Jerry Sloan said a "couple" NBA teams have called him to discuss a possible return to coaching.
Sloan, who has been linked to both the Nets and the Bucks so far, described the calls as exploratory and said there are no job offers are on the table. The Nets option is an intriguing one due to the Deron Williams factor, but ESPN's Chris Broussard reported Sloan is a "long-shot candidate" for Brooklyn's vacancy and Sloan himself said the Nets are not one of the teams that called him. At this point, it appears Sloan is making a concerted effort to put his name in the running, but it remains to be seen if there's an NBA team willing to bite at the moment.
I think there will be 4 or 5 teams with new coaches next season ?
"I think there will be 4 or 5 teams with new coaches next season ?"
Are you asking us or telling us?
Hawks (likely Drew is let go)
TWolves (Rick could retire)
Is Stan Van Gundy interested in the Nets coaching job? I think he can run an offense similar to the one he ran in Orlando. He'd have the Scoring center in the post in Brook Lopez and add some shooters around him to spread the floor.
Don't forget Clippers will be getting a new coach as well.
It makes no sense why the Nets wouldnt want sloan unless there is a problem between deron williams and him. He would be the perfect fit with the veteran team.
i was thinking the same thing, either nets or clippers would be a great fit
I think it would be great if he starts coaching again. For me Sloan is a real icon of the game!
Jerry Sloan is being "seriously considered" for the Bucks' vacant head coaching job, according to Sam Amick of USA Today.
The same report suggests that "a reunion [of Sloan] with ... Deron Williams is not on the horizon." Sloan is one of at least five coaches to have interviewed with the Bucks, joining Nate McMillan, Kelvin Sampson, J.B. Bickerstaff and Steve Clifford, the latter of whom interviewed on Monday.
Sloan is a great coach, but he can't just coach any team. He has to have the right personnel. He needs players who are smart and can execute offense. Imagine him coaching the Bucks if they retained Brandon Jennings. Sloan would probably end up pulling a reverse Sprewell.
I'd actually like to see him coach the Clippers if CP3 re-ups with them. They need more structure to their offense and CP3 could run it.
I think the Kings need a strong coach like Sloan. He could discipline Cousins similarly to what George Karl did to Javale McGee
