delfamParticipantWith Harrison Barnes, Reggie Bullock, and having John Henson return Kendall Marshall seems to take a backseat. I want peoples thoughts on this guy as he is probably my favorite freshmen this year. He’s behind Drew and Strickland but I could see him being the starter by the end of the year.
He just seems like the prototypical point guard, he always makes the right pass and controls tempo. He might not wow you with his athleticism but he gets it done and wins. He just seems like a winning type of player to me. Thoughts? Comparisons?

JNixonParticipantDon’t expect too much from Marshall. He’s possibly the purest PG out of Drew and Strickland, but he’s very slow and he can’t shoot right now. His lack of speed makes him a weird/bad fit for the UNC offense, and I don’t expect him to be more than a 5 ppg scorer with 1 or 2 apg chipped in. He’s a long-term player, but he’s not really good enough to contribute much.

canesboy6ParticipantI think he is exactly what they need at the point. He will supplant Drew. IT isn’t all about speed, and Kendall isn’t slow he just isn’t fast. He pushes the ball up, makes solid passes, and gets the offense moving. He doesn’t need to be that good with Barnes. Bullock, Henson, and Zeller to pass to. He needs to be mistake free, efficient, stick his open looks, and keep everything organized.
Larry Drew is terrible. he wanted to transfer, and Pepperdine wouldn’t even take him. He will lose his starting job. I think by years end Strickland will be better than him too at point, even though its not his natural position.
On a side note, I like strickland alot. He needs some time to learn point but he reminds me of Shammond Williams, except more explosive. Great athlete, just cant shoot yet.

JNixonParticipantLol @ “he’s not slow, he’s just not fast.” Nice 1-liner
He’s slow. He definitely isn’t a PG you want running a fast-paced style. Unless Roy Williams changes the entire offense to cater to Marshall, which I’m 100% sure won’t happen, Marshall will see extremely limited time. On top of being slow, he’s a bd shooter too. Like I said, anything over 5 ppg and 2 apg is a great season for Marshall. He’s not that good right now. He’ll need time and for the ENTIRE UNC offense to cater to him to have the most success.

Yan111ParticipantDon’t expect 12ppg behind Barnes, Bullock, Henson & Zeller. IMO I think this guy is middle-second round pick for 2012/2013 Draft. NBA teams always love high basket-ball IQ point guard, especially North Carolina point guard.

bishopm.dotParticipantI think Kendall Marshall will be the back up point guard so that they can move Strickland to the off-guard where he would be much more effective. Playing the point took away a lot of Strickland’s aggressiveness. Marshall doesn’t need to be great, he just needs to be able to handle the ball and run the offense. Marshall can really help them in the half court, where UNC always struggles.

kanyedabestParticipanthonestly i think he is one those types of players whose best basketball is behind him, he mcd’s AA but as far as making it to the league i dont know if he will. He is great a poing guard dont get me wrong but he lacks the athletcism and jumpshot that you need to play at the next level and even the acc. He is surronuded by great talent so that will help his cause but he is def a 4 yr player at unc from what ive seen

delfamParticipantIm tired of all these athletic point guards who get to the basketball and look for their own shots first. This is why I love Marshall, he is a throwback point guard, he doesn’t look for his shot and looks for others, he helps the chemistry of the team and gets everyone involved, he just knows how to play basketball.
The NBA is lacking these types of players because they don’t give them a chance to play. Guys like Nash, Kidd, Billups,Fisher, and even Andre Miller aren’t the fastest and with Miller and Kidd not the greatest shooters, but they know how to play, and can pass and control tempo. Sorry for the rant I just hate all these PG’s like Westbrook,Rose, and Evans. I know the odds are against Marshall but I think he can make it in the league and be affective if a team gives him a chance.

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantDo you guys think that he could play overseas if he works on his jumper and/or beefs up a little bit?

gregoden08ParticipantHe’s good enough to play overseas no matter what. He just has too much ability. I think the question is whether or not he can play in the NBA. As a UNC fan, I am a little skeptical, but he will get a shot.

JuicyMcnamusParticipantHe’s a great player his skills just wont translate to unc’s system as well as it would in a more half court offense.. and as far as playin overseas he’s about 15-20 pounds from bein good enough to play

Thomas C.K.ParticipantI think there is a chance that Kendall Marshall could start or get significant playing time as a freshman because he is an OUTSTANDING passer. I’ve seen him play several times in high school for O’Connell and last weekend in a Summer League game and his ability to find open teammates may be second to none. K.Marshall is also good at using head and body fakes to confuse defenders which could help him be a better scorer at UNC. He’s been the target for a lot of criticism in the D.C.area because he committed to UNC after his freshman year at O’Connell…that put a bulls-eye on his back.

the fanParticipantI didn’t watch much UNC this year but was Drew really that bad? Didn’t he average a lot of assists and almost 2/1 ratio? That isn’t that bad, unless he shot really poor %’s or something.
