im a really big fan of randle. he has a very unique skill set that you don't see often. now before I get negatives from all corners of the earth, im not gonna say randle is LeBron or even close to LeBron, hes obviously not. with that said he does have some traits in his game that are similar. he likes bring the ball up the court very much so, he has very impressive ball handling skills for a guy his size, and physically he is an absolute alpha male at the high school level. it seems like he has tried to pattern his offensive game after LeBron, minus the passing. all this is easier said then done, but out of everyone in this class he seems to be the guy who has manage to look kinda similar in the sense of knifing through the defense with power and speed, and having rare court vision for a guy his size. again im not saying these traits are anywhere near what LeBron does, but I can see some similarities in what hes trying to do out there. im sure a lot of people would think more so jabari parker doing these things, because of his great passing and court vision. I really think though that jabari does not have that speed or power to his game to really be much like LeBron at all. I can see these traits more so in randle. I might regret this, but thoughts everyone.
He could develop as a similar post/iso scorer to LeBron (certainly not as good, but still similar). He definitely has the ability to be a real mismatch on the block with his athleticism and attacking mentality. That said, I don't think he has near the athleticism to develop the perimeter game of LeBron. LeBron is really big now, but he was trimmer than Randle in high school. And LeBron is just an insane athlete. Guys his size shouldn't be as coordinated as he is. I think Randle would be best served modeling his game after what LeBron does inside the lane, but if he tries to develop as a wing, like LeBron, it will be a mistake.
I agree randle should develop his post game, and he is no where near the athlete LeBron is( not many people are). thanks for a reasonable response, honestly I was expecting a lot of people to misinterpret what I was getting at and create extra accounts on hear to get me to 20 million negatives lol. I really think randle could be something special though, he just needs to get away from that point forward mentality and work more on being a freak athlete power forward who can beat other power forwards on offense in unique ways, in my opinion.
I know everybody is in love with Wiggins, but honestly Randle is my favorite prospect out of this class. Dude is an absolute beast. I don't really see Lebrons game other than the fact that he is a big guy that has guard skills. He reminds me more of a cross between Chris Webber and Amare Stoudemire. I think he will be a stretch 4 in the league and I actually think he has the best chance at knocking Wiggins off the number one spot. He just has that pit bull mentality that guys like Jordan, Kobe, Westbrook and other great players have.. He just wants to abuse and humiliate the competition. Don't get me wrong I love Wiggins as a prospect and his potential. But I just think if Wiggins doesn't go to Kentucky, Randle will have a big year for the Wildcats and could give Wiggins a serious run for the number one spot.
randle is my favorite guy in this class too. before he eliminated Carolina I was praying he would pick them. I agree he is the biggest threat to wiggins presumed current number 1 spot in the 14 draft. a lot of people are saying if anybody has a shot its parker, but I disagree. randle seems to have that killer instinct now that wiggins and parker may lack. I think that may be huge for him.
Yea plus history in the NBA shows that bigs and point guards have a better shot at going number 1. The last player I think to be drafted number 1 that's wasn't a point guard or a big man was Lebron. So maybe Wiggins and Parker can do it, but I just love Randles game man. I really think he can knock Wiggins off that number one spot
I like Randle as much as the next guy as a prospect. But to compare him to Bron is crazy. He's nice. Aggressive in the paint, a good finisher, above average ball handler, passer, and rebounder for his position. He seems to have the it factor. To me he's a Chris Bosh/ Zach Randolph type hybrid with a better motor and both skill sets developed. Hopefully he sticks it out as a 4 and doesn't try and play the 3. At the PF position I feel he would be such a dynamic mismatch due to his ability to put the ball on the floor against bigger forwards. Kid needs to bulk up too. But let's see what he does against college competition.
One thing that's underwhelmed me about Randle is how he doesn't blow by defenders consistently for someone who is extremely quick and powerful. Sure he can blow by unathletic defenders and slam it home. He did that a few times in the Hoop Summit game. Athletic defenders are able to stay with him and apply a lot of pressure to his shot. For a high school stud who is billed a future all-star, he doesn't get a lot of clean looks. That's troublesome.
He reminds me a little bit of Antonio McDyess, but is slightly better in the perimeter. Both guys are face up post players with elite athletecism at their position. I have no doubt Randle will be a great NBA player due to his relentless high motor.
Think he will the leading scorer at Kentucky next season and a candidate to challenge Andrew Wiggins for the number one pick...he just needs to remember to mix the inside and outside game but I honestly think he has the chance to be the biggest star in that 2014 class...relentless motor supreme athletic ability and still only 18 years old...SCARY
Its hard to believe he came back so quick and so strong. Its a shame he didnt have the whole season to workout.
Chris Webber/Blake Griffin mix for me
I see him as a franchise talent too..he definitely can be 20/10 guy for years..
he is 248 while scouts says he looks as lean and fit as ever..with that being said he might be Carlos Boozer type of huge fella who is actually super agressive and with ELITe(for bigmen) perimeter skills..
sounds like freakish combination
...is an absolutely a beast. His hunger for the ball (scoring) is really unmatched in this class. He is a guy who will force contact and put the official in a position to have to call fouls. He is tenacious and plays without fear of anyone. He also has a great skill set for a 6'9 240 pound young man. He can handle it and appears to have touch out to 15-17 feet. I really like him.
Wiggins will go #1 in the draft because it's being repeated so much. I've expressed my opinion on this enough. While he does have the talent to warrant the pick; even if he underwhelms in his lone year in college he will be the #1 pick. Remember; Harrison Barnes had a rough frosh year and was still projected as a potential #1 pick (or at least top 3 pick). Once the scouts love you as a high school prospect then you have some leeway in that freshman year of college ball and they will still see you as they saw you as a high school senior (unless you lied about your age, have a crazy father, and look sad after a teammate hits a game winner lol).
But I feel Wiggins will need to improve his skill set to really have success at the next level that he desires. He will be a good player regardless but if he can improve his handle and shooting he can be scary. He needs an uptempo system to allow his game to show. Should be interesting next year to watch him develop.
And I have said this as well...Jabari Parker needs to lose 15-20 pounds. 240 pounds for a 3 man is too much for him to carry. If he drops 15 pounds I think we will see a dynamic basketball player.
The kid has NO right hand and shoots very awkward shots going to his right. Needs to develop that right hand.
actually I believe that was a knock on him going into his junior year and from what I have seen he can score and dribble with either hand now.
Am I the only one that seems to think he has tunnel vision when he catches the ball? I can appreciate his desire to score and like his ability to take you off the dribble for a big man but it seemed like (at Hoop Summit) he was just looking to score EVERY time.
