John Calipari finally gets his first NCAA Championship and gets revenge on Bill Self from 2008.

Everybody knew that Kansas was going to come out slow, the question was were they going to be able to comeback from how big the deficit was? They almost did, but a few critical mistakes hurt them.

Anthony Davis with 6 pts, 16 rebs, 6 blks, 5 assts, and 3 stls, without a doubt the #1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. (Also the first Freshman since Carmelo Anthony to win the MOP in the championship game)

Thomas Robinson with 18 pts and 17 rebs, this is where it becomes interesting. The NBA Draft starts after the #1 pick whenever Davis gets picked, Robinson really impressed me tonight with everything that he did. He did struggle a bit against Kentucky’s size though. To me Robinson should be the #2 pick over Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but then again it depends on the teams needs.

When was the last time that the NCAA Championship game had the top-three players tooken in the draft playing in it? That is what we could see happen this year. MKG added 11 pts and 6 rebs, but came up with a huge block at the end and played great defense.

Marquis Teague showed me some things that I haven’t seen from him before. Shot the ball well, but only came out with 3 assists and that is kind of disapointing. With a weak point-guard class like this he could end up a lottery-pick.

Kentucky could potentially have six players taken in the first-round of the draft. Kansas only has one first round player with Tyshawn Taylor maybe getting picked in the second-round. This was a great game definitely better than the one we saw last year.

Anthony Davis dominated the entire game. Just look at that stat line. 6 pts, 16 rebs, 6 blocks, 4 assists and 3 steals. Thomas Robinson played really well. I think Davis is for sure the #1 pick with Robinson right behide him.

T-Rob had a good game even though he didn’t shoot well 18 & 17 is still beastly. I think he would be best on a team where he not the main scoring option in the post like Sacramento or Detroit. He would be great alongside Cousins or even better with Monroe who is a great passer (monroe hi-lo w/ t-rob).

That block by Kidd-Gilchrist was something else, he just flew through the air to stay with it… was something out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Also, anybody else notice that Robinson is a little slow getting off the ground? He can jump out of the gym, but he doesn’t have that quick elevation, which has seen him get blocked from behind in crucial moments in both games of the Final Four (once by Sullinger, and again by MKG in the championship game).

Overall a good game Kansas keep it interesting with their unwillingness to go away but just dug themselves in a hole to deep to climb out of. What was interresting to me was Self substituting in the 10-7 minutes range left in the game when he took Robinson and Taylor out at the same time and they where down ten. And they had no scoring or decent shot attempts during the 3 minute period they was out and Kentucky took it back up to 16 later with Lamb 3’s. They needed someone at there to score.

Officiating was very incosistant tonight. For the most part they let them play physical, but was quick to call alot of touch fouls. A couple examples Robinson and Withey was fouled alot tonight inside the paint earlier in the game but wasn’t getting the calls. And Kansas was getting the touch fouls on Kentucky players. Later in the game Kentucky was getting mauled abit in the paint but nothing was called exepct touch fouls with hardley no contact. It felt like the Official kept switching from letting them play hard inside to call every little bit of contact inside.

I am a big TROB fan and I think he needs to lay off the weights just a little bit. I tip my hat off to him he played his ass off.Everytime he caught the ball it was two people guarding him at all times and he still did well. Congrats to UK.

I think Robinson gets of the ground pretty quick it’s just sometimes he tries to dunk or go up with power and force instead of an quick easier layup or dunk where he elevate quickly instead of gathering himself for the power jam. Which alot of times always allow the defenders time to get in good position(Sullinger) or weak side defender come across (Gilchrist block)to time and block his shot.

That monster defensive effort by Kidd-Gilchrist summed up what he is about and what he brings to every game. Love him.

If your sell phone reception is not working, it is because Anthony Davis blocked it.

    1. Kentucky was by far the superior team, and the best team this season. Their size, quickness, athleticism gave Kansas trouble.

    2. Anthony Davis will be a defensive monster at the next level, but is definitely going to struggle offensively.

    3. Thomas Robinson will struggle against bigger players in the NBA. I think he will be a solid player, but I don’t think he’ll ever be a star.

    4. Terrence Jones cannot guard the post. Robinson routinely got Jones pinned underneath the basket for easy looks down low.

    5. Jeff Withey will be a defensive minded backup C in the league. He looked stuck to the ground on offense, is deliberately slow with his post moves, and will struggle to get buckets in the NBA.

    6. The refs really swallowed the whistle tonight. Very few fouls called as the refs allowed them to play. I like it, as refs should never determine the outcome of the game. I thought a few no-calls should definitely have been called, but nothing terrible.

    7. Kansas almost seemed to be trying to hard. A lot of the time they seemed to rush things offensively and almost seemed out of control at times. I think many of their players got caught up in the lights.

p>Now we can see who really are the most NBA skilled players. I think the mock on here is garbage. Workouts will shape the draft setting properly.

Robinson ran into the most trouble when he tried to pump fake under the basket and the weak side defender shifted over.  He’s going to have to get used to all teams having that kind of size next year, but I think he’ll adjust.

Davis had trouble too on the block against Jeff Withey’s length, but had SO much impact on the defensive end.  He was truly a game changer.

I think both players are going to be good after some learning curve going to the league.  Neither guy had a great game but they managed lines of

    6 points 16 rebounds 6 blocks 5 assists 3 steals

    and

    18 points 17 rebounds (5 offensive) and 1 assist.

I think it says something when a guy has a beast line after a not great game. Both players will need to adjust their game to the next level, but both have the talent to do so.

I know playing in the final game boosts a players stock, but Robinson shouldn’t go too high. He just seems mechanical and limited. A great athlete and as strong as anyone, but that will be equalized when he gets into the NBA and he is playing against guys who are similar in strength. He needs more skills at his size. The league is going more and more to playing Stretch Fours. And Robinson is obvioulsy never going to be that.

Withey seems to have upside as a defender. He should get a lot of credit in holding Davis to an atrocious shooting night. I don’t think Davis is going to struggle to score at the next level if we are only expecting 12 to 15 points a game. I’d compare him to the other players who bring the same level of shot blocking. Davis should compare very nicely to, for example, Ibaka. He is worlds ahead of Biyombo. The scoring looks good enough if you are going to get 4 blocks a game and whole lot of intimidation. T. Chandler doesn’t score a lot per game, but you can’t really say he struggles to score because he shoots such a higher percentage. For a guy who brings such special defense, you can cut him slack on how many points per game he gets.

Davis actually had 5 assists.  2 steals away from having a 5×5 in the NCAA Championship after posting his ridiculous stat line in the semi finals.  Dude is going to be a legend.
