Ricky BobbyParticipantDoes anybody see any Dirk in Jan Vesely. I think Vesely’s athleticism is out of this world for his size. Hopefully he will pan out and won’t be one of those European flops. Im talking to you Darko and Nikoloz Tskitishvilli.

ilike.panochasParticipantNo, I don’t see Dirk in Vesely at all. Vesely is an ok shooter, but not great like Nowitzki was coming out from Germany. Vesely struggles to create his own shot, unlike Nowitzki. And Vesely is way above Nowitzki as far as athleticism and speed. The Vesely = Nowitzki comparison is pretty far off to me.

arshavin123ParticipantI think he’s overrated,no way should he be no.3, he’s a tweener, does not have a go- to move, not too physical and his game is undeveloped.. Pick 10-15

RafterParticipantThey’re both completely different players, Vesley has great defensive potential, he’s already a better defender then Dirk ever was. I really can’t imagine seeing Vesley dominate offensively the way Dirk does.
Vesley is a much better athlete then Dirk, actually, Vesley is very American-like as a prospect, he isn’t a "typical" European prospect. He’s not as fundamentally sound or polished then past european prospects. But he’s probably one of the best athletes to ever come out of europe.

ChrispyParticipantI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… Tom Chambers

ilike.panochasParticipantBased on what? His hops? Chambers was a dominant offensive player in his time and had seasons where he averaged 23-27PPG

ChrispyParticipantIn no way am I saying that he will be Tom Chambers 2.0. I was simply throwing out what I see as a much better player comparison than Dirk. Vesely runs the floor and fills lanes like Tom and yes he has otherworldy hops like Chambers, but he also has the ability to stretch D’s with his J, much like Tom. While I doubt he will ever come close to Chambers, I just see it as a better comp.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantI once new a girl named Jan. She had big breasts.
That is all.

On a more serious note, Vesely reminds me of a more fluid and athletic Viktor Khryapa. Not quite the decision maker as Khryapa, but much quicker and far more athletic. Both are pretty streaky shooters, but you can’t just leave them wide open or they’ll make a few. Like someone earlier said, Vesely isn’t a typical European prospect in the aspect that he’s more athletic and potential-based rather than skill based. Vesely has the athleticism that most prospects from overseas lack, which is a huge plus in the eyes of all the scouts. I like the kids game, and he has improved by leaps and bounds in that past year-year and a half. Who knows, with the right developmental coaching(mainly on his dribbling/creating his own shot) he can become a very solid player in the Association.
