"Kobe!"
If someone I'm guarding does that on the playground or the gym, I usually start calling them that player's name after they miss. It's even better when someone says a player's name and you get a piece of their shot. I'm not a big trash talker, but for some reason that bugs me if I'm guarding that player.
I don't talk smack at all. I just communicate with my teammates, don't say a damn word to the other squad. I just give them a smile when I start goin off. Other than that, I just stay focused. Watching game footage, I swear I look possessed. My opponent could be talkin a ton of shit and I probably wouldn't even notice. Audio is damn near tuned out for me while I play, as if I am in a trance.
When I'm pulling up in front of a guy from deep I'll say Jimmer! But otherwise I won't say too much. Unless if I go post up and do a Dirk post move. Then I say Dirk.
But like what JoeWolf said, it bugs me when people start getting ahead of themselves on the other team. I played against a kid who was average at best. He made a layup because nobody really cared about the game (it was some like spring AAU warm up kinda thing). So the next time down the court I did a pull up, full elevation shot right over him, looked at him, shrugged and ran down the court. He tried one upping me and I swatted him when he tried shooting from three. As the ball went out of bounds I couldn't help myself but say "I thought nobody could stop you boy?" Kid damn near lost his mind and was just about to run after me and start a fight haha.
If I blow by someone for a layup I'll usually grin at a team-mate and say "Excuse me, I'll be back in a minute", because that's the call Mark Jackson made when Rondo did that in the first NBA game I watched in recent times and it's become an inside joke. Oh and in the same vein, if I make a really nice pass I'll say "I'm Rondo, I'm making plays", which is also Mark Jackson from the same game/play.
I'll talk smack if it's a hard fought game and they start first, but I usually keep it moderate.
Ever since Carmelo got traded to NY, "Melo!!" has been a popular one in my area
Theres this one guy, hes hilarious...he always yells out the most random and irrelevant players. Hes takes a 3-pointer, he yells something retarded like "Varejao!", and he'll drive to the rim with force and yell "Korver!"
In all honesty, when i really get going and start locking in defensively, i become an extreme shit talker. I'm kinda like KG in that sense that I try to truely demorralize and opponent. It's messed up I know, but I'm aggressive and extremely competetive. I've actually gotten into a few fights over this during my tenure of bball. Although offensively I start slowly staying fairly quite until I drain a few jumpers, then I start getting a bounce to my ste and start bobbin my head. I get my Kobe swag going. It's funny really, because for the longest time I didn't even realize I do it.
Otherwise, when I'm just messin around shootin jumpers with the friends or doin post moves, I'll just mimic a players shot and yell out whateve player I'm copying.
@MagikKnick
Lmao... There's a guy like that where I hoop too. Seems to be at least one of those type of dudes in every gym lol.
Everytime I go to the public playground to play some ball, there's always someone that shouts a pro-baller's name while perfoming a jumpshot, "Kobe!" being infamously one of them. Others are creative with it and use words like "Bang! Bang!" and "JAAAM!". In an attempt to differ from what everone else shouts, I say "Dirk!" because nobody would dare say "Dirk!" in the "hood", I have a mean jumper, and just in plain respect of the Finals MVP. Anyone does the same (shouts a player's name)? If so, what do you shout? Is there a motive behind it?
