Kyrie and the Cavs agreed to a max extension (5yrs/$90 mil IF he gets another ASG start this year)
They had to do it, but I’m not sure about him as a leader and max player. Him & Wiggins should be fun to watch run the break for the next few years though.

Do you guys think he’s worth the max?

Marcin Gortat no details on offer yet.

Parsons’ is supposedly near his max which is 14.88 for the 1st year, so that if he accepts it forces Houston’s hand. Either they match in 3 days(New CBA lowered from 7) and loose shot at Melo or LeBron or Cavs get him.

That’s a lot of money and there are the question marks about Kyries ability to truely lead a team and his defensive shortcomings but at least the Cavs finally seem to be comitted to their core player and they seem to move forward from all this crazy drafting since 2010. they are in a great position if they don’t sign Love or Bron or who ever. What they need now going forward is a plan with who they want to do this (Thompson/Bennet/Waiters) are all still question marks but Wiggins and Kyrie alone are a really good start now to me.

Very excited to see if the Parsons and Gortat rumors are true and what’s the price tag for that, especially Parsons since a MAJOR offer to Parsons should make a hell of a difference to the Rockets next moves in Free Agency.

Nah he isn’t worth the max.  There are really only a handful of guys who are worth the max, but the way the league is set up, there are going to be a lot of guys getting overpaid.

I don’t think he is worth a max either. Yes, he is talented but he is selfish and is injury prone…..

I don’t think he’s a winner. He’s obsessed with his own abilities and doesn’t get the best out of his team mates. The thing with Kyrie is that he’s going to do what he does regardless of who is around him, so he isn’t benefiting from better team mates or making his team mates better, he’s just an island.

Hopefully Blatt will get him to move the ball and get others involved a bit more, otherwise Wiggins is going to be one frustrated dude.

That gives Cleveland six more years to enjoy this guy before he ends up on a REAL team.

I always thought those on this site saying he could or should be trade were crazy… Yes, he’s worth the max. Had he become a free-agent, he’d have gotten a max offer from any team.

He still has some maturing to do and some holes to fill in his game, but he’s a superstar type of talent and he’s barely even scratching the surface of his potential.

This guy is a stud with average team mates. They’re getting him from 22-27 years old. He’ll be worth the money.

As everyone is saying, hes still very young. Most people think Kyrie is better than he currently is. They watch his ASG performances and see the yearly NBA rankings and think he’s a top 10 NBA talent when he is not. Kyrie will quietly improve as he matures. I really think this years 20.8 / 6.1 numbers are the lowest ones we’ll see for Kyrie moving forward.

I don’t think he is worth the max right now, but when you consider his age, potential, current skills and market, there is no way you are going to get away with paying him any less. Best case he eventually earns that deal, worst case he is probably still a perenial allstar putting up at least 20 a game. If Melo can get a max deal at 30 it’s really hard to argue Kyrie getting it at at 22 or 23.

If they max is what it took to get him to sign the contract then it is most definitely worth it. You need stars in this league and Kyrie is exactly that. Blatt is an amazing coach from everything I have read and heard about him so they should be much better next year.

Don’t forget the max for a player entering his first contract after the rookie deal it’s not as much as the max veterans can sign (unless he meets some requirements to sign the Derrick Rose max, but he doesn’t). It’s roughly $14 million per year. If you think guys like David Lee or even worse Carlos Boozer are getting more than that to play just one side of the court, being over 30 and not having any upside remaining, it’s more than obvious that a talented offensive player like Kyrie, being just 22, is a lock for this smaller max. Heck, Jeremy Lin gets $15 million this year (though it’s mostly because of the odd way his contract is structured). Also, the cap is projected to go up in each of the following season. The value and the impact of a salary is relative to the total amount of the salary cap. With projections saying the cap will likely be $63 million for this season and $66.5 for the next one (with the tax line projected at $77 million and $81 million) committing $14 million per year on a young talented player is not that scary, so I think it’s a no brainer to offer Kyrie that kind of money.

Is Kyrie worth the max?  Probably not from what we have seen so far between teams lack of wins (don’t tell me he doesn’t have solid talent around him, 90% of the East doesn’t), his slightly above Harden defense, and the fact that he is injured every year, but in an open market he is worth the max because it isn’t like the Cavs would have been the only team to offer it to him.  Kyrie has all the tools to be a max player, and for players coming off of rookie contracts in the NBA that matters a lot.  I would have thought the Cavs should have looked to give him a deal more in line with what Ty Lawson and Steph Curry received, but if Kyrie can stay healthy and improve his defense he may prove to be worth every dollar he will get.

Being worth the max and getting it are too different things. He’s good enough to get the max even though he may be a notch belie a max player. Some other team would’ve given him the max if Cleveland didn’tdidn’t

Just read that GM Griffin sees Wiggins as a big shooting-guard and might look to move Waiters. Looking at sf such as Parsons and Ariza. It’s on hoopshype.

That’s a lot of money to pay a guy with zero leadership skills.  Kyrie has talent around him and the Cavs should’ve been tons better than they were this year.  Saying Kyrie is a top 5 or top 10 point guard because he won the MVP of a glorified pick up game is absolutely ludicrous.  He has the talent, but has tons of growing up to do.  I hope Wiggins doesn’t tear his hair out playing with this guy.

He has had two different coaches in 3 years as well as two different GMs. Maybe with this coach he will become a better defender and his assist numbers will go up. For a 3 year player he has been almost as good as you can ask for. Give him a break.

You don’t give him the max for what he’s doing now. You give him based on what you think he’s going to do. Remember he hasn’t reached his prime yet.

By the way, I was wrong, Kyrie is not that far from meeting requirements set by D-Rose rule, he just has to be voted as an ASG starter next year (which makes me think that Dan Gilbert is probably asking all his friends and family to vote for other guards and probably even paying other people to do the same). If that happens his salary will be 30% of the cap (same as D-Rose), otherwise it will be 25% (same as Harden).
