We all knew that the Celtics would have selected Markelle Fultz #1 overall, but now they have slid back two spots and are favored to select Josh Jackson. The conflict of interest is that Danny Ainge drafted Jaylen Brown in the previous draft who happens to play the same position as Jackson. What does the future hold for Brown now that Jackson is likely to be selected?

My Cs traded the number 1 pick because they weren’t interested in Fultz. They don’t believe he’s a transcendent type of player (Shaq, lebron, AD, etc), that’s a fair assessment that agree with. Also the talent drop between picks 1-5 aren’t that far off. Josh Jackson and Jaylen Brown can play together, one plays the 3 the other plays the two. Either or can play the small ball 4 because of there defense/potential and versatility.

It was argued that Brown was more comfortable and had more success at the 2 last year. Stevens doens’t look at it one to 5. Ball handler, wing, swing and big are how he sees it. So it can slot two wings, two swings, two ball handlers whatever he wants. I can see them playing together.

Good points. The question I have is does that limit the gaurds they can put on the floor at any given time.  If brown is the 2 and Jackson is the 3 then IT is your 1 and Smart and Bradley are relegated to a bench role.  I guess what I’m saying is Jackson seems a bit redundant to me.  I know two way wings dominant the league so I can see the logic but if this is the route the Celtics go they will be phasing out Bradley and Crowder and I could see them taking a step back this year.  That’s a tough sell to a fan base who was the #1 seed and currently holds a Kings ransom of future picks.

Also if Ainge decides to draft a Jackson at 3 and hold onto assets, how do you see the main core minutes being distributed among the top 8 players

Aigne traded the pick because Fultz wanted to play in Philly and Aigne wants one of the forwards anyway so its a win win.  Nobody said anything about Fultz not being a transcendent talent and the idea with the first pick is to get the best player in the. current draft, so bringing up players from past drafts is fruitless.

What he did say was he felt there were several IMPACT players at the top.  Its probably between Tatum, Jackson, Isaac or  Dennis Smith.

They may not ever see the court together, because it appears Ainge is trying to make a play for Jimmy Butler.

yep and their is a strong consideration if they don’t make a deal for Tatum iven if Jackson is there.

Ball is now almost a lock to LA with them shopping Russell, but I think it has a small chance of addding fuel to the idea of taking Jackson if they can get a high enough 2nd pick to grab Fox or Smith.

Not sure why Boston would want Tatum over the more versatile Jackson , other than trade bate but that apparently is a strong possibility and another reason why they knew they could trade down and get him even if Jackson goes 2 and feel Tatum could thrive with the other players in that core including the different style of play in Brown. Tatums mid range game could allow him to play the 4.

Doug Gottlieb believes they’re taking Jayson Tatum.

A bit more info out there now.  It seems Ainge knows who he wants. Hes just going to bleed as many assets out of this as he can. Hes doing a helluva job. If he can get this  player any lower than 3, he’ll trade again.

    So who is it?

If its JJ, as long as the Lakers don’t take him, they’ll keep the pick and draft him at 3. If the Lakers draft JJ, Ainge will be shopping the pick at the last minute. That may mean making a pick for another team to trade for a vet.

If it’s Tatum (or Isaac) they’ll hope the Lakers don’t pick him, then Ainge can shop the pick to Phoenix so the Suns get JJ or shop it to the Kings so they can take Fox, and then Boston take their player at 4 or 5.

Celtics are going to try do the following:

Try for a star first-Butler or P.G(after the get a promise offHayward) if this fails before draft they then try for the following:

The call the Suns and see who they want and trade the 3rd for the 4th and the heat 2018 pick…

The Celtics then Take who ever is left out of  Fox ,Jackson and Taytum..Taytum can play PF or SF  and Jaylen can play SF or SG if they get Jackson- Jaylen can play Sf or SG and Jackson could play PF(once he bulks up),SF or SG(if the shot gets better)..Fox doesn’t really effect Brown to much..

If Suns won’t cough up any assets they call the Kings and see how badly they want Fox/who ever and trade down for either Youth and 5th ot 5th + future pick for 3rd pick..

The difference between a 2 and a 3 is pretty arbitrary, they are both wings, after all. Brown can coexist with Jackson or Tatum.

I agree that they will trade down again if they can to the Kings. The Kings really want Fox and unless Danny really prefers one of Jackson/Tatum over the other, by definition one of them will be available at 5.

What would it take to get WCS included in this deal? The C’s really need rebounding and interior defense. Crowder? (who is expendable if they take Tatum/Jackson and land Hayward).

I could see Ainge taking Isaac 3rd.  He seems to value physical tools over collegiate production.

maybe but doubtfull as it is unlikely they are interested in any of the longterm high upside prospects with this being basically the end of their rebuild. I think Tatum is the most nba ready player in the top 10 and makes a ton of sense if they don’t trade it for a vet. DSmith is also a sleeper here if they are moving roatation guards in a Butler or similar deal but intend to keep the 3rd pick prospect.
