They are still very young 22 and 21. Didn’t really watch them this year and stats can be misleading on a very bad basketball team. How are Favors and Kanter doing? Are they going to become the All Star players people were thinking?

Will they become all-stars? I don’t know, but they definitively still have the potential to.

They’re still young and a few years away from their prime. Big men tend to take longer to develop.

Favors is a solid defensive player. He’s also strong and athletic. If he continues to improve on the defensive end and develops an offensive move or two, then he could arguably be playing at an all-star level. He had all around better numbers than Roy Hibbert this season.

Kanter is talented on the offensive side of the ball. He didn’t have too bad of numbers this season. He may never become a shot blocker, but if he becomes a more aggressive defensive player , then he too could possibly be an all-star.

The biggest problem they may face is playing in the talented Western Conference. There are a ton of great front court players, and now that the NBA doesn’t include centers as their own group to vote for, It may be tough.

I still believe that they can coexist in Utah. Once they get used to playing together, they could definitely be a problem for a lot of teams in the league.

With the clear out of Big Al and Milsap I think everyone expected them to really make a huge stride and has really put the pressure on them. They are two great players, and to think they could replace them or provide the same production ages 22 and 21 is ridiculous.

They should draft another for insurance policy(Randle). You can never have too many bigs ask OKC’s front office.

Here’s hoping the next great big drops to 4 (rather than his projected getting picked in any of the top 3 spots) for all the Utah fans out there.

I think that Favors has the potential to be one of the best defensive PF’s in the game. If his offense continues to improve, he will be one of the best 2 way bigs in the NBA.  Im still unsure about Kanter, his defense was pretty awful throughout the season.

I always seem to imagine Favors getting better and better but I can’t say the same for Kanter. In saying that I belive Kanter can be a solid starting center but if I had to pick one to make the all-star team it’d be Favors.

I will reserve final judgement for at least 1 more year, because I feel that the Jazz had a poor coaching staff for the last 2 1/2 seasons.  But as of right now, I am not seeing the drive and desire that I hoped to see from Kanter or Favors.  If they’re going to co-exist, Kanter needs to develop a 3 point shot and I don’t know that that will happen.

I really think that Kanter could be part of a draft day trade if it turns out that the Jazz need or want to move up into the top 4.  The Jazz have to start moving their young pieces around this offseason.  They will just have too many young players with 3 more draft picks and Neto potentially coming over.

Give them another 2 or 3 years to develop but who here thinks they will actually be better than Milsap and Al Jeff when they were in their prime ?

Speaking of Milsap and Al Jeff, they let them go for virtually nothing. Did the Jazz actually get anything back for either of these two players ?

really don’t like the two together- neither has the range or the foot speed to play the 4 full time. Like the majority of you, I prefer Favors as a two way player.

What I’d LOVE to see happen is some sort of trade between the Jazz and the Celtics. The Celts have two up and coming power forwards- Olynyk and Sullinger- and the Jazz have two up and coming centres. A trade could make everything better- it’s just a hell of a job making the two sides balance.

I’ve been thinking the same thing about a trade between the Celtics and Jazz. As a Celtics fan, I’d prefer to have Favors due to his defense and shot blocking ability.

I think they’re a combo worth persisting with because they are still young and good forward combinations take a few more years to develop.

I really like the Jazz young nucleus but I’d be reluctant to over-pay Hayward because I think a lot of those guys are going to need to be paid in the 8-10m range and Hayward isn’t worth 2 of them.

He’s a nice player (but not a max player) and if they have to let him go, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I’d even like to see them trade down to get one of the good wings in the 8-12 range if they can get something in return of value.

Favors is making progress on the offensive side of the ball. I think that he will be a defensive anchor for the Jazz for years to come that 4 years $44mil was a steal for what they could potentially be getting down the road. I don’t think that he will ever be a 1st option on the offensive side of the ball but with his finishing ability he will be a solid 2nd option. It’s to know that he just finished his 4th season in the NBA and he’s still only 22 years old.

Kanter I think will be a good low post scorer and he’s a decent rebounder but as far as defense goes I doubt he won’t be any better than average. He does have a good strong body with long arms but he’s not very explosive and he’s a bit slow footed. But, I do think he could possibly become a 19ppg scorer and 9rpg down the road. I think that he could be an all star down the road.

