Bmore_DCParticipantSorry if this has been posted already…but i read the Lakers would send Howard to GSW for Boguts expiring contract and either Klay Thompson or Barnes!
Seems like a weird deal, but smart for the Lakers.

kazamParticipantIm sorry if you guys disagree with me here but I dont know why the Warriors would give up on a talented, athletic young guy like Barnes so early. I think he will end up being a more complete player than Klay

KreedOneParticipantI prefer Barnes over Thompson too but I guess the Lakers want someone to have as a future with more potential if theyre giving up Dwight

Sewok15ParticipantGetting anything (whether it is Barnes or Thompson) for Dwight at this point would be a good move considering he is surely leaving….the problem is the Lakers pride and not wanting another Cali team to steal the headlines from them…again.

Sewok15ParticipantI disagree with you guys on Barnes becoming the better player. He was certainly the more hyped up player but if you take out his stellar playoff performance and highlight reel dunks he didn’t have that great of a rookie season. Thompson is only in his 2nd year and is only 2 years older than Barnes. We know Thompson is the better shooter especially from 3. We know Thompson is a better defender at this point as well. Barnes is the better athlete for sure but he is a guy that only flashes that athleticism once in a while and always leaves me wanting more. Thompson has a better midrange game as well and can score in a variety of ways.
Lets just compare their rookie seasons.
Barnes 9.8 PPG 4.1 RPG 1.2 APG .6 SPG 43.9 FG% 35.9 3PT% 75.8 FT% PER 11.08
Thompson 12.5 PPG 2.4 RPG 2.0 APG .7 SPG 44.3 FG% 41.4 3PT% 86.8 FT% PER 14.9
I am not saying Barnes can’t be better than Thompson but at this point I would be quicker to trade Barnes than Thompson if I had to deal one of them. Barnes did have more Win Shares as a rookie 2.8 to 1.7 but Thompson made a huge step in his overall game in his 2nd year. Klay upped his Win Shares to 4.7 based mostly off of defense and rebounding. Barnes could take a similar leap in his second year but I just haven’t seen enough from him to think he will improve at the rapid pace many people believe he will. He should be a very good offensive player in this league but I think Klay is actually the more complete player despite not being the athlete that Barnes is.

KHAM83ParticipantWarriors signed AI. I guess Barnes is on his way out in any potential deal.

Ghost01ParticipantThis is a win now league. The Warriors were good last year, but losing Jack and Landry was going to hurt there team. It would have been hard for them to succeed without going all in like this. They are either going to have Iguodala on top of that trio on the perimeter, or they throw Barnes on LA for Dwight. Barnes is a nice young piece, but Curry/Thompson/AI/Lee/Dwight? C’mon, that’s a pretty great starting 5.

OaktownWarriorsParticipantLook for the Dubs to trade Boguts and Barnes for Howard ! The Dubs could? have a starting lineup of Curry/Thompson/Howard/Iggy/Lee.

jhbm24ParticipantDo people not think a line up of
Curry/Iggy/Barnes/Lee/Howard
This is a better defensive lineup with more size an versatility, Thompson is goo I know but he’s incredibly inconsistent. If rather tell the Lakers, “look, you’re going to loose dwight no matter what, well give you Bogut and other contractsand 2 first round picks for a sign and Trade if you don’t take it you loose dwight for nothing.”
The Lakers should have ZERO leverage on this deal. Then the Warriors can keep both young guns and have Klay be a 6th man off the bench.0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/05/2013 - 11:50am #814066

Sewok15ParticipantThompson is a better defensive and offensive play than Barnes at this point. You could argue Barnes has more potential because his athletic gifts but if you are in win now mode as the Warriors appear to be I would roll with Thompson…especially considering the natural lineup of Thompson at 2 and Iggy at 3. Iggy is a great defender but he is more suited to play the 3 because his incredibly inconsistent jump shot. Iggy is a career 32.9 % 3 PT shooter while Thompson is has been over 40% both years he has been in the league.

sheltwon3ParticipantThompson’s 3 point range is a better fit with Howard. Barnes is a nice shooter but in a 3 pt shoot out, Thompson would win.
Also Iggy ability to handle the ball and pass will allow him to play a role similar to Jack.
