2nd round pick at best. I absolutely love Joe Harris, but I have some doubts about his ability to play at the NBA level. He has below average athleticism which will really limit him defensively in the league. His defensive ability (or lack thereof) has been masked by a really good system: the pack-line defense. He has developed a very nice offensive repertoire, but his ability to drive in the NBA will be really limited by the fact that he isn’t very athletic and he doesn’t have very advanced ball handling (he generally does straight drives to the basket). The one way I can really see him being a legitimate draft prospect is if he can really keep that shooting percentages up and show the NBA that he can be a good 3 point specialist in the league.

I have my reservations about Joe being an NBA player, but he is truly a special player at the college level and should, at the worst, be a very good professional overseas.

all we can do is guess….he is one of those guys that we look at him and base his upside on what he CAN’T do. sometimes those players end up having very long careers. Matt Harpring was a guy I thought was a great college player but would no way make a career in the NBA. When I think of Joe Harris, he reminds me of Wally Szczerbiak. Just as his defense has been masked, there are other parts of his game that could be opened up in the NBA. My guess is he succeeds, whether he gets drafted or not. Depending on the team, I would give him a look in the 1st round.

also, I want to add, I really like guys who were basically unknown coming out of HS. they work so darn hard to prove they can play with the best. Joe Harris wasnt even a top 100 player coming out of HS. He is a confident player who I am sure has a ridiculous work ethic….which is the main reason Bennett offered him a scholarship since he probably never envisioned him being an ACC POY candidate….at least not based on his talent level.
