pohani komaracParticipantby my opinion 7’0 PF from Latvia Kristaps Porzingis is bigest prospect at U-18 championship. Remeber that name, he might be prospect with bigest upside in whole europe since Dirk Nowitzki
At moment he does not dominate, but he is jet to cathch his age groupe in physical development. But Kid is amazing. Has shooting touch, athletic abilitys, handles ball amazing for height, has very good athletic abitys, has good understanding of game, grat shoot block timeing, lenght. Kid is just pure talent. Only thing questionable is his frame, but we will see how much he will get wider when his development is done. I can defentley see him being first pick oveall i 2-3 years
Great thing for him he plays for Spanish Cajasol and is coached by Aito, probably best coach in whole europe for young prospects

sportzryanParticipantFirst pick overall?!?!? No. Nobody from Europe will ever be the first pick overall. Never. Never never never. There are studs coming up every single year in high school that will be one-and-dones and the first pick of that draft. Sorry.

pohani komaracParticipantAndrea Bargnani was first pick. Also bogut from Australia wich parents imigrated from Croatia. S it’s not imposible
And you don’t need to get mad just because my opinion about potential of one kid

ChewyParticipantAlso, remember Nikoloz Tskitishvili? Just because your 7ft, Euro and can shoot does NOT mean you are like Dirk. It is insulting to him that 5-7 prospects a year are compared to him, he was special and had the mental toughness needed to compete day in and day out in the NBA.

pohani komaracParticipantAlso there was Gasol, Kukoc, Petrovic, Sabonis, Divac, Parker and so on
anway, I based my opinion on watching this kid, not on scouting reports or you tube hoopmixtapes where evrey kid looks like combination of Magic, Jordan, Bird and James
you can watch him from monday via live streams since they are broadcating host team games

sportzryanParticipantBogut isn’t European, he’s australian and he played college ball in the USA, so that’s WAY different. And Bargnani sucks, if you knew what it would turn out to be nobody would draft him #1 again. Tskitishvili, Vesely, Pecherov, virameenko, sundov, tsakalidis, rebraca, so many Euro players that come over and suck. I’ll put any amount of money on that kid porzingis NOT being drafted in the lottery at all, let alone #1.

pohani komaracParticipantbust rate of americans and europians are not much difrent.
I metnioned Bogut because he is international to you, anwy bout of his parents are from Croatia. He is first born Australian so he has conetion with europe. but I metnioned him as international
Anway, insted of just asuming and atacking people you can actally try discusing abotu basketball as well as watching it. We are in 21st cen. nd it’s not so hard to find some games of any kid so we can have normal discusion

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantJust because Bargnani sucks doesn’t mean he wasn’t a first overall pick. Regardless of how bad he is, you can’t change history, therefore your first comment is still wrong.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantGasol probably should have gone #1, over the three HS center prospects that year. And I don’t think it would have been too much of a shocker if he had been, he was a pretty damn good prospect.

tortueParticipantThis kid has serious upside. He has all the tools to be the great next Euro phenom, but he’s still raw offensively and lacks bulk. He already shows his talent in the defensive end where he is a natural elite rebounder/shotblocker.
I dont know if he ‘ll be a top pick in next drafts but with is length, quickness and fluidity he is NBA material for sure.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/22/2013 - 8:18am #824523

pohani komaracParticipantyeah, he needs polish his skills. but pretey much he has potential to do evrythin PF needs to do. Shoot, play p’n’r, face the basket or play with back to basket. Also just by geting stronger evrything will come easier for him. My bigest oncern is his ultra skiny frame wich eventually can limit his potential

thejanizParticipantI just saw this discussion about Kristaps. Its true, he is next BIG thing in Latvia basketball future. He now is better than Biedrins, when he was at his age. Decent defender with great timing and basketball IQ. Only minus for him is his frame, but he has only 18. People are growing till 21 years of age and than we can see how he can bulk up his body and dont loose his pluses.
And Durant also have weak frame, Prince, Bosh and so on, if we look on this players and who are guarding who. Not all can be LBJ or Howard, and no needed to be.
However this two national youngster teams u18 and u20(silver in Euro 2013) is full of talents and future is very bright for Latvia. After this championship he need to be in nba draft prospect TOP. He is better than Andris Biedrins in this age, and Biedrins was drafted 11th overall.
Here are video for Porzingis

pohani komaracParticipantI remeber Biedrins at same age. There was turament played in my former school gym. There were qute alot prospects there. Biedrins, Belineli, Petro, Tomic, Markoishvili and so on. Biedrins at that point was alredy quite strong with good athletic abilitys but with unpolished skills. If he was more serius he could have better carer
people can also check full game of today Latvia-Lithuania on fibaeuropetv. only needed registration, fibatv gives it for free
other nba itresting prospects Sabonis, Pesceniks and Smits in game

thejanizParticipantYeah, in Lithuania about Sabonis is hype for NBA draft, but today Porzingis owned Sabonis. And yeah, Smits is very close to be a force right now. He have frame and also brain. He coud be something, if offcourse work hard. And Pasecniks I compare with good shooter from range, but with weak defense and not much skill and atlethic. See how he progress in future.
Tomorow Latvia U18 vs Croatia U18 1/2 finals. Winner goes to finals. Turn on stream to see how good is Porzingis.

tortueParticipantHe reminds me young Pau Gasol and also Andrei Kirilenko. He’s better than Pau Gasol (who is a late bloomer) at the same age (but not better than Kirilenko).
To me he’s by far the best prospect of the tournament, even if there is a lot of potential (Sabonis, Sipahi, Inglis, Diop, Birsen…)0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/26/2013 - 11:45am #826110

thejanizParticipantLatvia lost yestrday to Croatia, and main things do refree for bad decisions late in game. However, today Latvia lost to Spain by 1point in game for 3rd place. Sad, very sad, but thats life.
Today Kristaps Porzingis was better game, but still not perfect. 11points, 15reb and 9block shots. Shooting wasnt a best today, but its normal.
He with Andzejs Pasecniks was voted to the championship All Star team 1. 😉
