ChewyParticipantFirst off, he had another great game again today. Looks to be another good 2nd rd find for Larry Legend.
But did you guys see his interview? It was one of the worst I have seen in a looong time. He never really answered a single question and thanked God on EVERY question. I’m all for being proud of your religion and I’m used to athletes thanking god, but not on 8 spearate occations in a 2 and half minute interview.
No Joesph, your HS coach being at the summer league isn’t "a blessing." It is logistics of a car ride or plane trip.
I liked how he played, but damn that was a painful interview to watch…

sheltwon3ParticipantI liked his interview and what do you mean he did not answer any of the question. It makes people feel a certain kind of way when people thank God instead of themselves and he even gave credit to parents and his teammates. I think if the reporters wanted a different response they needed to adjust their questions. You could tell he was really happy and I think most people don’t want people to be generally happy. I know if made it in the NBA I would feel blessed too.

ChewyParticipantI agree, you could easily tell from looking at him how genuinly excited he is to be at Orlando SL and playing basketball for an NBA team. It is nice to see professional athletes showing appreciations for an opportunity given to them.

sheltwon3ParticipantWhat is inside a person that you actually made a post to talk about what a person is saying in a interview where they did nothing wrong. I mean we expect NBA players to respond like politicians or something. My thing is there are many things to focus on when a person is playing or doing an interview but I feel like this should be a non issue for most people. It should not bother you when a person is happy and not doing anything wrong. If he was doing something out of line I understand.

ChewyParticipantwhy there is a Shaqtin a Fool segment on TV. Anytime someone is really good or really bad at something it is interesting. I’m not saying JY is a bad person. I don’t know him so I’m assuming he is a good person, but he did give a really bad interview.
Ya, he is trying hard, but so were all the other people who got put on NBA Bloopers back in the day.

IndianaBasketballParticipantGive the kid a break lol. He seemed a little nervous. I’ve noticed during other interviews with the Pacers he sort of gets nervous and has trouble gathering his words.
He’s clearly just grateful and appreciating all of this. The opportunity, his family’s support, teammates, etc. I like the kid. He’s passionate. Very positive. A lot of energy and always smiling. Plus he can flat out ball. His interview skills will get better with time.

llperezdidnt see the interview but speaking of bad interviews, i remeber cringing every time jason kapono would talk. Dude would say "uhhh" half the time while he was gathering his thoughts and just really came off as uninteligent. And i know derrick rose is doing the smart thing by just giving off pc answers all the time, but could someone inject a little personality into him? Guy is text book "we played hard and fought as a team" type stuff. Throw in a joke or two or show some emotion and blast somebody from time to time. I started watching the nba around ’91 or ’92 and interviews were so much better, guys like barkely. I think the nba uses these rookie orientation camps to brain wash the new guys into not putting hteir foot in their mouths and to just be as cliche as possible but it gets boring. I want to see lebron one time get all richard sherman and talk about how dare they put that garbage defender on me, lol im rambling

TRC1991ParticipantJoseph Young = great kid, really nervous, not a good interviewer, but he’s giving credit where he feels it’s due.
Kid can hoop too. I’m a fan.

sitlbitoParticipantAs a European,it always sounds weird also. But I always tell myself to not judge other cultures. I’m just glad to know that maybe, some americans find it surprising as well. Again it’s not good or bad,the only thing I dislike is when people say "thank god " after being cancer free for example,I’m pretty sure the doctors have something to do with that. I’m exaggerating but maybe that’s what the OP said also,it’s not just God,it’s also your teammates, your coaches.

Sewok15ParticipantHere is a question….would you rather have Joe Young or James Young on your roster at this point?

ChewyParticipantJoe had a great Orlando summer league, but I’ll take the shooting of James.

Sewok15ParticipantHe was 17-66 last year and 2-13 in the Utah Summer league from 3. He is supposed to be a shooter but I haven’t seen it since college . I know this is a small sample size but it seems his confidence is really down.
Joe Young on the other hand has plenty of confidence. His ceiling is likely and instant offense 6th man ala Lou Williams but I still really like him. James has more potential for sure but I think Joe will end up being a bigger contributor throughout his NBA career.

TRC1991ParticipantYou’re disturbed in the mind if you’d take James Young…
Joseph Young can put the ball in the hoop every way possible. James Young has been junk.
