I was just about to come on here and make a post about him.  I have actually been meaning to for awhile.  Do you know he just got his 84th career double double which is tied for second in NCAA history with Ralph Sampson and only Tim Duncan who got 87 has more?  84 double doubles is beast it doesn’t matter what conferance you play in.  

But Kenneth Faried is a bonafied hustler.  I honestly don’t think there are 15 better players in this draft.  They say Rebounding is the skill that translates the easiest to the NBA, so does hustle and heart, and to top it off Faried is a freak athlete.  He is going to put up crazy combine numbers in every category.  He got a mammoth wingspan, one of the best leapers in the country, quick, fast, and agile, and he never stops playing.  His head is always in the game, and he plays with more passion then anybody in college basketball right now.  He got better footwork in the post then he’s given credit for.  He’s his teams leading scorer shooting 65%.  

But I advise you guys to try and watch one of his games because his stats only tell half his story.  Faried can grab an offensive rebound at it’s peak, land, jump, and dunk again, before the other defenders land.  He’s so quick on off his feet and combined with his vert and standing reach, gives him a max reach height that is going to translate immediatley to the next level.

 No you are way off even mentioning him in the same sentence as Renaldo Balkman.  As JR. Balkman avaraged 9.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.3 Stls, 1.7 Blocks.  His claim to fame was hustling his team to victory in the NIT finals with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals.  Renaldo Balkman had no real skill that translated to the league besides hustle.  He doesn’t have a necessarily high basketball I.Q and only measured at 6’6.5" in shoes.  And weighed 206 pounds.  He was a terribly first round pick, and everybody knew it.  He did nothing to dispel that notion.

This site has Louis Amundson as a comparison, which if you never saw him play you would think if plausible,  but after watching Faried for the 4th time this season, well 5th cause I watched the game against Austin Peay twice that comparison is laughable.  Amundson best season in college was 14 ppg, 8rpg, and 1 bpg, 53%.  Neither Amundson nor Balkman dominated game in college like Faried does.  And the great thing about Faried is he is tremendously consistent.  He is always a factor when he is on the court, and asisde from his physical ability he has instincts.  You don’t put up the production he get’s on a consistent basis without his combination of brute athleticism, passion, and instincts.  Faried as mentioned earlier is now second in NCAA history in career double doubles, with 84, and has a punchers chance at tying Duncan with 87.  

In other words it’s time to start paying attention to Kenneth Faried because he is making history.  He plays like somebody put Predator in a uniform and threw a thermal basketball on the court.  After watching him fly around the court for 36 minutes last night on his way to 12 points, 21 rebounds, 3 steals, and 8 blocks on 6-8 shooting and virtually willing his team to victory getting his hands on countless other lose balls that don’t show up in the stat sheets I thought he would be exhausted.  He plays with so much fire I watched the game when it replayed.  And just watched him the whole game trying to envision what he could do on that court, that he could do on an NBA court.  

I didn’t even realize that MoreHead State played again tonight during the UNC-Duke game nonetheless.  As soon as I turned the game on, I saw Faried with one arm just shove Tenn Tech’s 7 footer to the flew hard, then became infuriated when he got called for a foul, by the way he reacted I thought it was his 2nd or 3rd meaning he would have to come out, but it was just his first of the game.  At first I thought he looked like he was tired, he had to be after last nights game.  I found myself watching more of this game then the UNC-Duke game.  By the time it was done Faried had put in another memorable performance in 36 minutes with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks on 7-9 shooting.

Look, Faried is the best rebounder in the college game today. Period. If you do not believe me, just ask Florida coach Billy Donovan. 

"That’s Dennis Rodman all over again," Donovan said. "If I was an NBA general manager I’d be taking him with my pick. That’s what a next-level guy looks like. He just totally destroyed our frontcourt. … That was definitely an incredible performance by a terrific player." 

