dangerous team, these two years is it for the lakers then its rebuilding for 3-5 years, the clippers are a huge culture fad to teens because of their exciting play and highlight dunks, didn't you see the commercial where the boy acts like Blake Griffin and big time California rapper made a song called ''lob city'' which is about the clippers
Nobody should argue the Lakers completely dominate the LA market, we're talking about one of the NBA's storied franchises. The top teams always seem to find a way to bounce back and the Lakers will be no exception. This is coming from a Kings fan, so I have no reason to lie or be biased.
Good point Kobe after 2 more years will be pushing 36 he should retire.
if you think the clippers could come remotely close to becoming LA's team within a few years you have never spent any significant time in los angeles. Thats not to say they wont grow their own fan base, but its not gonna become their town. Also who knows how long it will take the lakers to rebuild. The lakers have been in the nba finals every single decade sine the nba started up in the 40's. When magic retired and showtime ended, they missed the playoffs all of one season and were a 50 win team just 4 years later. Somebody will want to come to play for the lakers.
Llperez yes the Lakers own los Angeles now but looking towards the future, they have no draft Picks, good young players, they will have to start from scratch, the clippers are better built towards the future as they have Griffin, Jordan,cp3 likely to resign, and a lot of young players with potential. For some reason no one wants to go to LA besides Nash unless your banking on the Lakers landing LeBron in 2014
im not disagreeing with the clippers future down the road as of right now is clearly better. But does it really matter if you wont win it all? You think fans will jump ship based on 50 win seasons and exciting lob dunks? And when the team does blow it up, stars will want to come to la, its always been that way. And who knows who those stars are right now becasue they might not be stars/ even in the league yet. We are talking years down the road.
I know there are a lot band wagon jumpers in los angeles, but i think you are seriously underestimating how many laker loyalists there are as well. The laker parades are always packed and thats not the luxury box sitting celeb thats standing for hours in the sun in down town la to be a part of the parade.
I feel you but you got to admit that they will run into a rough patch in 3 years especially if Kobe retires which may happen
in summary, as i gotta go, there really isnt anything for laker fans to beware of. We know we are win now mode and eventually it will be rebuild mode. Thats part of the cycle and we will reflect on the great kobe bryant era while we look to see how the team moves forward. Sometimes rebuilding is fun, at least you have an excuse for losing and can feel good even when you dont win it all. I mean right now its anythnig less then a ring sucks and everyone will remind you of that the second you get elimnated. As for the clipps, i dont think anybody is worried about it. Lakers control their own destiny and if the clipps can become a good team good for them, its not like clipper succes &$#%#&@! off laker fans.
There is more pressure on the Lakers to win a title, than the Heat had all last season. The Heat knew they would have ample oppurtunities to win a title, but it was all based on how long the title would elude LeBron. For the Lakers, its like they set explosives inside their own house while their window of oppurtunity to escape with one last title is closing.
Charles Barkley said it best, the building is on fire.
The Lakers will be fine, they find ways all the time to improve their roster. Yes, they are in Win Now mode but they have been like that 90% of their exsistence.
The Lakers will find a way to bring in some talent after Kobe & Co. Leaves because thats what LAL always does, they dont need draft picks, last great player LA drafted was James Worthy!
Lakers might become an average team for 2-3 years but they will be right back in the mix sooner than most people give them credit for.
I honestly believe kobe indirectly saying give me a chance of titles now ! I don't think he will retire until that 6th ring and some scoring titles are caught up to. Bryant loves playing but he loves his legacy more.
If karl malone won an mvp when he was 36, do you really think kobe retring at 35? With his competitive nature and all i doubt .
I think people forget that there was a time the Lakers were no good but they tend to get great pretty quick.
Summer of '14 Kobe retires, Nash retires, Pau leaves town. They tank the following season and get the #1 pick in the draft. Calling it now.
we are looking to win now ( lakers fan ) we are making moves that give us a chance to compete for the next couple years, and the way things are going, we will. Kobe has a few great seasons left in him ( probably about 2-3 of 20+ PPG), Gasol is embracing his role as a third option and hopefully this year Brown will give him more touches in the offense and maybe allow him to use his amazing arsenal of post moves and not let him take jump shots and sit on the high post. Nash who still has a few seasons left of averaging high assists and Bynum and Gasol will have a field day with him. the only thing we are truly lacking to compete for these next 2-3 years is an athletic wing defender who can give Kobe a rest on defense and allow him to focus on offense. we also need a consistent bench and after Odom left it was evident that we lacked any sort of bench play which is crucial in playoff success ( for the most part ). Bynums emergence as a dominant post player and shot blocker also gives them a great advantage as well
Typical Laker fan being completely ignorant. Dealt with them all my life, and will continue to do so. All they know are Laker palyers, and even thats a push sometimes.
Oh and llperez YOU need to spend time in Los Angeles becaude Laker fans are the hugest bandwagoners in all of sports. Back in 2006 when the Clippers were better then the Lakers half of my friends switched over to the Clippers, then went back to Lakers when Lakers were good again. Fast forward to the Chris Paul trade, all of the supposed "Laker" fans started spreading "Go Clippers" like crazy on my news feed. So don't you dare say the LA culture is all about the Lakers. They want to see wins, and if the Lakers aren't winning, well hello Clipper bandwagoners.
They were in win now mode last year too... and the one before that... pretty much every year since they got shaq.. U wanna talk trash about them compare them to the 04' lakers because that is who they really remind me of..Just about any player selected after the pick they traded to the cavs for a one year rental for Session would have been a better long term move, but they wanted to make a run. It probably only works if they win a ring, but thats what their fans expect of them and their GM has pulled off some real ballsy moves to help them towards that goal.
I am not a Laker fan so I think I am fairly unbiased here. let's assume you are right, Kobe retires, Bynum bolts as does Pau. Well wouldn't that leave the Lakers with tons of cap space? Don't you imagine free agents would flock to play in LA? Consider the tradition, the weather, etc.
I don't think anyone should assume the Lakers would take more than a couple of years to be near. The top again.
I hate the lakers but if they are going to be bad its not gonna be for a while. They are such a well-runned organization. If Bynum leaves they'll be bad for a couple of years but if he stays they shouldnt really have to worry.
Hard to be bad consistently when you have Kobe/Shaq then Kobe/Gasol/Bynum for so long.
Once Kobe leaves he won't be so easy to replace an the Lakers also have no young talent to build around.
of all the franchises in the league the lakers have always done their best to retool and rebuild. the future is always bright for the lakers because simply they are the lakers.
The Lakers will have a lot of money and who wouldn't want to play in LA?? Not worried...#LakerNation
