Joe Bertrand of Illinois has really impressed me this season..he’s had three games where he’s been only one shot off of being perfect from the field ex:(8-9) and he has great athleticism as well as a decent mid-range game and respectable outside shot…where do you see him as an NBA prospect? He is only 6-5 so he is a tweener as he doesn’t have point guard handles. Thanks for your input!

He’s pretty good, I think. He’s extremely smooth off the bounce, plays with poise, and a nice athlete. He’s a developing shooter, but one with promise. I think he’s really come into his own though, I had never heard of him before the Mizzou game but he really killed it that game and in the game tonight too. He’s a late bloomer, but he’s gonna be a real intriguing prospect over the next 2-3 years. He has upside offensively.

Yeah he definitely has offensive potential that’s extreme, but I also find him having great defensive ability as he’s a long lanky and athletic.

Yeah, Iggy is right.  Bertrand was definitely a late bloomer, and I hadn’t really known much about him up to the start of this season.  But, during the Illini training camps and pre-season games Bertrand tended to impress me and stick out as a good scorer.  He led the Orange and White scrimmage in points over every current Illini player as well as some of the alumni which includes Deron Williams and Dee Brown.

I must say I have been very impressed with this young fellow and he is improving and maturing faster than anyone on this team, which is good for the future of the Illini, considering he is only a sophomore.

I am looking forward to the growth of Joseph Bertrand as an Illini and as a future prospect for higher levels of basketball.  With the success he has seen recently, there is no reasonable doubt in my mind that he should not be a future NBA player, even if it is as a rotation guy.  The dude should definitely make a roster, and has the potential and upside to be a very unique NBA prospect.
