JunkYardDogParticipantGS give kwame brown a 14 year deal worth 7 M $…. not a joke that’s true.
brown averaged 7.9 pts 6.8 rbds in a very weak Bobcats team last year. He always was a bust, an average back up center.
The only good news is that this deal is only for 1 year… maybe they’ll use him in a S&T within two months.

JunkYardDogParticipantChandler got 58M on a 4 years deal, as Gasol, Jordan got 43M on a 4 years deal. Dalembert is going to steal around 10 M a year on a several years contract and nene is going to make between 60 and 70 M on a multiyear deal.
Centers are rare, and teams seem to forget they can play effectively with 2 big PF or develop undersized PF to become effective defensive centers (dorsey could be interesting….). All of those big men are overpaid, maybe except gasol (I love this player), and are paid like 2nd option or major contributors (for kwame), and they are not.
How the teams are gonna sign some FA or extend their RFA if they have no more room under the salary cap ?
I don’t think the salary cap is going to rise strongly or the luxury tax is going to disappear….

TallmanNYCParticipantIt is a big man’s game despite the guady stats that the guards put up. The Championship usually goes to the team with the better big man (Jordan teams being the exception).
But to think that K Brown gives you the "better" big man is kind of crazy this late in his career. I would totally just go with some decent power forwards and save my money over some of these signings.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantKwame has been 1 of the biggest busts in nba history..But if he had been a late 1st rounder or a 2nd round pick..Scouts will say he’s had a solid career…He does supply a team with rebounding, interior defense, shot blocking and maybe 8 to 12 pts..1 reason why he keeps getting signed is his post defense..People who really follow the game will tell you that..

Wavy BagelsParticipantMy true problem with Kwame Brown has not do with the fact he was picked so high and never met expectations, but he has such extremely small hands for a big man. always bothered me.

Sasha4MVPParticipantAnything is better than Biedrins.

TallmanNYCParticipantRudeboy, you may be right about Kwame’s post defense being the reason he stays in the game. But did you just say he supplies a team with shot blocking? That is the classic mistake of confusing a guy who should be able to block shots with being a guy who actually does block shots. Kwame has been in league for 10 years now and his stats have been pretty much the same all this time. He is averaging 0.6 blocks per game for his career and on a "Per 36 minute basis" still only 1.0 per game. The guy may be close to 7 feet, but he does not block shots. He never has and there is no reason to think that he ever will (his shot blocking was a little better early on in his career).
But the other stuff, I agree with you. He rebounds fine and he can score 10 points a game if you want to play him starter minutes. He plays good enough defense that opposing centers will only have good games against him not career-high type games. Apparently that is good enough for the Warriors to part with $7 million.

dmo21ParticipantI still think Biedrins is better than Kwame, yeah Biedrins got hurt and had a rough couple years, but there was a reason why he got his contract. He is very active and can rebound. He is really good at finishin around the net, but can’t shoot free throws at all. If he gets back to what he was a couple years ago, I see Kwame sitting on the bench with his 7 mil..

Wavy BagelsParticipantAnd what will become of Ekpe Udoh? Do you guys se him coming in for David Lee as the Backup 4 or playing either starter at 5 of backup at 5?

HitsterParticipantGSW were supposed to be in love with Udoh when they drafted him and he looked useful last season and assuming that David Lee will continue to start at PF, they tried to sign Jordan from LAC and have now splashed out for Kwarme Brown so where does that leave Udoh and even more what about Beidrins?
Udoh is only in his 2nd year but is 24 years old so needs playing time more than say a 20 year old like Derek Favours!
As regards the market, the big men are picking up nice deals and any thought of some of them going for MLE to a contender seems long gone. I’ll be interested to see who offers what for Nene now as he is the top FA still left IMO. David West for $20 million over 2 years now looks a nice deal for the Pacers.

TallmanNYCParticipantDavid West for $20 million over two years looks like a freaking bargain compared to the Kwame signing.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI don’t like the guy for being such a bust but I felt like the best situation for him as a basketball player is to stay with the Bobcats. Look at his stats, have you ever seen him grab 20 rebounds in one game had he been to Detroit? He posted very very solid numbers, 7.9 ppg and 6.8 rpg… I would have loved for him to play with Charlotte for a couple more years but I don’t think he could pass up a $7 million dollar contract. I don’t know if he’s gonna have the same success with the Warriors…

HitsterParticipantNo way would Kwarme pass over $7 million for a year after coming off veteran’s minimum. I say good luck to him if he can stay in the NBA, look at Kandi man who hung around for years and Darko who will have done 11 seasons when his current deal expires.
