I really like this kid’s game. He’s very smooth and he can rack up points quietly, not needing the ball to be effective.  The mix doesn’t show it, but he’s got a very nice feel for the game.  He knows how to move without the ball, he doesn’t play around with it when he gets it and he makes the simple pass.  He’s gonna be a good one.  He’ll probably be one and done so hopefully he goes to a school where he can learn something while he’s there. IOW, not Kentucky.

how is he on the break?

how is he one on one?

      how is his athleticism?

      how is his defense?

      how is his passing?

      how are his handles?

how is his pull up game?

      .

I think he is smooth, he does have a consistent jumpshot, can stroke threes.

His ‘drive-in’ game is very reliant on length, no really breakdown skills and much less first step.

      .

aaron harrison has all the moves listed above, and i just cant see how some one can say james young is better. or better than chris walker, kasey hill, or aaron gordon for that matter

i bet if aaron played him he would destroy him.

         Good

        Decent

Has the physical tools to be good.

        Good

        OK

        Good

I like his game a bit more than Aaron’s currently, but they’re both really good.  Aaron might be currently more skilled, especially off the bounce but Young looks like he understands the finer points of team basketball.  Young is more economical with his touches. He doesn’t play with the ball, he doesn’t immediately face up his defender as soon as he touches the ball looking to iso.  He’ll move the ball unselfishly, move without the ball, find the creases in the D for easier shots, slide into spots for catch and shoot opps, etc.  Aaron is a lot like his brother, they both like to be the ones who make the play, which means they’ll take turns dominating the ball, isoing on the perimeter and sometimes making questionable decisions.  Aaron has supreme confidence in his shot, which is great, but it also leads to him taking some really bad shots.  Instead of making the simple play Aaron will try to make the superstar play, like contested stepback 3’s, walk up 30 footers, long unncecessary fadeaways, etc.

just because aaron likes to have the ball and is better with with it, you cant really say he doesn’t operate well without it.

he spots up all the time for his brother and is pretty damn good at it, showing better mechanics than young. he finds a ton of backdoor cuts as well.

he is much better off the ball than andrew, also
