I’d be the first to admit that I thought Kansas’ run of 9 big 12 titles would end this year with Oklahoma State dethroning them.  After losing Tyshawn Taylor and Jeff Withey’s leadership I figured they would struggle mightily.  Kansas was super young this year with Perry Ellis, Joel Embiid, Wiggins and Naadir Tharpe.  After some early season struggles, Kansas has been on a tear and basically ran through the Big 12 on the way to their 10th straight conference title.  Wiggins has improved, Perry Ellis has played well and Embiid is possibly this years top NBA draft pick.  Bill Self outrecruited heavuweights Roy Williams and John Calipari for Wigginsand has another blue chip recruiting class coming in next season.  Self has to be seen as one of the top coaches in the country and has done an amazing job in Lawrence.  With one natonal title already in 2008, it isn’t out of the possibility to expect 2 more from Self and continued domination in the Big 12.

i think it’s a testament to bill self. he did what john calipari wished he could do.  he has 4 freshman, 1 transfer and 2 sophomores playing the majority of the minutes and doing a great job.  i think self did a great job of setting expectations for embiid low, only to have embiid have a monster year.  wiggins may have been a little overrated and inconsistent at times but he’s still a budding star.  perry ellis and tharpe bounced back with a great years.  tarik black brings toughness and leadership.  mason has been a surprise and seldon has been a great team player and facilitator.

overall though, this team knows how to play team basketball; something the last 2 kentucky teams haven’t been able to figure out.

that UT would make a push for the big 12 title this year after playing a lot better then expected. That hope was shot down with the whooping Kansas gave them in Lawrence the other night. Props to Kansas though, they’ve been a terror in the Big12 the last decade. Although sharing the title in 05 with Oklahoma, 06/08 with UT, and last year with Kansas State. I don’t see them stopping anytime soon by the way Self is recruiting

This was the year I really could not believe Kansas could keep the streak going. They had just lost Rush, Arthur, Chalmers, Robinson, Kaun, Jackson…You had a barely used Cole Aldrich, a horrible first year twins who were super skinny and could not jump, Releford a freshman who redshirted the next year, Reed and Mornigstar had not played a lick of minutes, Tyshawn Taylor freshman (and if you thought he was wild as a senior imagine as a freshman). Sherron Collins bascially carried this team to that years title. In the turnover of college basketball this accomplishment is insane and a real kudos to Bill Self and the team system he run.

the 2012-2013 team was another one that i thought would have troubles.  i think that year had more to do with a really bad big 12 conference.
