I dont know how you guys feel about this, but I feel like the Lakers are only 1 season away from contending again. Clearly next season will be a struggle but after that they only have Kobe Bryan  and this years rookie on the books.

For most teams this would be trouble, but given the way star players like to get together themselves to form superteams, LA seems a perfect destination given a completely free salary cap at a franchise that will happily pay the luxury tax.

Theyll also make millions more in endorsements so star players might even take a pay cut to go there.

Is the formation of a superteam next year a possibility?

I think it remains to be seen, they have the lakers brand and intrigue but who knows what will happen a year from now. I enjoy when the lakers are competing but they have a lot of issues.

The Lakers have put themselves in position to form a "superteam" in the upcoming seasons due to their financial flexibility. However, I do not see them realistically being able to do so as quickly as many Lakers fans expect but their track record always makes them an interesting team to follow in this circumstance.

At the moment, there is not much of a reason to sign with the Lakers if you’re a superstar in/entering your prime years. Kevin Love definitely would go to the Lakers if there were more pieces in place besides an aging Kobe Bryant but there are a handful of teams more attractive to him than Los Angeles due to their rosters. If the Lakers want to contend sooner rather than later, their best bet is to sure up the point guard position this year by either drafting Marcus Smart, offering the max to Eric Bledsoe, or signing Kyle Lowry to a big deal. If I’m Kevin Love and I know a young Eric Bledsoe will be in the fold for the end of Kobe’s career and the years after, the Lakers are a much more attractive option because they will still have money to sign another max player after Kobe leaves.

The most realistic best case scenario for the Lakers this offseason is signing Lowry, Deng, and Pau to 2-3 year deals to run with Kobe. They would also have to draft a solid player with the 7th pick. Other than this, I don’t really see them forming a contender in the near future. This team could be competitive in the Western Conference but would be around a 6th seed at the best.

I don’t think they have the players to attract a superteam trio. Usually players like to see a base of a decent roster before they jump on board. That isn’t there right now.

If they want to get a super trio, they should find some promising young players who they can underpay. They should find defensive guys and three point shooters because the superstars usually want the ball 99% of the time. If they can pull that off this year, they can make a splash next year.

HofstraPride, you are dead on it, best post I seen on Lakers on various web sites, add Gordon or Saric ( depends on what coach wants more offense or defense). Just not in love with Lowry, believe it or not I like Shaun Livingston, I know, I know the injury history will it stand up to 35 minutes a night, but watched him last year with Nets and he was really good better then DWill a lot of times, good passer, rebounds, scorer and plays defense. Livingston, Kobe, Deng, Saric or Gordon, Boozer, IDK Pau and that is a really long team on defense, Good for 6-8 seed next year.

More assets and keep their 2015 1st. I can see them being at the bottom of the west anyway . Wolves will probably be the worst in the west.

The Heat are the new Lakers.  The Clippers are doing well too.

the Lakers better watch out or they will be in Knicks/Cowboys territory.

They have a looooong way to fall to reach those two teams.  Knicks haven’t won anything since before most people on this site were even born…. Cowboys it’s also been over 20 years.
