FutureNBAGMParticipantHow much do you think is fair? I mean, Im hearing from some people that he should get max money but Im not so sure about that. Despite his MVP performance, I would probably start at about 4 years/$50 million or so (as opposed to the $80 million deals that John Wall and Paul George signed). What do you guys think? Again, I could be wrong.

BallinmvpParticipantyes he is a good player and deserves to get paid but in no way does he deserves max money. You are right that he shouldn’t get max, but he should get a solid extension.

i’m jus so offendedParticipant4/$60-70 was what I was thinking as this series went along. Since long term cap ramifications for the Spurs are beyond minimal, they can be more than accomidating. Hopefully his agent doesn’t use that as leverage for higher pay to make a mess of things. As always though, he’ll be a RFA if the Spurs don’t sign him to an extension, so we’ll see.

nick5354ParticipantI agree, about 12-13 mil over 4 years is what I would think is appropriate. Leonard is such as humble guy and loving playing under the Spurs I think he takes it and won’t ask for the max. He would want to pay back the Spurs for their ability to help him out as a player and wouldn’t get greedy or ask for a massive (70-80 mil) pay day.

ditotayParticipanthe has very good examples in Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili of players that put money on a second tier in order to win multiple championships. I think he is not going to ask the max and stay in SA in a very affordable salary. Maybe when Duncan, Parker and Ginobili retire he could ask for more money, but for now he is going to stay.

TheLastWordParticipantIf guys like Hayward and Monroe get 12 million a year deals this summer you better believe Leonard will be offered the max by many teams.

Jayhawks2011ParticipantThis was kahwi’s first time this year scoring 20+ in 3 straight games. He is gonna get a max if he is let out as an RFA. However taking paycuts is sort of part of SA culture as well if you look at Duncan, Ginobli, Parker’s deals thy are below market value. Im guessing he re-ups in SAS for 5 years 65-70 million.

Neggedpastorhe will be over payed I like kawhi and tony allen type of players but I know what can of pay they deserve he won finals mvp because he had a great series their were low expectations for him he overachieved for for sure stuck the best player on earth.
spurs over pay players a lot to retain team chemistry and face it they have little flexibility cap wise to go out and get more talented players so they find low value players and make them valuable to San Antonio.
if kwahi gets anything over ten mill he might be getting over payed he was finals mvp but he was also the 4th option on the team he played great d and made nice offensive plays one of my fav young players but could he do that as a number 1 or 2 option ? without greg, duncan, parker, or manu. I use to ask the same thing about rondo he elevated his game with the big 3 but khawi has a long way to go.
but he will be overpayed and if its by a team that will contend and most likely have to face LeBron it might be justifiable.

ReturnofthelemonParticipantHe will probably end up getting a contract similar to Nicolas Batum’s. Maybe a little more. 4 year/45 is what Batum received.

Neggedpastoras far as defense of course you can. its a few wing players in the league who can change a game on the defensive end not defend a player Im saying CHANGE the game on the defensive end of things. Undersized tony allen gave kevin Durant a hard time sinces kd has been in the playoffs similar to the pesk khawi is to LeBron and the heat .
of course as far as other thing they have few in common but all defense player have to share something in common or they wouldn’t make the nba all defense team.
speaking of which kevin Durant stated his self that khwai is also reaping the benefits of playing in a great system that isn’t his fault.
I love khawi but offering him a max or a crazy deal would be a stupid move when he hasn’t proved much yet we are talking about a 4th or 5th option on a hof team deserving a max deal or close to it.
that would be a stupid move every team and every player has their own market value.
the spurs may be able to throw extra money at him to lock him up but once the players and coach are gone and kwahi is the building block will his play live up to his projected pay when he is forced to lead the team ?

FourthQuarterFanParticipantKawhi will command the max in the free market. I doubt the Spurs offer him a max extension, however, because they are notoriously cheap. And Kawhi is too nice to try to push for a max contract which he could get if he was a free agent. If he refuses the extension, he could become a RFA and he will get max offer sheets from multiple teams. There are not many players of Kawhi’s caliber that are on rookie contracts. He’s friggin 22, and an NBA Finals MVP, and played Lebron tougher than anyone has during these playoffs, including Paul George.
