MelParticipantIsiah Thomas set the franchise back 10 years. But before him, Dolan had already set the Knicks back by giving a jump shooter $100 million.
Traded Camby and 1st Rd Pick (Nene) for McDyess.
Could have just drafted Amare in 2002.
Brandon Jennings was available when they wanted Curry so bad. Jordan Hill, really?
All those ridiculous contracts that Walsh had to get rid of for two or three years in HOPES of LeBron.
You get better through wise drafting. Isiah gave those away like the charitable man he is, TWO 1st rd picks for Eddy Curry.
When will it end?

OhCanada-ParticipantThe teams really not that bad right now. They just havent clicked, and have no interior presence. Like the Raptors of old days really. Its also New York so Id say when they hunt down that restricted FA C (Gasol) they probally have the best chance of getting him. Add a lottery pick and maybe even Carmelo Anthony if dreams come true and you have a deep playoff team.
Scenerios are scenerious, but even if they get Gasol and no Melo they will be good.
If the Knicks get a higher pick then the Raps through the draft lottery or just losses im gonna be extremely pissed.

OhCanada-ParticipantBTW the Rockets wont be a Top 10 lottery pick this year so everyone needs to stop that. They have started off slow and horribly but recently won 2 in a row. We all know the talent this team has and we all know they arent that bad. So stop it.

JoeWolf1I’m not an Isaiah fan as a GM, and I agree with you as far as him really setting back the Knicks
The 2009 draft for them as far as pick wise isn’t that bad in retrospect thought. They still got Tony Douglas and you look at their roster now and IMO Ray Felton is a better point guard than Brandon Jennings.
I think their biggest mistake from the 09 draft wasn’t drafting Hill, I think he is going to be a very solid player, but it was getting so little in return for him. I get he didn’t mesh with D’Antoni, but to get a post prime T-Mac who is only gonna stick around half a season and a role player in Sergio who bolted for Spain for the #8 pick is a highway robbery.

OhCanada-ParticipantLol JoeWolf, when you break it down thats exactly what they got. They also traded away the rights to their 2011 pick which is proving to be a valueable asset as well, possibly more valueable then Hill. I think Houston is going to finish with a 12th to 18th selection, somewhere in that range.

JoeWolf1I know, man, lol, I agree with you on Houston. No way they are done yet, they lost by close margains to good teams (for the most part) to start the year and now coming off 2 road wins in a row, I don’t think they’re gonna be a bottom dweller by any means. They look better on paper, but I think they’ll be about where they were or maybe a couple games higher than they were last year.

MelParticipant2009 wasnt their biggest mistake, but i feel it was another mistake. Trading away all those picks combined with the lopsided salaries are what killed the Knicks.
I feel you should NEVER give two 1st rd picks for one player unless he is top 5 and still relatively young.
Eddy Curry had one decent season. Not great, not even all that good. He has never rebounded or cared to win and he, to me, is the player behind this whole mess.
Man, Isiah did so much dumb sh*t, it’s all coming back to me as I type. Jerome James?
Right now, the Knicks are OK. D’Antoni isnt a championship coach. Amare doesnt defend like he needs to and the knicks dont have a prototypical athletic 2 guard that complements Amare down low. The only way I see the Knicks getting better is through drafting but with the team they have now, they wont be terrible enough to get a #1 pick.

MelParticipantThe Knicks need a Perkins type, tough, nasty defense and Size. And a consistent scorer from the wing that commands attention.

JoeWolf1Well, I know this as a Bulls fan, that Joakim Noah was an Eddie Curry pick.
Eddie put up 18-20 ppg in his prime, but I remember not liking him very much because he had no rebounding skills and a questionable work ethic ( always over weight ). I always liked Tyson Chandler more because he atleast hit the boards and did the dirty work. There were caution flags all around Curry, but NY either didn’t see them or were too busy drooling over a 7 footer who could drop 18-20 a night.

BasterdInABasketParticipantAfter they fail to get Melo or Paul, theyll give Horford a max contract and suck for another 10 years.

NYK2010Participant"Let’s go back to the start of the decade which was 1999-2000. The Knicks finished in 2nd place with a 50-32 record and lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers. After the season is when everything went wrong for the New York Knicks. In Scott Layden’s first big move he goes out and signs Latrell Sprewell to a monster contract. Then he goes out and makes the trade which ultimately started everything going downhill. Instead of letting Patrick Ewing contract expire Layden traded him, Chris Dudley, 2001 1st Rd Pick, a 2002 1st Rd pick and 2 2001 second round picks for Glen Rice (who did nothing), Travis Knight, and Luc Longley. Then in the draft he drafts Donnell Harvey which he immediate trades with John Wallace for Erick Strickland. He also overpays for Kurt Thomas."
Anyhow Allan Housont’s contract wasn’t the main problem they had some other terrible contracts with Eisley, Shannon Anderson. Why do you think Jeff Van Gundy quit during the 01-02 season he saw where the team was headed. I wouldn’t say Isiah put the franchise back 10 years back he started in the middle of 2004 and Walsh fixed a lot of the teams mess in 2 yrs at least cap wise. Don’t forget Layden and Checketts ruined the team plenty not sure if you guys followed the Knicks closely around that time. Yeah Isiah’s stupid trades and free agent signing were awful I’m not making any excuses for him but a lot of the blame goes to the owner too for giving him freedom to make all these moves. Even his draft picks were overrated Nate, Chandler, Lee nice players. Now we learn that Isiah didn’t even want to draft Lee it was someone else in the Knicks org. All those bad contracts would eventually expire and we’ve seen now that its not impossible to move long term contracts. He isn’t to blame for the the 08, 09, 11, 12 players drafted or picks traded. Wow this team has a history of trading picks away no wonder they’ve been awful for so long.
The Rockets will improve from what the’ve shown so far but its doubtful they’ll be elite. Brad Miller isn’t that good and the West Conf. is still very strong. Not jumping ship on the whole Knicks season just yet becaz there are plenty of bad teams in the East. Still they need to turn things around on this road trip or things could get ugly fast. Also Felton might be better than Jennings but we got nothing out of that draft and could’ve had a PG on a rookie contract for 4 or 5 yrs. Also noteworthy D’antoni has a 4 year contract this is year 3 so he needs to get his act together becaz sooner or later they’ll have a new GM who probably won’t be as patient as Walsh. Knicks GMs of the modern era have all drafted poorly started with Enrie Grunfeld 89-99, Layden 99-03, Isiah 04-08, Walsh 08-Present.
Knicks salary through the years
97-98 54 million
98-99 60 million

CodySLCParticipantI really dont think that Knicks are that bad. I think they can be a playoff team if they can pull it together. They are missing a true quality center, and an consistent perimeter scoring threat. A guy who can get you 20 + along with Amare. Chandler and Gallinari are both nice 3 options, but i dont think their that guy.
