James McAdoo

Why is everyone so high on this guy? He hasn't impressed me at all. Every game I've seen this season (admittedly I've only seen 3 or 4 UNC games), he's turned the ball over a lot and doesn't really do anything spectacular. He also doesn't seem as athletic as people make him out to be. Am I missing something?

He has hype because of his

He has hype because of his pedigree, HS ranking, he's fairly athletic and the fact that he's the man at a blue blood school. Look deeper and he's nothing special as an NBA prospect. He's more productive this year, but his skill set is still underwhelming. You're not missing anything.
I don't think he's a scrub or anything. In fact, I still have him in the lotto. I just don't think he is the Top 5 prospect he was touted to be, nor do I think he has star player potential. I think he can be a slightly undersized, smart activity guy who can get garbage buckets, transition buckets and the occasional short jumper.

I find him to be a soft

I find him to be a soft player who doesn't do anything great....he's a good leaper but hes stiff and doesn't have a strong back to basket game or a great shot. I don't think he'll ever be more than a rotational PF. He has improved a bit since last year....but he was really terrible to me last year so he could only get better

Other than Lawson and

Other than Lawson and Hansbourgh, most of Roy's recruits at unc are soft.

I like him more than others

I like him more than others on this site.... his talent is undeniable... idc what anybody says.... hes improved a good amount since last yr... but he was def. overhyped b4 the season and I knew he wasn't going to uphold that praise (most raw young guys don't at first)... still extremely early.... he will likely never play 3 in the nba...I do have confidence that he can play four full time in the league...but my god is he soft as hell.... yesterday he fumbled the ball around the rim like several times, he just isn't psychical (which I expected) he and UNC will get better after that lost.... but I as thought about it more.. I just don't have much faith in roy Williams to coach a young team that lost four guys in the draft

For some an elite

For some an elite prospect...
This might have look like an asz-hole but me and Siggy were the only ones who had him outside of the top 10 pre-season and stated how he was nothing spectacular.
...I feel like i have an advanced eye for scouting...

LOL,this is almost like the

LOL,this is almost like the Bashing the Cavs got for taking Waiters so early..

I'm going to look back at this post about a year from now, when McAdoo is having a better then expected rookie year..People attack him becuz he's too laid back and doesnt have the explosiveness that blows you away...He's only going to get better..And having a coach like Roy Williams that doesnt know how to teach young talent..He has a throwback old school game, that better fits the nba...People attacked James Worthy and Brad Daughtery for being too soft and not athletic enuff...

Dont 4get that alot of teams were hoping he would've came out last season, they had him rated higher than Barnes....

I'm not attacking him. I just

I'm not attacking him. I just said from what I've seen, he hasn't wowed me at all. He could very well get better and have a great season and be one of the top picks, but right now nothing about him sticks out to me. But like I said, I haven't seen too many UNC games this year so I could be wrong.

Jurry is still out for me,

Jurry is still out for me, right now though I wouldn't take him in the top 5.

exactly why

exactly why i was baffled at the fact he was number 2 on arans big board , their is nothing mcadoo does that translates well in the nba. Im sure he can be a good quality starter eventually but i dont see an advanced player in him.

If only Mcadoo worked as hard

If only Mcadoo worked as hard as Dolph Ziggler does in the ring

The new mock has him at 13!

That's a pretty big fall in excepted draft position. From top 5 to the tail end of the lottery. I haven't seen UNC play yet but I will probably see the UNC-Indy game tomorrow ( I love DVR's). He sat the bench so much last year and guys not used to that don't know how to learn from the bench. I'm guessing that's were the turnovers are coming from as he is adjusting to major minutes and being a focal point of the offense. I bet the struggles of Derrick Williams play into his falling perceived stock. A tweener that cant defend the 3 is always going to take heat and Mcadoo doesn't have the shot that Derrick Williams has. He's tougher but not taller and that doesn't farewell at the next level. He's such a solid guy that I think he will eventually be back in the top 10. From Thomas Robinson to Marcus Morris, its tough being a 3/4 and there is a big learning curve. It ussually turns these guys into jump shooters because they are never quick enough to beat natural 3's off the dribble.

He looked really heady and

He looked really heady and skilled coming out of high school, with nice touch inside the paint and from outside, someone who had played the game all his life and played it naturally. He's supposed to be a really good guy off the court too so all that together, along with his family history, made him seem like a surefire prospect. For whatever reason, he's been the complete opposite of the composed, heady player he was supposed to be. Last year I thought it had to do with coming off the bench for the first time and not knowing how to get his rhythm because he played much better when he started during the ACC Tournament. I don't know what's the issue this season. He's getting stuffed in embarrassing fashion by guys with no shot at the NBA, turning the ball over a ton and missing a ton of good open looks. The game doesn't look like it's slowed down for him at all, thus far anyway.
