I really liked what I saw from Jabari (on offense) last year in the 2nd half. He shook the rust off from his ACL repair and put up some great numbers after the All Star break.. to the tune of 19pts, 6rebs, 2assists, 1stl. I know it didn’t translate to a ton of wins (13-17 post AS Break) but he showed some real scoring punch that could be difference making for the Bucks moving forward.

Further breaking down his play in February and beyond, he showed a full array of moves and hustle on offense. He scored on fadeaways, offensive rebounds, dribble drives to the basket in the half-court and transition (left & right hand), cuts, pump-fakes, FT’s, and baseline dunks. Coach Kidd has said that Parker will stretch his game out to the 3pt line more this season, and if he can improve his defense to a league average level.. I think a full-fledge breakout will be upon us in 2016-17.

High profile wing players typically take a big leap their 3rd season. Personally IMO, I think Jabari is a tad below the guys I’m about to mention, but not much. Grant Hill averaged 21/9/7 his third year. Paul Pierce averaged 25/6/3 in his third year. Carmelo averaged 26/5/3 his third year. Glenn Robinson averaged 21/6/3 his third year. So my point is that Jabari could average 20pts per game with a slight increase in minutes & role, with solid rebounding (especially if Greg Monroe is traded) and passing coupled with good percentages. He seems like a great guy too on the surface, which is more reason why I’m pulling for him to be successful. My per game stat-line prediction:

    20pts, 6.5rebs, 2.3 assists, 5FT attempts, 79%FT, 0.7 three’s per game, 34% 3pt, 1.1stls

I got the chance to actually play pickup ball with him about a month ago, then talk some UNC smack to him.  He is a good dude and I hope he breaks out.   Just a really friendly guy.

I always say this but Jabari would be so much better I feel if he weren’t drafted by the Bucks. Kidd made Parker gain a lot of weight because he wants him to play the 4 spot bad. And at the 4 spot, all the shots he gets are dumpoffs or spot up shots. It’s so frustrating because he clearly is one of the most skilled players ever at his age. He is capable of so much more if he has the ball on his hads.

If Parker would be drafted by the Sixers or something, and be allowed to play the 3, man would he explode. He has better handles than about 80% of the SFs in the league. He is super creative at getting his own shot. He has that rare blend of strength and athletiscm, especially when he was thinner. And his jumpshot is cash.

He is being super surpressed in Milwaukee, but it’s hard to blame them because it would be hard for Giannis and Parker to play 2 and 3. I just couldn’t help buut think what couldve happened if he were drafted by the Sixers or if the Jazz traded up to get him.

I think he’s actually better off playing the 4, especially if he continues to extend his range and starts making 3s consistently. Playing him at the 4 gives him a quickness advantage, and allows him to utilize his creativity off the dribble and natural scoring instincts better. He is deadly at attacking closeouts, but right now he hasn’t proven himself to be a consistent enough shooter for defenses to consistently close out hard to him. If he can improve his outside shooting and playmaking skills, the sky is the limit for him offensively.

I definitely think pf is the position he is best served playing in today’s NBA. Defensively, he still needs to improve, but he could probably eventually grow into one of those guys that can guard either position, particularly with the versatility in their lineup.

Part way through the year, the Bucks made the adjustment to have Jabari defend SFs and let Giannis use his length to cover PFs.  And they started to unleash him offensively in the 2nd half of the year too.  Besides that, he’s in great shape relative to his time in HS and at Duke.  Milwaukee’s done a fine job of developing him IMO.

If he can start knocking down jump shots he’s going to be a tough scorer, he’s already a mismatch with his handles at the 4 spot, and his size on the wing. If he can start hitting the mid range shot and being creative in the post Melo like I can see him hitting 20 a game at around a 45-48% fg percentage

In college, I watched Jabari and thought he would kill it as a 3, then going to the Bucks I heard crazy talk of even bulking him up more to be the big, playing mainly 4 but some 5.

Having Parker, Giannis and Middleton, the Bucks have guys that can switch between positions better than most teams.
These hybrid swiss army knife guys and point forwards come at all skill levels (Draymond, LeBron, Simmons, Diaw, Jeff Green, Quincy Acy, Batum, Evan Turner, Crowder). I think if they could get their hands on a couple more of these guys and just put a 5 out there that go positionless and just play basketball, they will be ahead of the curve. Giannis at PG is just ridiculous as it is.

I agree that I could see 20ppg being in his range this year, he is effectively playing as a tweener at the moment playing one role on offence and another on defence and with the NBA moving on, he may become alongside the Greek Freak one of the best new type of multi position NBA players.

He’ll probably be the Bucks main scoring threat this year too and as he works on his range the his shooting will get more efficient and he’ll learn when to take the shot and when not to. He’s got Kidd to help mentor him and tell hin where to position himself to get the best shooting chances.

He will benefit hugely too from doing a full pre-season, he managed 76 games after his return and being sharper to go from day one will give him real confidence to have a full and successful season.
