Allen_Iverson_3ParticipantHere’s the link:
http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2012/03/kings-buy-out-jj-hickson.html
I don’t really understand why they actually made this move… I just know that they wanted to offload him at the trade deadline but this didn’t happen.

hubhubParticipantLakers should go for him, for sure.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:05am #649041
HitsterParticipantHe’d be a nice pick up for a lot of teams, the Lakers just got Jordan Hill so would they want another big and a few teams could wait to see what happens with Chris Kaman.
I’d assume that a team could look to tie him up to a long term contract if they had cap space?

Dale WorthingtonParticipantCome to the C’s.

TomShoeParticipantA gif to remember him.

The8thDeadlySinParticipant76ers and the Hawks could use him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:21am #649047
sheltwon3ParticipantWhy did the Kings trade for him again. That move is even more confusing now but maybe it was to light a fire under Jason Thompson.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:28am #649050
HaleParticipantI remember being really high on him coming out of college. His numbers were pretty good last year, but he really hasn’t put it all together like I had hoped.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:28am #649051
Dmarc23ParticipantDude is a bum.. could be a good Back up but he’ll will never be starter in the league,
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:44am #649056
myers3425ParticipantI could see the Heat making a play for him they really need a Center but I remeber him and Bron were tight in Cleveland and could see Bron making a big push to get miami to sign him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:45am #649055
d-ravParticipantMaybe the Suns could make a play for him. Remember that ongoing rumour couple years back when they offered Amare for him (or something like that)?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:02pm #649061
torukParticipantI would try to go to a contender and win a ring with a one year contract. I would give a look at the heat, bulls, lakers and thunder and try to help them. If hickson brings energy and scoring from the bench and he helped any of this teams make a title run next year, when he becomes a free agent he would get big offers just like ariza did after winning a title with the lakers.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:03pm #649064
F_DA_POParticipantwho says a contender even wants hickson? He’s a big man who shoots 37% from the field. That’s pathetic considering he probably never takes a shot outside of 15 feet. He can get rebounds decently, but so can every other 6’9 athletic big man in the NBA. I don’t think he’s much of a presence on defense.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:15pm #649068
Da1potParticipantWizards should take a chance on him and let him back up Trevor Booker. Problem with Hickson is that he plays like a center when he is only 6’8 ish and he is only shooting 37% from the field due to his lack of a go-to move and overall offensive polish. He is also a very poor defender. He does average 5.1 rpg in only 18 mpg though and he does have a lot of potential. I think he will be picked up by the Bobcats or the Wizards.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:16pm #649069
TyroberParticipantCould have easily got a 2nd round pick for him if they were just planning on cutting him. His value isn’t as high as it was but he is a solid player.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:21pm #649071
B FreeParticipantIn that Pheonix trade it was when LeBron was asking for help and they almost sent Hickson and Zydrunus and a pick for Amare
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:24pm #649075
torukParticipantHe is just a solid player, he is a good finisher at the rim but he needs someone to create the shots for him, the kings had no facilitator that`s the biggest reason he had a poor shooting season. But at a contender he would be playing off some great players and he would easier shots and less atention. He woul play a role similar to haslem, but he is way more athletic and a worse shooter and defender.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:39pm #649077
BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt really isn’t a good career move for the relatively unskilled players of the league to fall out of shape. He packed on some weight during the lockout, and there went his season.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 12:58pm #649083
YurpleHazEParticipantI have no clue why he was on there roster for this long…he obviously was a bad fit and didn’t want to be there…..I’d like to see him with the wiz though him and wall would be nice running mates….
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 1:12pm #649089
Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantAnd to think, he’s the reason LeBron left the Cavaliers. If only Dan Gilbert would have traded him for Stoudemire, LeBron would have never left the Cavs. Instead, they went after Antawn Jamison…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 1:19pm #649093
TRC1991Participantwhat about the Nets? they could use some size off the bench. and as BTPH said, the likelihood of a contender wanting a fat poor-shooting backup PF is unlikely
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 1:43pm #649099
boffacheeriosParticipantthis guy has the worst hands I’ve ever seen. In sacramento we called him JJ "Iron skillet hands" Hickson.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 2:44pm #649121
OllstarParticipantSo if your JJ you goto a contender to get shit minutes on a contract year? Are you kidding? Go somewhere with a good system and PT. He needs to prove in 20 games he can still play if he hopes of getting a good deal this summer.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 3:28pm #649138
TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantHe doesnt understand spacing or what a good shot is. He was in a bad situation in Sac, because he is in a contract year playing on a team how full of other gunner’s that didnt have a real true pg until Isiah Thomas and he like to shoot a lot to. Byron Scott used to hate him last year in Cleveland because his "good" basketball instincts are non exsistent. He has good athletism, almost great. He was asking for a 8 mil a year deal in Cleveland after this year hell either get a one year deal or someone will low ball him for like 3 years 9 mil total. He used to drive a Lambo here in Cleveland, if it was rented its going back now. He is one of those guys that f’s up on a blown assignment or boxout then runs back shaking his head, like he doesnt know what happened. He was developing a 15 foot jumper and was on his way to good things and now he get cut basically. This year cost him making maybe 6 a year offer to like less than a mil, That sh!t cray. He was one of the guys that was cool with Lebron though so the Heat are a option. Really anybody is a option because he’s better than the 12th guy on every team, it odd though that that wasnt true for one of the worse teams in the league.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 3:31pm #649141
TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantwith him somehow pissing off DeMarcus Cousins. Some how some way.
As a sidebar it was rumored around town JJ was a big w33d blower, like a grand a week w33d blower. i bet he was loving Cali, look for him to stay in that area.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 3:51pm #649145
surveParticipantThe Kings were really high on him. They thought he would develop for them. He lacks focus and consistency though. Part of his problem in Cleveland was he didnt always rebound like he should have. Also, as mentioned above, not in the best of shape.
I totally, 110% agree with TC. The Nets is usually a place where good rebounders blossom. Hickson is a great hustle player too. I dont think a contender wants him. He is better with a losing team like the Nets or the Wiz, so he can prove his worth.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 4:16pm #649154
TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantCome on man he was really "high" on the Kings also!!!
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 4:22pm #649156
surveParticipantlol, I didnt know he was blazing like that.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 4:24pm #649157
FritzParticipantBobcats should pick him up. He’s from NC State and I think he is an upgrade over DJ white and would consistently see minutes to develop his game. Why would he go to the Bulls? Hes not going to see a minute with their deep front court rotation. If Im Hickson, I want to go to a place where I can get minutes and establish and develop myself as a player. He could be starting on the Bobcats and be part of their young core going forward. Not to mention he will have plenty of hometown fans.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 4:48pm #649159
ChrispyParticipantReally?
DJ White = 19 minutes 7.3 pts, 4 rbs, 51% shooting
Hickson= 18.4 minutes and 4.7 pts, 5 rbs, 37% shooting
I’ll take DJ, brother.