Faried remembers Rodman’s Chicago Bulls beating the Knicks in the playoffs as he watched on TV with his dad. He remembers Rodman’s hustle, toughness and grit. He identifies with those qualities and still admires how Rodman accepted his role to help the Bulls win championships. Upon recalling those memories, he smiled and said, “Me too.” 

Morehead State has experienced unprecedented recent success with 24- and 20-win seasons and an OVC championship in 2009 under coach Donnie Tyndall, who signed Faried, a little known 6-8, 190=pound forward out of Newark, N.J. Marist was the only other NCAA D-I program to even offer Faried a scholarship. 
He has averaged 13.0 rebounds per game over the past two-plus seasons and his numbers will probably go up this season as he will see more playing time. Faried is asthmatic, but recent nose surgery has relieved some of the symptoms. Tyndall wants more out of his star player, and he will get more.

Just looked him up on youtube. I never realized how athletic he was, i thought he was pure hustle but apparently he has crazy athleticism to go with it. If he can bulk up i can see the Ben Wallace comparison but thats still a pretty big reach.

 @Cost15 I love your common sense by atleast trying to look the guy up before and see if you can see him play before commenting.  That’s why I said I highly reccommend trying to watch Morehead State when they play in the tourney because you will see he is a lot stronger then he looks.  Wallace when he first started taking the league by storm was not that much bigger then Faried is now and Wallace obviously just got bigger and bigger as his career went on.  Based on his history and work ethic there should be no doubts Faried will do the same.  He looks to be able to add anothe solid 15 pounds.  He only needs to get to 245 and he is already 235.  I didn’t get a chance to see him play Florida, but I did watch when he played Ohio State.  Just like Sullinger does well, Faried puts his body as a low center of gravity in the post and has the quickes burst off the ground to his max reach height then anybody else I have saw all year in college.  And just like Rodman and Wallace, when Sullinger did seal him on the block, Faried got uncanny quickness and agilty to be able to wrap around and get infront before the pass arrives.  That’s why he had so many steals against Ohio State.  But Stength or height is not a problem with that way he plays plus his wingspan, athleticsm, and raw core strength as compared to bulk is more then enough to compensate.

UPDATE: 

The Manimal is averaging 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds shooting 13-18 in 23 mpg in the Nuggets last 2 wins.  He’s averaging 8 and 6 on the year in 17 mpg while shooting 57% and getting a block for good measure too.  Nene’s injury has really opened up playing time for Faried and he’s been flourishing.   Hopefully he can continue to start and see extended action so we can see extended arms dunking putbacks.

 I read something interesting the other day. A bunch of stat heads tried to figure out what the NBA really drafts for. The most important stat was how many points per game a player scored. If they scored a lot of points in college, a player was more likely to be drafted higher. Something that the NBA didn’t really draft for was rebounding. Faried was a beast rebounder in college. He got drafted, but he already looks like a legit starting NBA power forward when he gets any minutes. While the jury is still out on some high scoring big time names. Maybe the NBA should have been less concerned about the guy being two inches too short and more concerned about the fact that he seems to help teams win basketball games.

 I was a strong believer that he should be a 1st round pick, but even I am a little surprised how well he’s doing as a starter.  I honestly thought he’d be around a 6 and 6 player as a rookie, but he’s really adjusted quickly. Malik Rose’s best season was 10 and 6.  I think I undershot Faried as a prospect.  Still, good for him, I’ve been a fan of his for a few years now.

Faried has stepped up since Nene got inured and he has justified the faith Coach Karl has shown in him. If he wasn’t up to the job, Coach Karl would not give him minutes let alone a starter’s role over more experienced guys.When Nene returns Faried’s role will be reduced but he’ll surely stay in rotation and it looks like Denver may have found a nice replacement for K-Mart right away.

Denver must have liked him as they made a trade to raft him and as Amir says below, Coach Karl knows how to bring guys along and they didn’t rush Faried but when he needed to step up he was ready.
