OhCanada-ParticipantKarl Anthony Towns.
For some reason not many people are talking about the Big Kat. Most peoples ROY candidates were Mudiay, Okafor, Hezonja or Johnson. Everyone expected him to be ready and perform well but wow. The kid is averaging 16-ppg, 10-rpg, and 3-bpg shooting 50% fg and 85%ft. Not only this but Minnesota is competing.
There are many young centers emerging in the league. Vucevic, Whiteside, Valanciunas, Gobert, and obviously Drummond are a handful of great young C’s but if I had to choose ooneto build around it would be Karl without ant hesitation. He is the perfect Center for today’s game.
Has a perfect shot, a huge body with long arms, outstanding athleticism and agility which goes underated. The way he runs the floor with the ball in his hands is like Anthony Davis. His instincts on both ends of the floor are wise beyond his years. I honestly believe he will become the best C in the league soon and Minnesota will be Championship material led by him and Wiggins in no time.

river09ParticipantI’ll admit, I wasn’t impressed with what I saw of his play in college (which wasn’t much) and was hoping the Wolves would go somewhere else with the first pick. He seemed too passive and I thought his skills and athleticism were way overhyped. I was wrong.

NBAjunkie81Participantupcoming Draft very closely…. 2015 was considered a deep draft but w/o fail Every scout I read or heard (TV, Radio, Internet) claimed that "although the 2015 Draft is deep with Talent, Okafor & Towns are at a different level from all the rest)…..
So far – & like it usually is the case – all the top scouts were correct… The Rookie class looks Very strong but Towns & Okafor are at another Level…. I have watched Both Centers play & came away Extremely impressed…
Okafor avg 20 pts 7 reb 1.5 blocks & shoots 49% FG% on a team that has NO ONE else who can score…. So the opposition keys on him & him alone 100% of the time & he scores anyway…
Towns (as OhCanada mentioned) avg 16 pts 10 reb 3 blocks & shoots 50% on a Very goodlooking young T-Wolves team….
Both these guys are Still 19 y/o’s – Towns will turn 20 on Nov 15 & Okafor will turn 20 one month later on Dec 15……
I really thought we were going to have a Magic vs Bird level NCAA Final last March… But it wasn’t meant to be…. Still, I believe these two "teenagers" are going to provide over a decade off great match ups for all us fans….. B/c they are Both absolute Stud Big Men…..

Memphisboy14ParticipantReal talk Okafor would average more rebounds if he wasn’t playing next to Nerlens Noel.

King CaluchaParticipantAll solid arguments, which leads me to ask. What’s the difference between KAT and rookie Anthony Davis?
AD didn’t have a single go-to move when he entered the league. KAT seems to be in a more favorable position offensively. I’ve seen KAT play with his national team and it seems his perimeter and 3pt shot is already pretty good. He might never get the blocks and steals AD does, but his IQ is higher than AD’s at the same age IMO. Also, his passing is severely underrated.
It seems only athleticism sets them apart and KAT is no slouch in that department.

HeroescantdieParticipantDavis is a rare Freak, He’s a Point guard before the growth spurt as you can see he can handle the ball like a guard as for towns he’s like a more of Good verstatile skill set good jumpshot out to 3pt line, pick and pop/roll guy, good shotblocker rebounder, he’s future is bright it’s just that davis is more unique in terms of size skills and athleticism

Jr. ROXASParticipantKAT does average more blocks per game than Davis so far though. Also rebounds. But yea, Davis will keep up for sure. I have a feeling KAT has more RPG than Davis this season though.

SlickBouncePassParticipantPeople are caught up with AD because of his incredible dunking/athleticism. That was the first attraction. The second was his J was really smooth. In combination, its really impressive.
My thought is that afte he came into the NBA his body Continued to grow. Unless he shows us something else, I think he’s lost some explosiveness, because he’s too long. I see him struggle with some of the muscle-bound NBA players, its either that, or he just refuses to take over games and wants to do it within his offense.
Towns is more compact and explosive but does everything well, with a high IQ like you said.
Unfortunately, AD appears a freak, but his game hasn’t translated to this point. Towns looks better.
To me, AD and Porzingis are in the same boat.
Towns and Okafor are in the same boat. Both a little undersized but compact enough to use their length really well.
I know this is retarded but look at Manute Bol, how long was he. He was so long it limited his effectiveness on the court.
We’ll have to see with AD, Porzingis, Giannis, and Bender coming in. I’m not sold on Thon Maker.

Mr. HookShotParticipantI believe the main difference between Davis and Towns is the fact that Davis is a multi-dimensional player who can do basically everything on the court (like you stated: blocks, steals etc. etc.), while Towns is more bounded to traditional big men tasks, plus his beautiful outside shot. So Davis has more skills, but the most crucial skills both players have.

Ebown5ParticipantI think that you nailed it.
Davis is a notch better athletically, and is more of a freak of nature skills wise. Towns is very skilled as well, but he is more of a traditional power forward, that can then also stretch the floor. Davis is more of a swiss army knife in that he can isolate on the wings, and punish opponents with his quickness.
At the same age, I think that Towns is actually better offensively than Davis was, but Davis improved so rapidly between 19 and 21.
They are both studs though, and probably the top two high ceiling big men in the NBA, until Embiid gets healthy that is. 🙂

SkalAndJamalParticipantI watched every UK game and I thought he really needed another year or else he could land on the wrong team and have his career dissolve in front of us. When Calipari wasn’t force feeding him the ball, he would be nonexistent, for example the West Virginia game. It sseemed like he got a while to go to be a player who can impact a game right away… But I do think he might have just had an amazing offseason. He definitely looks a lot stronger than he did at UK. But give credit where credit is due, he really wants to be a great player and the organization is completely invested in him, so both sides definitely put in the work to have him be the player he is now.
These Wolves are coming and 2-4 years they’re going to be one of the powers in the NBA forsure. Flip really did a great job.

Memphisboy14ParticipantIt’s not like people didn’t think he could be good right away. Many people including myself thought that he wouldn’t have the opportunity right away to showcase his game. Jahlil Okafor and Mudiay were logical choices (they are doing pretty good also) because it was a given that would start.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThe kid is phenomenal… he is a gift to the Wolves!! What he is doing this early in his career is amazing! Forget the stats the, the wins he is leading them to is what will set him a part in the end. He is everything the Wolves had hoped and more. It is sad that Flip won’t be around to see just how good he is!!
