valentineI’m not a Memphis fan, but it’s obvious that he needs to go. He had an elite recruiting class in 2013, and five of the six players from that class have transferred out. I don’t have any inside knowledge, but it sounds like an obvious indictment on him.

Memphisboy14ParticipantHe’s had good recruiting classes plenty of years but he just hasn’t been getting it done. I swear if Tom Izzo had the talent Pastner has had he would’ve gotten to at least the Elite 8 consistently with those squads. He’s pulled the wool over our eyes in Memphis. I’ve completely given up on him. Hopefully we can get him out of there soon. The University of Memphis Alumni praised him as if he was the 2nd coming of Coach K. They were clearly trying to soften the blow of us losing John Calipari. Clearly none of the things they said were true. With that being said he is a pretty good recruiter.

RUDEBOY_Participant7 players have left that program in less than a year….pastner was a great recruiter..but havent been a very good coach..memphis fan base and former memphis players all want him gone…
he havent done a good job of developing players..which is the reason why austin nichols dad want him to transfer…reports say nichols dad believes playing under pastner will continue to hurt his chances of becoming a pro…
pastner told wmctv sports director jarvis greer that he believes the nichols situation can and will be resolved… and he expects nichols to be a part of the team when the season starts….no team wants to hear of a player transfering in july…it puts them in a difficult position..thats why memphis is playing hard ball…but eventually they’ll going to have to let him go…

Memphis MadnessParticipantWith Pastner it’s the disconnect. He is not, for some reason or another, connecting with the players or the fan base.
On the basketball side, we still don’t have an identity. There is no BRAND.
Coach Cal had been to the Final Four and the NBA playoffs as a coach before he came to Memphis. Then he established a BRAND. Put in a new defense. Then went out and "borrowed" some random coach’s Dribble Drive Offense. Then he took advantage of the 1 and Done Rule. Calipari is literally a marketing guy. He majored in it in college.
Tiger Basketball is missing an IDENTITY and a BRAND.
Play calling and substitution patterns will average themselves out. But, you can’t win big without a long term VISION.
I hope we get it back, though.
I wonder.
People complain that John Calipari took the entire Memphis program with him when he went to Kentucky.
No, he took HIS program with him.
Tigers don’t need a youthful, energetic, play a day Doug Collins out there, we need a ZEN MASTER.

TRC1991ParticipantJosh Pastner has ran that program so far into the ground. Just a disgusting mess.
