TarHeelRavenParticipantHaven’t seen Hicks on any of the mock drafts on here. Could he be an NBA player? Strong, athletic, quick, great touch around the rim, has really stepped up with Kennedy Meeks out for Carolina. I think he has hit double figures in every game since Meeks has been out. He has been coming off the bench but has been in over Joel James during the most important stretches of games. Had 21 last night in the Carrier Dome off some great passes from Brice Johnson. He has really improved his free throw shooting and is at about 80 percent this year. Could be a good energy guy off the bench in the league.

SpacegrassParticipantHell yes! He is an NBA player. Jumper has developed along with FT shooting and he will be very good at pick and roll at the next level. He tries to dunk everything or at least finish at the rim when possible and gets to the line at a high rate. Needs to get better at staying out of foul trouble. He is very athletic and really quick with his first step especially taking big guys faced up out of the midpost areas. Kid has a lot of upside for someone his age and imo is UNC 2nd best big man. He should comeback one more season and be the horse inside scoring threat for UNC and show he can do that. I think he has strong potential to be a 18 and 8 guy if given 28-30 MPG in a featured role. He has always had the talent he needed to develop his feel for the game and has made the jump this season I thought he would make last year.

TRC1991ParticipantHe will have his chance to prove it next year with Johnson and Meeks graduating

SpacegrassParticipantMeeks will be a Sr next season. They are both Jrs. Meeks was more skilled and polished coming in so he got more time then Hicks. Now that skill gap has closed.

ncballerRumor around Chapel Hill is that Meeks is gone after this season. Don’t ask me why, as he has not played consistently well enough this to warrant a draft choice IMHO. But Tokoto left last season and I think Meeks has a much better chance at sticking to a team than JP.
Hicks has a knack for getting fouled and has improved his free throw percentage, which makes him very dangerous. There are very few players that can keep up with his lateral quickness and he can guard the perimeter. He needs to improve on the glass and foul trouble. I think his comparison and role in the NBA is similar to another UNC guy that we all know and love, James Michael McAdoo. Someone that can come in for 5-15 minutes a game to give a lot of energy.

TarHeelRavenParticipantIf that’s true then Meeks is an idiot. He would go undrafted and probably end up playing in the D League or overseas. I thought Meeks had a chance to have a Sean May 04-05 type of year this year. I guess my expectations were unrealistic. May was unstoppable in 05 and was an absolute beast all season. He later told people about what his offseason workouts in some interview and it sounded like he absolutely dedicated himself everyday to being a complete monster and working his ass off. I guess I wanted Meeks to be a beast more than Meeks wanted to be. I think he is what he is right now. He has worked really hard to get into great shape compared to what he was when he came in as a freshman. He is not a killer like Sean May and Hansbrough was. He is fun-loving guy and you see him hamming it up on the bench all the time. I don’t think he lives and breathes basketball like other guys which is okay, I just thought he had a chance to be a great college player.

BiggysmallsParticipantDon’t see it. Haven’t watched enough UNC this year, but man Hicks is one of those guys that seems to either make incredibly stupid plays or really good plays.
I’ll say this, for better or worse, he’s one of the most active players in the country. Like something always happens when he’s out there.
Still don’t like his shot selection, though he’s generally pretty efficient. Is he any good defensively?
Would like to see him stay anouther year so the team doesn’t drop off next year.
@TARHeelRaven…does UNC have anybody of note signed up for next year? Surprised that their recruiting hasn’t been great lately. Going to need guys like Hicks and Pinson to really step up next year, especially if Meeks is an idiot and leaves.

ncballerThe past few games Hicks has been more on the positive side of plays. He has figured out that he is more athletic than 90% of the PF’s that guard him and has a strength advantage over most, so that gets him to the line a lot where he has improved a ton since he got to UNC. The past few games I have seem him utilize much better his face-up game as well as picking his spots to catch passes for easy layups and dunks. He has good lateral quickness which makes him versatile, but he fouls way too much. I think he needs to add a mid range game and get back to the fundamentals rebounding if he is to be anything more than 10 minute energy guy on the next level. I really think he relies on his athletic advantage too much at the moment and he won’t have the same advantage at the next level.
I am not TarHeelRaven, but I have seen all of UNC’s signees play at least once. Seventh Woods is hard to project in terms of immediate impact. Depends on if he can consistently stay in attack mode or not. Brandon Robinson is a 4 year shooter who will help with floor spacing once he gets some strength. Tony Bradley has some really boring mixtapes and a somewhat low pro ceiling, but in terms of college impact he is very ready. The guy plays to his strengths and has a great motor. I will make a bold statement and say he matches Meeks’ output as a feshman if Meeks is an idiot and goes pro.

SpacegrassParticipantI know Bradley isn’t an elite athlete but his measureables and skillset have to make make him somewhat attractive as a pro prospect. As of summer of 2015 he was listed at 6’10" 248 with a 7’4" wingspan. Kid has a nice jumper as well especially for a center. He reminded me some of Bryan Cook that played at Illinois about a decade ago.

ncballerGood call with the Cook comparison! While Bradley’s outside game is developing, I think he can get to Cook’s level. One thing about Bradley is that the kid’s character is through the roof. He is one of the best people you will meet. His coaches and teammates love him, and he has a workhorse work ethic. I think we are really going to enjoy him at UNC for 3 to 4 years.
