Ok someone please explain to me what in the world the Kings are doing?? I know this is the site’s most frequent question but now, I think they are even confusing themselves.

Obviously they addressed what they thought were their 2 biggest needs (wing and big) in the draft by drafting Richardson, Papa and Skal even if they already had Koufus and WCS.

However, this free agency, rather than complete their roster, they created a huge logjam at the wings. They sign Afflalo, Temple (what???) and Barnes but let their 2 pgs walk in Curry and Rondo. Now Collison literally is their only PG while Mclemore, Richardson, Afflalo, Temple, Gay, Butler and Cassipi all fight PT for 2 spots. Why didnt they just draft baldwin when they traded down if their plan all along was to let their 2 point guards walk?

There are gonna be a loot of unhappy players in that roster fighting for a spot in the rotation with the logjams Divac has created. The only upside is that Joerger seems like a coach that demands respect, and who is somone Cousins possible could get along with.

Seems like Gay will be traded away for a guard. Rumours about Ellis. But I was thinking, why not Rubio? Gay would be a good fit next to Wiggins. I am not pro to trading Rubio and giving Dunn the reigns, but this could be a plausible trade if they choose to do so.

I think they should go after Greg Monroe. No quality FA will even think about going to Sac, how are they going to get good players ? Milwaukee just want to get rid of him and his contract so a salary dump to the Kings could get him cheap.

Monroe is a good player. He is not a shot blocking centre, he is a PF. He is not a bad defender, checking the boxscore for blocks is not a good way of determining a players defensive skills.

He is a team player, good rebounder and passer. Good IQ, he is a good teammate both on and off the court – Kings need players like this !!!

Monroe was unlucky not to make the all-star game a few seasons ago. He was only brought off the bench behind Josh Smith to increase Smith’s trade value….

I remember a few seasons ago I did a Horford vs Monroe thread, Horford just had the slight edge on Monroe. Horford just got a approx. $30mill contract so Monroes $17mill isn’t that bad at all….

They are the worst run franchise in the NBA. It’s unfair to Kings fans. That arena use to be the best home court in the NBA with bibby peja and c webb

The franchise is so messed up that it wouldn’t surprise me if they traded for Ellis with the idea of having him as the starting PG.

As a Kings fan I tend to remain calm and try to determine what rationale there may be. After I calmed down from the draft I took some time to see how the picks made sense, and I did a solid job of rationalizing the draft. Then they signed Afflalo, great job (especially for their standards).

Then comes Tolliver 2 years/16M for a guy who really shouldn’t crack the 4 or 5 positions with the roster as it is. He brings a different dimension, but you can’t play everyone. Then Temple 3 yrs/24M for a guy that shouldn’t crack the 2 spot with the roster as is. Then they rescind the restricted status for Curry who can play the one position they need most, PG. So now PG is manned by a guy who may miss a nice portion of the season after being arrested for domestic violence and a rookie who was the second to last pick in the draft after playing 1 year of pg in college.

Then I see Trey Burke gets traded for a 2nd round pick in 5 years! If you need a pg as badly as the Kings how do you not know this is going to happen and get Burke? Honestly I think this was their biggest mistake. If they get Burke all the other signings are just depth. Too much depth, IMO, I want an 8 man rotation with 2-3 guys for injuries and foul trouble and 1-2 guys I hope only play during blowouts.

    5 Cousins, Papagiannis, Labisierre

    4 WCS, Koufos, Tolliver

    3 Gay, Casspi, Barnes, Butler

    2 Afflalo, Mclemore, Richardson, Temple

    1 Collison, I Cousins

12 active on a roster so Skal, Papa and Richardson to D league? They’re not talented enough to send all of their 1st round picks to the D league.

Trade Gay and McLemore for what? Shabazz and Rubio? I only trade Gay as a package to get a better SF or really good pg. I don’t see that happening. What pg could they get for that package? Honestly with the lineup the way it is I wouldn’t trade Gay for Rubio, I would go sign Ty Lawson and keep Gay.

Supposedly they told Butler they were going to trade him at the deadline. Then didn’t. Then he took his option which is surprising. IDK what goes on over there!

I’m sure there will be trades but it will almost seem like trading for the sake of trading. They set themselves up to get fleeced just to create a roster that makes sense, vs utilizing free agency to fill it out.

I’d imagine the rookies all go to the DLeague and they start Collison, Afflalo, Barnes, Gay and Cousins.  It’s Sacramento. No decisions should surprise.

Why do fans think free agency is the end-all-be all?  Trades can still happen and for small market teams, this is what is important.  Big names don’t go to small market teams.

What the Kings did was make minor moves and hope to address the larger issues through trade.  Most of the guys they signed are only partially guaranteed for next season.  This is important because the 2016 free agent class is much weaker compared to the 2017 free agent class.  So, while teams are handing out 4 year deals to role players using monopoly money, Kings are gearing up for the 2017 free agent class where they can outbid these dumb teams that signed mediocre, role players to long term contracts.

It’s never good to spend money to simply spend money.  It’s even worse to spend money on mediocre talents just for the sake of spending.

The thing about Baldwin is that the Kings worked him out, but weren’t impressed with him.  End of story.  Should they draft a guy because he was high in the mock draft?

Are these Kings threads genuine interest or bullying?

Team was picking best player available in draft – nothing to see

Collison is the team’s best PG, will start, is the best fit with Cousins, and the team had a dominant 2015 starting unit with him

There are such thing as trades, and Koufos and Gay and others are rumored on the market

This has dragged on long enough. Just pull the trigger and get some picks and prospects. Get a good pick in next years loaded class with their own pick. Look to the future at this point.
