JoeWolf1There has been a lot of talk about ideal size, and with the combine a month or so away the debate will begin, yet again, as to how important ideal size is and what is the ever changing definition of ideal size.
This is more of a game than anything. I compiled combine stats of 10 PG prospects from the past ranging from All-Stars to guys who never played a pro game. Where would you rank them on a scale of 1-10. It’s more fun if you just use your initial judgement rather than looking them all up, but it’s all for fun anyways.
PG A. Ht. W/ shoes (6’1.5”) Wt. 208 lbs Wingspan( 6’5”). Max Vert (37”) Bench (7) 3/4 sprint (3.07)
PG B. Ht W/shoes (6’2.5”) Wt. 196 lbs Wingspan(6’8”), Max Vert (40") Bench(10) 3/4sprint (3.05)
PG C. Ht. W/shoes(6′.25”) Wt. 199 lbs Wingspan(6’4.25”) Max Vert(33.5") Bench(6) 3/4spring (3.06)
PG D. Ht. W/Shoes(6’3.5”) Wt. 198 lbs Wingspan(6’7.5”) Max Vert(28.5”) Bench (5) 3/4sprint (3.24)
PG E. Ht.W/shoes( 5’10.75”) Wt. 188lbs Wingspan(6’1.25”) Max Vert(40”) Bench (9) 3/4 sprint (2.92)
PG F. Ht.W/shoes (6’2.25”) Wt. 177lbs Wingspan (6’3”) Max Vert(34") Bench (16) 3/4 spring (3.22)
PG G Ht W/shoes (6’1.5”) Wt. 176lbs Wingspan (6’5”) Max Vert(37”) Bench (7) 3/4 spring (3.25)
PG H. Ht W/shoes (6’4.25”) Wt. 199lbs Wingspan (6’7”) Max Vert(34”) Bench (6) 3/4 sprint (3.24)
PG I. Ht W/shoes (6’3.25”) Wt. 212lbs Wingspan(6’5.25”) Maxt Vert(38”) Bench (14) 3/4 sprint (3.23)
PG J. Ht. W/shoes (6’2.25”) Wt 202 lbs Wingspan (6’6.25”) Max Vert (35”) Bench (15) 3/4 spring (3.25)

Funny that me and Indiana have differing opinions on C and D, I have them at top and he has them at bottom. Guess it’s just me but I hate athletic point guards. I’d rather have someone who is less athletic but is a better passer and can control game tempo.

JoeWolf1Yeah, Thanks for filling it out. I’ll post the answers in a couple hours. I just thought it’d be fun.

IndianaBasketballParticipantInteresting post… I think I have a feeling who some of these guys are…
1. PG B
2. PG I
3. PG J
4. PG H
5. PG A
6. PG G
7. PG E (not a lot of size, but jeez he must be a super dynamic athlete)
8. PG C
9. PG D
10. PG F

IndianaBasketballParticipantLol yea I was just thinking the same thing.
I didn’t like C’s height to wingspan ratio and his vertical was a little weak.
And D was way too unathletic.
I wanted to put F higher due to his size and strength, but he has T-Rex arms.

mosdefParticipantI dont like basing all my "scouting" on size cuz for a PG I need feel but for the sake of the game
B – combine king
A
J
E – small but can jump and is blazing fast. wish he had longer wingspan tho cuz I tend to 6’3 or wider
C
G
H
I
D
F- I dont know who he is but Im going to guess he shoots the three well

Wahoo757ParticipantIf you look at some of the top point guards in the game they’re about 6-3 with shoes (see Derrick Rose, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, and Steve Nash) so a lot of my rankings had to do with them being about 6-2 or 6-3.
1. B
2. I
3. J
4. A
5. H
6. C
7. G
8. E
9. F
10. D (A 28 inch vert are you kidding me?)Can’t wait to see who these mystery players are to prove how little meaning combine numbers have.

JoeWolf1Here are the results. You guys did a pretty good job really, especially putting B 1st and F last….Considering they are Derrick Rose and myself.
A. Jeremy Pargo
B. Derrick Rose
C. Ray Felton
D. Jared Jack
E. Jason Gardner ( former Arizona Wildcat )
F. Me ( I had to find someone a lot worse than everyone else that no one would recognize)
G. Chris Quinn
H. Jrue Holiday
I. Randy Foye
J. Deron Williams
Hope you guys had fun.

sheltwon3ParticipantGood job man. I had you above Jared Jack lol. also Gardener came out at a bad time. He could have been doing what Thomas is doing in Sac town now. People forget you have the guy that was drafted at the end of the draft starting and playing well. He actually improved that team even though they are not a good team now.

akhan786ParticipantI found myself going back and forth between the measurements and your answer list to be amazed at some of the numbers.
Great post.

IndianaBasketballParticipantSorry about the "T-Rex arms" comment man. Judging by the numbers, you’re a pretty damn good athlete though.E being Jason Gardner brought back memories… He was our "hero" around here. He was short, but had a HUGE heart. I went to middle school with him and then two years of high school with him, and can’t even count how many things I learned from that guy.Great post.0 - Posted on: Fri, 04/20/2012 - 4:54pm #662194
marcusfizer21ParticipantLOL, I keep scrolling back and forth just to see who are these guys though I already know who B was before I scrolled down the answers though…
LOL at the T-Rex arms comment but I still think joewolf is a good ball player though..

aamir543ParticipantDamn, if you hadn’t posted the wingspans I’m sure JoeWolf would’ve been in the middle of the pack, you’re a good athlete man.
For some reason I though the Jason Gardner one was Ty Lawson because of the size and speed, it’s interesting how unathletic Jaret Jack is now that we know that a lot of high school track athletes can jump higher, lol, but it’d be interesting to see a guy like Ray Felton’s numbers as well, and other point guards who aren’t jumpers or leapers and see how they’d compare. But I’ve learned over the years that the NBA combine is the most reliable, a couple weeks ago someone posted these numbers that were supposed to be Jeremy Lin’s numbers from a combine specific to seniors, and his numbers were right there with D-Rose’s, and I honestly didn’t trust those numbers, but it is interesting to go back and look at combine numbers, I was making a point for Anthony Davis’ strength not being a huge issue for now and that it’s a fixable one and I remembered how Durant couldn’t get one rep of the weights at the combine, I went back and looked at the numbers and saw that he was the only guy that tried that one and couldn’t do a single rep, and now he’s a top two candidate for MVP, although you could argue that Durant had to play guard his first couple years and was a perimter player, and Davis has to battle with the bigs down low.

JoeWolf1Lol, it’s okay guys, it bugs me too! I had a friend in college who was the same height as me, couldn’t jump as high, but had a 6’8” wingspan and could do all the same dunks I could.
Me and a couple friends at my gym ran a mini combine last year when the results came out. I still can get up and down pretty good for a guy pushing 30. I was a bit surprised too, on how I stacked up, especially with the strength considering I’m a pretty light guy.
I’m glad you had fun. Maybe I’ll do do another one with PF’s or C’s.
