ropeParticipantWith Chase Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman both on the same Bishop Gorman team, I have been trying to think of the last time a HS team had that kind of highly regarded size on their front line. I keep coming back to Rashard Griffith and Thomas Hamilton at Chicago King in the early 90’s. Hamilton was at LSU with Shaq for a short time. Neither Hamilton or Griffith did much in college or in the pros. Hopefully the Bishop Gorman pair fair a little better. For those that follow HS hoops and recruiting a little closer, can you think of a team of recent vintage that had a pair of big men that rivaled these two?

Robb_CParticipantHamilton’s son plays at DePaul.. Hamilton was very uncoachable when he was at King, he would routinely tell Landon Cox to "Sit his fat ass down" everytime he tried to sub him out of a game..

ropeParticipantLike I said, they didn’t amount to much. That didn’t keep them from being highly ranked recruits. I haven’t heard anything like that about Zimmerman and Jeter and I don’t actually expect to.
Just trying to make the point that it is pretty unusual to have two "All America" sort of big men on the same HS team. I couldn’t think of a more recent pair and just wondered if anyone else could.
I was wrong about Hamilton and Shaq at LSU. Hamilton bombed out of a couple colleges. It was Stanley Roberts who played with Shaq. He was a pretty big bust himself.

Robb_CParticipantJaime Brandon played with O’Neal at LSU… Hamilton never touched a college court and played a little in the NBA just for the sole fact of his size and natural skill.. Griffith played at Wisconsin with Michael Finley, Those were the glory years of Chicago basketball.. literally the talent was so deep in the city.

ropeParticipantLike I said in the reply above, I whiffed on Hamilton at LSU. It was Stanley Roberts was on the same team as Shaq.
Griffith and Hamilton were certainly hyped, though. Just looked back at the 1993 McDonalds All American Game rosters. Griffith was on it. Looking down it, so few of those guys panned out it is almost funny. Jerry Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace and little else with any impact.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantBrook Lopez was a McDonald’s All-American, and Robin Lopez was a consensus 5 star recruit too. I believe Quincy Pondexter was on their high school team as well. Quite an impressive 3, 4, and 5 at the high school level.

ropeParticipantThank you for reminding me of the obvious miss on my part. I am thinking there might have been a couple of more actual twin towers. The Wear brothers had some buzz coming out of HS, but didn’t make an impact at UNC and transfered. They will probably be fringe NBA players, at best. The Morris brothers, while not 7 footers, alos played together in HS, college and now the pros.
I knew you guys would come up with some good examples. I think all that follow recruting are intrigued by big men.
It is completely unrelated, but my best friend in HS was 6′ 10". He married a women who was 6′ 4" and both their boys are over re over 7′ 0" and hated basketball. They picked up guitars instead and started a band. Could you imagine, though, being a High School coach and watching two seven footers walking around the halls who wanted nothing to do with the sport.

TimeForNineParticipantThat reminds me of the 7’2 or 7’3 guy that walked on to LSU after being discovered by their coach when he was playing tuba for the LSU band.

SpacegrassParticipantCharlie Villanueva and Luol Deng at Blair Academy class of 2003
Mitch McGary and TJ Warren were top 25ish recruits who ended up being 1st round picks in the 2012 class from Brewster Academy
Those are the only 2 I can remember recently that were relatively high recruits and 1st round NBA picks. Though Warren and Deng are SF but none the less front court guys.
