I went to the Iona Marist game today at the McCann Center at Marist College. Iona won 100-76. I just went to the game to see Scott Machado, Mike Glover and Lamont "MoMo" Jones. The place is a very small gym so I was able to get really close to the players and I sat right behind the Iona bench. I just wanted to share my experience at the game and tell you guys what I saw. I know this game was against Marist, not Duke or UNC, so take that into consideration.

Scott Machado looked pretty good. He is able to dribble by defenders, get into the lane with ease and look for someone to dish the ball to or get a shot for himself. He was throwing passes right on the money to his teammates, and that really impressed me. He always has his head up on fast breaks, just like Kendall Marshall. He did not take one shot from the perimeter, so I couldn’t really tell if he could shoot or not. All of his points came on layups or free throws. He looked like he had a pretty good stroke in warm-ups before the game. I’m pretty sure he is a good shooter though because he is very good from the free throw line (over 80%). He is also pretty small, (listed at 6-1) but I think he might be even shorter that that because i’m 6-2 and when I was standing a few feet away from him in warm-ups he seemed shorter then 6-1. Final stat line 5-10 FG’s, 16 PTS, 9 AST’s, and 4 TO’s.

Michael Glover also looked pretty good. He also did not take a shot outside of point blank rage, because he did not even have to. I would have liked to seem him shoot the ball though so I could see his overall game. He was absolutely destroying Marist inside on both ends of the floor. At 6-7 he was playing bully ball on the offensive end bulldozing his way through for easy scores. The guy who was covering him was Adam Kemp, a 6-10 center, who is not a bad player, but just couldn’t handle Glover inside. He was way to elusive for him in the post. Glover showed an array of different post moves that I didn’t know he had. He was very effective on the defensive end of the floor picking up 4 blocks and a steal. Glover also looked pretty sold at the free throw line knocking down 9-11 from the stripe. Final stat line 11-19 FG’s, 31 PTS, 7 REB’s, and 4 BLK’s.

Overall I would say that I was pretty impressed with these two players, Albeit playing against Marist. They both looked like they could get drafted, not as high as Doug Gottlieb thinks Machado will get drafted, but definitely in the second round and maybe even the first for Machado. Machado in my opinion has a higher ceiling then Glover because he has a true position and Glover really doesn’t at 6-7. He tore up Marist down low, but there is no way he would be able to do that in the NBA. Machado broke down the defense very easily. Glover also caught a pretty nice ally-oop pass from Machado, in which he threw in a reverse dunk and showed pretty nice athleticism on the play.

Iona has some of the very best guard play in college basketball, and that’s including all mid-major and high-major squads. They literally can throw 5 or 6 good or great guards at you, and then Glover is a high level player in the frontcourt. Great stuff
