What is this guy worth contract wise? I mean if I was a GM I would never touch the guy, not sure why any team would sign him. He is a tweener that can’t play the 3 or the 4, is a cancer on offense and can only block shots on defense cause he is out of position.

These flashy type players always get big contracts cause they look good on the court, but they never actually contribute to their team winning games.

I look at a guy like Thad Young who got 5yr/$42mil contract and feel that is where Smith should land as Young contributes energy and effort. But I know some GM will give him $80mil.

My question is why pay this guy?

Smith is a shot blocking machine with elite athleticism. The only knock on him is he thinks he’s a jump shooter. If he could cut down on his attempts at long jumpers and keep his game simple, he’d be worth a good deal. I wouldn’t pay him more than 10.5 million a year personally.

I agree with your comment sir, he would be an excellent fit for the Spurs. He would get the chance to grow not only as a player but as a man, class organization they are.

He’s a terror in open court. Can block shots and plays solid D. His Avg PER has been around 18.00 over the last 4 years, so it’s not like we are talking about someone who can’t play. Cancer on offense… I see what you’re saying the guy does take some really bad shots. A perfect contract in my eyes for him would be 4 years 48 million. But most likely it’s a 4 year 56 million.

I really hope Smith picks winning over money ( Easy for me to say… right! ) And the place I want to see him go is the Spurs. Playing for Pop and with TD and Parker to me would open up him as a player. And we’ll all get to see him grow into a very, very good player.

He uses his athleticism and leaping ability to his advantage and blocking shots but how good is he going to be in 4 or 5 years time when he is older and slower ?

He needs better shot selection and needs to stop trying to be “the man”. I think if he pulls his head in and can make himself a second or third option on a contending team he will do well. He needs a stong coach and vets around him like as laarethekings said the spurs would be a great fit for him – not sure how that would work salary wise….

As a GM I would maybe look at 3 years for 36 or 4 years for 40 million but I am sure someone would be silly enough to pay him 5 x 80 mill
