I don’t even know if the team ( Hornets ) would do it, but that Internet deal going around that has the 1st and 10th for Howard and then signing D Wil is the perfect off season. I know Howard has said its about winning. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen D Will say its only about that, but if they teamed up with Gordon in NO’s to me they become one of the top 3 teams in the league.

I guess what I’m asking is why wouldn’t all who would be in this deal do it.

Hornets turn one bad season and the Cp3 mess into one of the best teams in the league.

OHoward and D Will get to play with each other plus Gordon and play for a ring every season. Only downside is its NO’s not NY.

Magic gets players that their 30 year old GM can build around.

Its all too perfect not to happen.

Im sure it has crosssed the Hornets mind, or they woudlnt be doing their jobs, but the way Howard has been acting like a baby, and the rumors of DWill being a bad egg in Utah, I will more than understand why they didnt consider this. Also, even IF NO considered dealing the top pick to bring in Howard and were to sign Dwill, the top pick alone is greater than any other deal Orl can get. I would keep the #10 pick and take Turks contract. DWill-Gordon-Turk-#10 PF-Howard is a nice team, w/ Jack-Henry-Aminu off the bench. I am in no means advocating such a deal, just saying the #1 pick alone is all they will need to offer and not both lottery picks.

If the Hornets could get Dwight Howard AND Deron Williams then that would be ideal.  Two superstars plus Eric Gordon would be a nice trio to compete with Miami and OKC.

However, if they can’t get D-Will too then I am not sure how much upside that team has in a loaded western conference.  Probably still behind OKC, LA Lakers, Spurs, and possibly the Clippers and right there with the Grizzlies and Mavs.

If they keep Davis though they get a younger rebounder/shot blocker they can build around.  Plus another good player at 10.  What about Kendall Marshall as the floor leader and pass-first point guard?  Their backcourt would be set with Marshall and Gordon.  Then they could get another good player next year too.

I think the best bet for the Hornets would be to focus on having a contender after the Heat and Thunder peak.  The Heat look fantastic but next year will be the 10th year in the league for the Big Three with Battier and Haslem having even more mileage.  The Thunder are younger, but if they lose Harden or Ibaka, or even if they can’t get another guy then they might be past their peak within 3 or 4 years.  If I were New Orleans then I would focus on having a contender in 5 years, a five year plan built around Davis, Gordon, the 10th pick, and future acquisitions.

If having a young 4 man core is important in the league now (copying the Thunder) then with Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon they would be halfway there.  They have some other young assets in Jarrett Jack, GV, and Belinelli they can either use as rotation guys or use as trade bait.

With Gordon, Davis, the 10th pick and some other nice young talent I like the way things are going in New Orleans.  I think building a contender organically would be easier than trading it all for Dwight Howard and than hoping Deron Williams signs too.

sometimes it’s better to build your own team through the draft.
