Im curious as to why anybody would have an ounce of doubt with Kyle Lowry’s return to Toronto. Why wouldnt they pay him what he wants? He isnt going to gauge them. He doesnt want to leave. Why does everyone assume he will be difficult to retain when this is his team?

He is in a winning situation in his prime with everyone around him improving. Derozan locked in at 10-mil a year, Ross and Valanciunas on rookie contracts and a great team system along with management that inspires confidence.

Even if he wants his payday why does anyone think Toronto would just let him go and not pay him what another team would.

Every mock draft I see says Toronto "needs" a pointgaurd in case he leaves.

    Hes not leaving.

highly debatable, when youre country’s primary sport is Hockey?

although we dont have a chant, and we dont have cooperation in cheering but just watch Filipino Crowds watching Philippine Basketball Associatio games and you will see how passionate we are.

But with our high passion we have the curse of Being short,

Toronto had its best season in many years. I can definitely see him staying but, all the same, I would draft a PG at #20 just in case. Just my opinion.

People are saying the Lakers should target him. I doubt he leaves Toronto, they are a perfect fit.

Toronto should draft based on BPA, but Ennis should be considered because he is canadian and Vasquez may leave.

Also, don’t say "best basketball fans in the world". That’s a cliche and there is no clear-cut best at all. It’s arguable because it’s an opinion.

Well thats why I added arguably. I dont see any other NBA team that has thousands of fans outside of the stadium cheering them on for every playoff game. Correct me if Im wrong.

Pretty bold statement though since the raptors fans attendance on home games hasn’t been top 5in the past 10 years, or even top 10 percentage of attemdance. The show of support during the post season was great though, no doubt about it.

Knicks are unlikely to me. Limited money to spend unless Melo leaves and the point guard spot just isn’t as important in the triangle offense, so why spend that money there?

4yrs 46mil sounds fair for Lowry, they would still have space to make an offer for 2ndtier FA’s like PGasol and or LDeng if they find to offload LFields and or CHayes.

Toronto can also create more cap flexibility by waiving Salmons. Remember that only 1$ million of the $7 million on his final year is guaranteed.

4 yrs for $40-46 mill would be fair as stated. He is 28 and has had a history of missing games, I wouldn’t pay too much for him…..

Lowry free agency is definitely an intriguing subject. He had a terrific season, was by leap and bounds their best two way player and should’ve been an all star. Toronto had a good season and has young players so it seems like a promising team. But:

    1) Lowry has an history as a troublesome player, not easy to coach and often clashing with his teammates. Did he play the best season of his life just to get payed or has he really changed?

    2) How much can he get payed elsewhere? With the doubts on his character and the fact that the point guard position is incredbly loaded right now, can he really get a bigger contract leaving Toronto? Taxes might be an issue because, as far as I know, they’re higher in Canada. But still, it’s not a great era for second tier point guards to get big paychecks, because there are at least 6-7 guys who are franchise players and other 6-7 with all star talent and plenty of guys that could be easily starters. So teams might not want to spend a lot on a point guard, knowing they can find a reliable starter for a reasonable price, spending more money to upgrade other positions or the bench.

    3) Toronto has had a great season, and they’re young, but at the same time a lot of their success is due to the ineptitude of other Eastern Conference teams. It’s hard to figure out what will happen to the East this year. Some teams might get better, because they have young players who will get better, because they’ve cleaned out some of the mess they had, because they have assets to acquire good players, or simply because they were big time underachievers and there’s no way they can get any worse. But on the other hand we don’t know what will happen in Miami, it seems there’s some turmoil in Indiana, the Nets are as old as dinosaurs and some of their players were already fairly washed up this year and they have no flexibility nor picks. How competitive are the Raptors?

    4) All these things considered, if you’re Toronto do you really want to pay Lowry a max contract? He’s been outstanding this season, and they need him to stay competitive, they can’t really replace him if he leaves and Toronto is not that attractive a destination. But again, will he play the same way after getting paid? Is he really worth it? Will Toronto be competitive? It’s not that big of a risk, they have cap flexibility even if they pay Lowry a lot, but Valanciunas is going to be a free agent soon and they will have to make a decision on him. Plus almost every exec operating in a small market wants to have as much flexibility as possible (and Ujiri is a smart one).

I really don’t have an opinion and I haven’t made up my mind on what is the best decision for the Raptors, but it will be interesting to see and it also is going to have an impact on how good the East will be next year.

All of that is great but once you add the fact that he wae the model of consistancy in proffessionalism and performance for the team, and all the players on the team openly share any compliments they recieve and percieved success with Kyle Lowry due to his leadership. They cant let him walk its not even open for discussion. They take 2 steps back after taking 1 forward if they let him go.

I agree with you and that’s what I said in the 4th point, they can’t let him walk and there’s no way they can replace him. But I’m just saying, it’s the kind of decision that might go terribly wrong and that we fans, being such smartasses, might make fun of a few years from now even if we would’ve done the same. So I just think it’s not that easy for Ujiri.

Toronto fans…you guys should know by now that because your market isn’t a mainstream (Boston, New York, LA), people automatically discount your free agents and assume they want to leave or that other teams automatically have the right to pillage your roster.

Lowry is the top PG available, so all Laker, Heat, Knicks fans assume he will go there because they also could use a PG. Its annoying I know. Im a Twolves fan and I feel your pain.
