The8thDeadlySinParticipantWhen Davis is healty and the Knicks are looking to make a playoff push, who is the starting PG???
Baron Davis
or
Toney Douglas
Baron is going to be a fantastic passer and provide a vetran voice.
Douglas is going to be a great defender and a streaky scorer, who, when he is hot, can carry the team.
Who would you pick?

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantBaron Davis should be the starter for the reasons you said and that Douglas is not really a point guard. Even though Davis is the starter I still think that they should get about equal minutes.

F_DA_POParticipantteam is going nowhere with baron at starting pg

NYCrealdealParticipantis showing why he is not the starter each and every game he starts. even tho weve only seen him play one and 1/2 games all he does is dribble up and give it to melo. he never drives to the hoop and spots up at the 3 pt line. baron should be the starter right wen he gets healthy which will help our bench aswell as tony b/c it gives him his role where he feels good. he can come of the bench play d and score the ball. less pressure on tony = better performance by him.

F_DA_POParticipantwhoever negged me won’t be here when the knicks get eliminated in the first round again… smh…

Knicksboy42ParticipantI honestly think by the time Baron comes back, The Knicks will be shopping Douglas for a 2nd rounder, or a big. He’s playing like Baron is right behind him ready, he can’t control a offense, AT ALL.
With Baron,Landry,Shumpert, Walker, Bibby/Lin, I think the Knicks will look to run with that. I don’t think that’s a monster backcourt, but it will do. The Knicks do have a great, arguably best frontcourt in the league so I think once we go into the playoffs, we should be able to win a first round series as a potential top four seed.

JNixonParticipantIm pretty sure Hellen Keller has better floor vision than Toney Douglas man.

surveParticipantJeremy Lin

Charlie SheenParticipantToney Douglas is not a Point Guard at any level of basketball he’s a bigger Nate Robinson with no hopes(I did not mean hops I meant hopes)
Trade Fields and Douglas + a 1st for OJ Mayo
Sign Kenyon Martin
PG- Davis/Bibby/Lin
SG- Mayo/Shumpert/Walker
SF- Anthony/Balkman
PF- Stoudemire/Martin/Jeffries/Novak
C- Chandler/Jordan/Harrellson

NYK2010ParticipantBaron Davis easily is the starter over Douglas.
No 1sts available to trade becaz of Nba rule, the trade 2 yrs ago and Mello trade.

NYCrealdealParticipantif you think knicks arnt getting anywhere with davis as the pg…they def aint getting anywhere with TD at the pg position.

Future_Scoutwith so many decent pg’s the knicks have none. as a heat fan i tell you. MIKE BIBBY sucks. baron davis is a gunner who doesn’t play winning basketball and can only throw lobs to amare. they should trade for eric bledsoe or mo williams. i dont think the knicks make it far with those pg’s and melo being far from being able to run a pick and roll with amare that doesn’t end up in a pull jumper

Yo mammaParticipantA guy walks into a bar. Bartender asks, "how’s it going?"
Okay, I guess. Holding my own.
"That’s good." replied the bartender. "You’d get arrested if you held someone else’s."

NYK2010ParticipantGood stuff
Baron Davis will miss a minimum of the next 14 games to 29 games.
He does average 7.3 asts in his career so he can obviously pass the ball.
Also he’s shot attempts have dropped evey year since 07-08 so thats a good thing.
If he’s healthy and pushes the ball up the court the Knicks do have athletic players who can finish and shoot.

delfamParticipantwhy not Shumpert when he comes back, he looked pretty good against the Celtics, or is he more of a SG?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 4:36am #619238
hubhubParticipantI would just pack douglas and fields and trade them when baron is healthy because a backcourt with douglas and fields starting is a dead end for the knicks. douglas cant distribute, cant play the pick and roll well and he is very streaky with his shot. In my perfect scenario when Baron gets healthy and in shape they could trade for a Mayo type of guy as said. Memphis isnt probably especially high on him as they wanted do trade him for McRoberts. Maybe they could get Nick Young as Wizards are so hign on Crawford and they want to start him or either a package of Parker and Varejao from Cleveland. That would add a good shooter and a defender to the backourt and the needed depth on the center spot because as we can see Harellson isnt ready yet to contribute.

delfamParticipant^ Can’t trade Fields, with Carmelo and Amare taking all the shots Fields is the glue that holds that team together, he does all the little things.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 5:06am #619249
hubhubParticipantI know that fields does what he should do but dont you think that a more consistent outside scorer an no worse defender whould fit better to amare carmelo and baron?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 5:24am #619251
delfamParticipant^ you don’t need any more scoring, every team needs role players if they’re going to win a championship and for the Knicks Fields fits his role perfectly.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 5:36am #619256
hubhubParticipantI know that and i also like fields but i think that baron + outside shooter (mayo, young, parker)would give the knicks more than douglas+ fields
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 5:52am #619263
delfamParticipant^ they already have Baron, and Fields is a better fit than Mayo
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 6:06am #619269
hubhubParticipantIts your. Yes they have melo and amare but they need a 3rd option maybe coming from the bench to provide some scoring because they suck when amare and melo are on the bench.

HarbingerI have been a Shumpert fan since he played with Favors hes a big point gaurd who does it all in fits in with the jack of all trades back court partner Feilds. The knick are there own blame for not having a good team already they passed on Stephenson and Jennings for 2 players that are not even on the team anymore. If the knicks wanted to trade for Mayo I wouldnt give up much the griz do not value Mayo if they were willing to trade him for Mcroberts.
Douglas has no floor leadership only reason he plays point is because of his size for Baron its now or never.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 12/29/2011 - 9:11am #619320
surveParticipantShumpert probably has the right to start as anyone else at PG, but he is still more of a SG to me, his PG skills just dont seem up to par yet. Regardless, he probably would be better at PG than anyone outside a healthy motivated Davis. Douglas is not a PG, Bibby is a SHELL of his former self, and Lin is more of a bench guy.

hubhubParticipantLets wait till Baron gets healthy. It will clarify the situation and will make the discussion more essential. After to 2games I can say that the knicks need a point guard which can distribute the ball better and play the pick and roll better. A backup for Chandler because he will often be in foul trouble and the third think, which is a little bit more controversial is a sg with a better outside shoot than walker and fields. good defense from the potential sg will be needed as well.

NCarmean18ParticipantI’d have to go with Baron Davis…
The guy is a leader on the court, something the Knicks could use beside their young superstars. Baron will probably be both a better scorer and passer than Toney Douglas, so I say start Davis and Fields and bring Douglas and Shumpert off of the bench.
In the end you’d have a solid rotation of guards led by a guy who knows how to play the game and can teach these younger guys (Shumpert especially) how to play the game, correctly.

HarbingerJust maybe….the answer to the knicks problem is signing Raymond Felton back at the end of the year I would do whatever it takes to get him back.He was the starting point gaurd on an above 500 knicks team and the chemistry he and Amare had was great. Deron is leaving the nets so there will be 2 big pgs on the market in Deron and Raymond Felton if they can convice and pry him away from the blazers he was pretty upset to hear he was traded.
Baron is not there future pg.

NYK2010ParticipantToo bad the Knicks are capped out and have nothing to trade unless they want Toney Douglas, Landry Fields.
They should’ve never gave up all that for Mello even if he is a great scorer.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 12/31/2011 - 12:29pm #620139
Malik-UniversalParticipantonce davis gets healthy… they need to start him…
douglas is a scorer at heart, and shumpert isnt ready to take the reign
the knicks lack toughness imo
