I must say, I have been failry impressed with the way Kristaps has performed in summer league. I thought he may struggle because of the helter skelter pace of summer league and because I thought it may take him a while to adjust to the physicality of the NBA. However that has not been the case, while he isn’t physically strong, he displays toughness. He isn’t afraid to bang down low or attack the basket, as evidence in his ability to get to the FT line. One of the biggest problems for most European big men is that they too heavily rely on their jumpshot and therefore become one-dimensional, but so far Kristaps has avoided that and has really displayed his versatility. He has also surprised me with his passing ability, he finds cutters perfectly and doesn’t force passes that aren’t there. This is an extremely important attribute for big men in the triangle (Pau). His defense, another thing that has ailed european big men, has been excellent as well. He’s always active and he has such long arms that he’s a deterrent to guards at the rim. Although it is just summer league, I think Porzingas has played extremely well, and Phil Jackson and Knicks fans (Myself included) should be excited to what this kid can bring to the table.
