What do you guys think about Kevin Martin? To be honest, I was never a fan of his when he was with the Kings because I simply thought he was just another gunner on a bad team but he has proven to us that he can score on a decent team as he just dropped 45 last night…I hate his release and I can’t respect his slight frame but the guy can drop 30 in a blink of an eye and gets to the free throw line at a copious rate.

Also, where does he rank on your scale of top 100 players

I think Martin is probably a to 40-50 players in this league. Teams have to know where he is on the court at all time. He gets the free throw line at a good clip which he shoots at a very good clip.

Now martin doesnt have a tradition form on his shot but who cares. He gets the job done and as long as he is effective who cares what it looks like.

Also why cant you "respect" his frame? Some people are born skinny and cant put muscle on. If anything you should give the guy props for doing what he does despite being built small.

He’s a great scorer. I don’t know what else to say about him though…

keep in mind that he plays in the same system he did when he initially became effective with rick adelman. he can definitely score with the best of them but his biggest liability is on the ball defense and hes not a great ball handler either.

Badass scorer. One of the more efficient. Would be a superstar if he played in the mid 90’s. I’ve made posts about this recently that i think he would best be suited as a super sub. Guy who comes in and does what he does best and have the greenlight to shoot without having to worry about his defense being a liability to start games. He needs to play behind either a Kobe,Wade,Ellis type who is just a superior talent that can slide to point and play beside Kev, or behind a defensive stopper like Thabo,Afflalo,or prime Raja.

Best served as a gimmick player similar to the way the Mavericks used to use Jerry Stackhouse or the way the Lakers used Sasha in 08′ only at an all-star level.

I would rank Martin in the 45-50 range probably. He can shoot it and slash it, but he doesn’t look to pass very much and he’s a weak defender. Just about all of his value comes from his ability to score the ball.

Martin is a great shooter, he has games where he will drop 40 when he is feeling it and you always need to know where he is on the court because you know he is going to get his 20-25 points per night. What really helps him is his ability to get to the free throw line, he gets there at a very good rate. To me, shooting form does not hold much in my mind, if you can get the ball in the hoop when you shoot it should not matter how it looks when you shoot, the objective of the game is to score, and if you can do that, I tend to not mind. He is a sub par defender and really only is effective on offense, I agree with JNixon though he is in the 45-50 range.
