I think the knicks should re-sign Shawne Williams and Derrick Brown.

    • Williams proved he can be a solid role player coming off the bench last year. He has good length which makes him a decent defender. He is also a good 3 point shooter.
    • Brown is a talented, well built, inexpensive young player. He is an inexpensive gamble who could crack the rotation if he stays healthy.

Free agents we should try to sign are:

    • Chuck Hayes. Hayes is a great tenacious rebounder and a hounding defender. He is undersized but his tenacity and hustle make up for it. He would fit well between Amare and Melo because he doesnt take the ball out of their hands but complements them with his strong rebounding. He can also help keep Amare out of foul trouble. He should also be able to be signed relatively cheaply.
    • Joel Pryzbilla. Pryzbilla is a decent role playing center. He isnt a huge liability in any aspect of the game. He is a solid defender, good rebounder, has good size. He should also have a good price tag.
    • Josh Howard. The knicks already have 2 potential packed young SG’s in Fields and Shumpert but they would be smart to add a veteran to the backcourt. Howard may have fallen out peoples minds in Washington and we could get him for cheap since hes on the back 9 of his career.
    • Micheal Redd. Same reasons as Josh Howard and hes a better shooter.
    • Carlos Arroyo. Carlos has sometimes struggled to find a place in the league. He could be a nice safety net for the Knicks if Chauncey gets hurt. Toney Douglas can play some point guard but he excels off the ball and obviously cant be the only backup PG

Good, realistic suggestions. I’m really looking forward to seeing Shumpert play in this system. I think he’ll be getting a lot crunch time minutes and become a great player who may not be great at just one thing but does all the little things out there. Another center the Knicks could look to pursue is Robin Lopez (who I think is out of the Suns system as Gortat has that spot on lock down). Lopez would be a good addition via a trade.

@I May Be Wrong; would you consider trading Shumpert for Lopez? Iman could really excel in Phoenix’s up and down style and need an athletic young player to start their rebuild around. Having a starting C like Lopez might be more valuable to the Knicks than Shumpert. What are your thoughts?

I wouldnt trade for Lopez. The Knicks really need a banger in the paint. Lopez doesnt fit the bill. I definitely wouldnt trade Shumpert for him since we dont know his ceiling yet.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to trade Iman if I’m the Knicks. You’re going to have to wait him out. I was thinking Lopez for someone like Bill Walker, who wouldn’t be a bad pick up for the Suns since they should be going in rebuilding mode. Keep Walker for a year and let him get stats but then look to draft a 2 guard or wing in the 2012 draft.

I view Lopez’s trade value at a low but at this point, the Knicks need as many bigs as they can. Anyone is better than having an undersized Ronny Turiaf and Jared Jeffries trying to help out Amare. Lopez, DeAndre Jordan, Chuck Hayes, Pryzbilla all would improvements IMO.

Jeff foster, reggie evans should be added to the list(as the elite rebounders and tough guys they are), even kwame brown, that’s not fair when the tallest guy in a team is a 220 pounder ala jared jeffries…

A PG able to run a f***in’ pick and roll with STAT.

    A shooter.

A back up PF able to put some points when you rest stat(craig smith ?).

    K-mart would have been great.

Spencer Hawes for his shooting ability from long range, Kwame Brown because he actually would play nicely beside of Amare (he’s actually a pretty good defender), Sebastien Telfair to back-up the point guard spot back in NYC could help get him back on track to a good career. Finally add a good two-way guard who can hit the long ball preferably an Anthony Parker type.

Sammy Dalembert’s D next to Amare would be a nice addition.  Dalembert can run the floor as well and is a better shooter than many realize.  Used to love watching him in Philly.
