OnionsParticipantAnyone keeping an eye on this kid?
2014 PG from Florida, ranked 18th in ESPN and 22nd on Scout. He’s the only sophomore to ever win POY in Florida. He was projected to be a combo guard, and at 6-1, he was ranked accordingly (I think 80-100+ area), but over the last half year he’s developed into a true point guard and has shot up the rankings, and is still rising. A bit short at 6-1, but I believe he’s a bit young for his class and he has a really thick frame. Kind of a Lawson build.
The other day his game was on against Julius Randle’s Texas team on ESPNU and he controlled the game from the tip. Even took Randle out for a bit by drawing two charges on him in the first half and stripped him a few times. You have to be crazy to step in front of Randle when he has a full head of steam… On that day, he was easily the best player on the floor.
At the Peach Jam he led all players in assists with 7 a game to go along with his 17.2 ppg. This without his highly recruited big teammate, Dakari Johnson. Scouts called him the best defensive point guard (guard?) in the entire tournament.
When you watch him play… I don’t know how to say this other than he has complete control. He plays with a great pace, knowing when to go faster it or when to slow it down. He has a really nice change of pace to penetrate the defense.. His shot looks great and he shoots rather well. At the Peach Jam he shot 88% from the line on 50 attempts. Obviously he does a great job at getting to the basket, and consequently the free throw line. Also his defense is terrific. He’s a surprisingly good athlete who I have seen challenge post players at the rim.
I really think he’s going to be a Kyrie Irving type who hanged around 10-25 area and then shoots up late in his senior year to top 10-top 5.
If you want a comparison?.. I would say potentially Kyle Lowry with better PG skills.
Mix from his soph season doesn’t do him justice on how much he has grown in his game…

RICO 1981ParticipantYup , I watched that game trying to see randle in action and not just in highlights and berry stole the show . He jumped out at me from the very beginning of the game. I hope he keeps developing looks like he could be a good floor general.