As a Jazz fan I am pleased of how Favors looked last year, his offense actually improved more than I thought it would and it showed promise that he will be much better next year. Kanter has great moves down low and showed a good mid range jumper but his defense was terrilbe, because of his age and experience I think that can improve and become acceptable but it does need to improve . Both need to get comfortable playing with each other and that didn’t progress as much as it could have because Corbin chose to play Marvin Williams as a stretch 4 and Favors and Kanter didn’t really get that much time on the floor together. It’s true they didn’t play that well together but the last couple of weeks of the season they started getting more PT together and they showed improvement playing together. Kanter talked about showing that he can start shooting the 3 next year and I think he can, his Turkish coach said he was the best shooter on their team and Okur is supposed to come to SLC and work with Kanter this off season. If Kanter can develop the 3 as part of his game then he can be the stretch 4/5 the Jazz need and make Favors and Kanters existance on the floor more productive. Time will tell.  I would mind Randle with the 4th or 5th pick if that is what the Jazz end up with but Gobert could push for more PT next year and so the Jazz really need more perimeter help, especially a backup point guard (or maybe a starter & push Burke to the backup). Ideally Parker is who the Jazz could get he would provide the Jazz with exactly what they need, a big 3 who can play 3 or 4 and could become the number one option, the Jazz have several players who are best as 2nd or 3rd options on the offensive end, they need a number one option.  As much as I like Kanter , I could see him being an option in a trade if it brought the right peaces back.

Derrick Favors should not be considered Utah’s franchsie center. He was a below-average defender last season at the position; struggling especially against strong, physical post-scorers. With him as our anchor, the Jazz were the worst defensive team in the league last season. He’s a good shot-blocker, but his best quality defensively is his ability to guard the pick-and-roll. Playing as a power forward would better utilize his defensive strengths.

I like both him and Kanter, but neither player has shown that they’re capable of playing well together at the same time. Defense aside, they would synergize better if both improved their passing and Kanter developed his in-game range beyond the three-point line. Some assume that these attributes will come with time and experience, though I remain skeptical.

I may be alone in hoping Utah leaves this year’s draft with Joel Embiid. He’d be the defensive anchor that the Jazz have been missing since Mark Eaton, without overtly conflicting with Derrick Favors offensively.

Millsap and Jefferson both expired and were unrestricted FAs so went elsewhere although both took maybe less money than we thought they might get. I always said that Utah would probably wanted to retain one of them and run a 3 man frontcourt rotation with the guy they kept and Kanter and Favours.

Where we are with Favours and Kanter is hard to judge, they are still only 22 and 21 years old respectively but then we see Monroe and Drummond at Detroit who came into the league in 2010 and 2012 and they look a legit starting unit whilst Kanter and Favours haven’t quite gelled yet.

Kanter and Favours might have been held back a bit playing behind Big Al and Millsap although they did see good minutes so I’m prepared to hold judgement on them as they need time to adjust to a starters role no matter how high they were drafted.

Favours was extended last summer for a reasonable amount and I’d look for Utah to try and give Kanter a similar type deal. Whilst we still have issues whether both can play together, it makes sense to get Kanter tied down so if they do trade one then they will get good value and it stops the other walking away or them having to match a big RFA offer.

The issue of perimeter defending needs to be looked at as Utah were using Marvin Williams as a starting PF due to his perimeter based game. Lots of teams can run genuine big men in tandem without one being a noted perimeter shooter, we don’t expect either Kanter or Favours to become a Dirk 3 point shooter but they need to look at their mid range game and learn perimeter defence.

The Pacers happily use David West alongside Big Roy Hibbert but David has a a good basketball IQ and uses this to play good defence away from the basket. The Grizzlies use Gasol and Z-Bo as a highly effective big unit and whilst Z-Bo has a good shooting range, he isn’t the greatest defender but works well with Marc Gasol.

The thing may be that whilst Kanter and Favours are good defenders, neither is an elite defensive guy like the above mentioned Hibbert and Gasol so whilst they may be individually better defenders than a lot of NBA big men as a duo they don’t quite work.

I think Utah need to really try to figure out how to fit both guys into the starting line up and play them in tandem for part of the game. Luckily the Jazz have an interesting young 7 footer plus guy in Rudy Gobert who they can introduce more into the mix and hopefully find the right combination for all 3 guys.