RUDEBOY_Participantsomeone said cj leslie is a smaller version of jj hickson….cj wouldve loved that comparision 2 years ago,but not now when he stock is going up…..
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:18pm #649191
hoodwinkParticipantTo say he was out of shape is erroneous. He came into the year in solid shape.
But why he was let go is a combination of a couple reasons.
1) He did not want to be there. Several weeks ago while the Kings were in Cleveland, Hickson made comments to local media that he had regrets about being in Sacramento and would have preferred to stay a Cavalier. Hickson even told CowbellKingdom last night that he didn’t see eye-to-eye with management, and a trade or buyout was brewing since the All Star break.
2) He made zero progress on the court and the team could be fairly certain that he was never going to evolve into a long-term starter at the 4 position. As a post mentioned earlier, his hands are horrendous. He was always fumbling what should have been sure assists. And his primary post-move was an awfully inaccurate fadeaway jumper. He’s not particularly good at defense either.
While he IS athletic and energetic, the other tools just really aren’t there to develop from a coordination standpoint. I’d be shocked if he were ever a consistent starter and contributor on a winning team, but do wish him luck.

PlatypusParticipantWith Arthur being out for the year i would like to see him sign a 1 yr deal with memphis
Conley – Allen – Gay – Randolph – Gasol
Selby – Mayo – Pondexter – Hickson – Speights
my suprising team in the west playoffs

TallmanNYCParticipantHey, when we get down on this guy and throw around his stats, don’t just look at this year’s stats. Sacramento was a disaster this year. It could be that Hickson allowed the problems of the team to get in his head and he stopped hustling. A guy like that needs to hustle to contribute in NBA games. On Sacramento if you get the ball in your hands you probably better shoot it because it ain’t coming back around anytime soon. That can lead to some bad shots. Last year, which isn’t long ago, on a "per 36 minute basis" he averaged 17.6 points per game and 11.1 rebounds. He shot a decent 46%. He hasn’t been injured as far as I know, so he should be able to do that again unless his third year in the league was just a fluke career year (that happens). I’m not saying he should be a starter, but I do think another team will pick him up and try to rehabilitate him.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/20/2012 - 5:41am #649247
Jlv2012a nice energy player. Nothing more. Best of luck to him.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/20/2012 - 7:05am #649266
Malik-UniversalParticipantwell, hes a solid player…. i wont say hes unskilled to an extent… but he can improve of course….
like TOL said, hes the "reason" y bron left…. idk what the fuck dan gilbert was thinking…. but amare 4 hickson seemed like a deal in a heartbeat at the time for me….
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/20/2012 - 8:13am #649292
HitsterParticipantThe Nets would seem the most logical team to look at him and he might see decent minutes there when you look at their frontcourt rotation. My other suggestion would be Portland, they have moved Camby and might want to lighten LMA’s load so they could take a look at him.
If I was a GM, I’d look to do a contract with a team option for next year so if he performed well you could keep him or at worse he’s a trade piece on draft night.
