The8thDeadlySinParticipantAm I the only person impressed with Humprhies’ play during the preseason?? He has been aggressive on the boards. He has been able to score and he is defending with great intensity. He is cut like Howard and close to that same size. He could have a good year with Dallas’s lack of depth at the C position. What do you guys think? Is a good role player or just a bench guy?

MkadozaParticipantI say “yet to be seen”. I think we have to wait till the season starts to see how he will get utilized. He has been a player people have been waiting for to step and capitalize on his talent. I don’t see him as a full time center at all, Gooden will probably get the majority of minutes there, but at 6’9″ 240 with good athleticism, he’s worth a shot, especially given how perimeter oriented their other bigs are (Nowitzki, Tim Thomas).

doubledribblerParticipantAgree with Mkadoza. It’s to be determined. He has a lot of ability. I remember thinking he would be a beast coming out of Minnesota, but I think he got off to the wrong foot in Utah, plus they already had Boozer and Kirilenko ahead of him, then he goes to Toronto where he has Bosh and the #1 overall pick later come in front of him, as well as a few freak injuries. I think he can play, but I don’t know if he’s always put in the work that needed to be done. If he can keep up what people have seen in the pre-season, then he is going to really threaten for some playing time. The Mavs seem to do really good with the players that they nab for cheap (i.e., Barea, Bass, Singleton). I also think that it will be big having Carlisle as coach because he will make sure the kid gets a fair chance.

simos15Participantbig raptors fan here and a big fan of hump. Everytime he was on the floor he was agressive, active and productive. He just needs consistant minutes.
I would always complain about him not getting anytime especially considering the raptors were very weak on the boards.

JNixonParticipantHe’s a bench player to me. He has been impressive though this preseason and he’s a decent talent. I thought he was going to be good for the Gophers too in college, esp. when I saw him not look out of place in the Mickey D’s game in HS (he was in the 2003 class with Lebron I believe). But he’s a little too stiff on offense to be more than a role player, he’s a good grinder to unleash from the bench though.

rtbtParticipantDon’t believe the listed height for Humphries on the Dallas roster page which is 6 ft. 9. He’s much closer to 6 ft 7 and he has short arms, which limits his productivity. I always say there are a number of guys in the NBA who are glued to the bench on certain teams, but if given a full opportunity elsewhere, would do very well. Unfortunately I don’t think Humphries is one of them.
I hope I’m wrong, he’s still only 24, and maybe he will become a very productive player. But something tells me he’s nothing more than a minor role player.

D HampParticipantIt’s about time he started producing. He left Minnesota after his freshmen year and seemed lost. This shouldn’t surpise anyone, but let’s hope he keeps it up.
You say D Hamp isn’t the greatest mind. Cool, no prob! Challenge me by making your predictions for the season. 1-8 playoff teams in both conferences, MVP, ROY, DPOY, Sixth man of the year, coach of the year, comeback player, top 10 scores, rebounds, etc. This will prove who has the most knowledge on the site. Much love to everyone. I’ll post mine next Monday.
Let’s make the final entry day on Monday before the season starts. I’ll keep posting this. Note: Let’s keep this all in fun.
Dhamp…the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI wanted to bring this up to the top of the Forum page because I am rooting for this guy to do well. He has played 11 game with the Nets and is looking pretty good. Is it because he is playing with the Nets is the it because he is getting the minutes…
Here are some of his performances…
vs Pacers – 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and 27 minutes…
vs Clippers – 21 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, and 28 minutes…
vs Clippers again – 25, 8 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, and 30 minutes…
vs Detroit – 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 24 minutes..
vs Raptors yesterday – 13 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block, and 26 minutes…That is 5 out of 11 games that were pretty darn strong. He has also had a few more games where he flirted with a double double…
What do you think of him?? Same opinions or has something changed?

OhCanada-ParticipantHes the 2nd best player on that Nets team, which isnt saying much. Lopez is good but he is overutilized and overhyped.
